my late grandfather Harry morriss was head of sound effects and indeed radio work shop 1929-1973, he was Delia boss he trained her and the sound effect team, doc who, the white noise all Harrys genues ideas and effects bout time harry gets more cradit in the history of sound effects on radio 7 there an early interveiw of him talking bout his days at the bbc and effects
David and I from Aqua Nebula Oscillator have listened to this track many times during our 'Trip' to Croatia tree years ago... The van.. You should have seen this incredible black and golden '68 Ford Transit ambulance..! invisible now.
Weren't Brian Hodgson and/or Dick Mills involved with this album as well? I know there's a BBC Radiophonic/Dr. Who connection here that extends beyond Ms. Derbyshire.
I'm also pretty sure that you're hearing a very early EMS VCS3 synthesizer on this LP.
Brian and Delia worked together on the project (they'd done stuff outside of the BBC together since creating Unit Delta Plus in '66), but nobody else from the RW was involved. I did ask Mr. Mills about this a while ago, so I'll take it as fact. Peter Zinovieff had been in UDP as well, so I'm sure at least some of the circuits which ended up in the VCS3 would have been available for use....
A fantastic record. Side 2 has seldom been equaled by anyone.
Oof. I've been looking for a pink label copy of this for about 25 years, without success (or resorting to ebay). At least I know what one looks like, now...
love Delia, as always;)
