with folks like him and christopher Eccelston it'll be interesting to explore!

  • LEGEND

  • Bloody brilliant.

  • In Bangkok, I have to walk through somebody's chickenyard in shantytown just to get to work in the morning. I always think of this song. That's what this town is. Bloody Chickentown. "The bloody punks are bloody daft." Indeed.

  • wow.. old manchester view havent seen in ages.

  • Unbelievable. Gives you goose bumps how good it is.

  • chickentown is twinned with turkeytown. please drive carefully.

  • I,m gonna re mix the sit out of this song.......TBA

  • Nothing to do with "Chicken factories" in Manchester, funny idea though especially if you've ever been to the city.

Chicken town is just about a smalltime mentality that some people have in any city.

The video definately goes from Oxford road in Manchester out towards Old Trafford, you can see the water of the docks near the end and Salford in the distance.

  • I should point that out to whoever taught me then. Misplaced information it seems!

  • It's Manchester. The poem (written by John Cooper Clarke) is about Chicken Town (a.k.a. Manchester) where all there used to be were chicken factories. So, case closed: Manchester. Not London. Not New York ;)

  • No it's about Salford - where JCC lived

  • Just to clarify, the poem is about Salford. The video is of Manchester and then Salford seen from a train leaving Oxford Road

  • Salford is in Greater Manchester (although that may be a fault on my part as I tend to refer to Greater Manchester as simply Manchester) :)

  • Yes it is in Gtr Manchester but it is a separate city, certainly NOT Manchester - a very distinct place (its own cathedral, Catholic bishop etc etc etc).

If you disagree I suggest you tour the pubs of Salford and ask the locals - they'll soon 'convince' you

  • Oh mi god! I have been searching for this tune FOR AGES ever since I saw it on the coolest ending EVER on The Sopranos!

  • ME TOO!! haha

  • @cl0ve0il yeah that episode was one of the best. When Phil brings his family to celebrate his dead brother would be 47th birthday. And when he's sitting at the bar with Butchie you know he's serious and done with taking shit from people.

  • crazy fucking song...heard it on the sopranos and had to check it... it sounds like the song would fuck with you if you were high

  • yeah and the two blokes who made this song were very very high !!!

  • It`s in England, check out which side of the road the cars are driving on at the start of the video.

  • Brooklyn Ny it is

  • Its Manchester actually.

  • 100% Oxford Road: No debate

  • the song is from Sopranos! +1

  • Its deff Piccadilly station in Manchester, look closely you can also see the Hacienda Club !!!! Trust me (i'm a doctor).

  • It's Manchester, Piccadily. waited there loads of times.

  • I live in fuckin bloody Cowtown! Slower and dumber.

  • This is Oxford Road station, I know because I caught a train home from there after school for seven years. It's a diesel train leaving platform 3, either to Urmston or Chester. From the viaduct you can see the building that later became the Hacienda, now knocked down. Malazan is right, Chickentown is your chickentown, wherever that is. I've been to Rhode Island, and it's really like that; its also like Leeds or Newark, NJ, or Glasgow or any of the millions of chickentowns.

  • Indeed -- i know that this video was shot somewhere in the UK, but the scenery in this video looks a lot like it could've been taken from the PATH train between Newark and Jersey City. and not just because the song was used in "The Sopranos" (which is set in North Jersey).

  • christ why does it have to be anywhere in particular? - it's clearly meant to be YOUR fukin chickentown, inner city, urban, small-town, rural, coast, mountain or wherever...

  • my chickentown is rhode island - it needs to be wiped off the planet

  • Why bring bloody religion into it!? ;-)

  • thank you

  • It's Manchester Piccadilly.

  • Newcastle is a chickentown when you look out the train window as well.

  • Yeah... this really reminds me of Newcastle when I was growing up .....

  • 'stuck in fukin chickentown' lol!

  • The song is not, I think you'll find, solely about Manchester. It's about, or at least the way I interpreted it, any town that could be classed as a "Chickentown". Manchester is one, but I don't think the poem applies only to there.

  • this is england....

  • Not where I live it bloody isn't...

  • somelodic! Ivebeenhummingittowarselfallday!!

  • BROOKLANDS-----WTON?

  • top man a proper geezer who speaks words we cannot speak with such passion of real life's attitudes this man can .. nice work been a fan now for oooooh shit loads of years

  • John the legend..

ten years in an open neck shirt

    is favourite book

  • or at least the factory that made way for my flat

  • So where is it, I mean which town / city

Always wondered where chicken town is

  • cellarbuoy

It could be bloody Manchester or any bloody town near you ; D

  • woo my flat is on this

  • epic.

  • Love it.

  • coool video, just what I needed at end of working day, JCC is good eh!

  • Nice train ride...

  • JCC = BOUNCY! BOUNCY! BOUNCY!

  • excellent...

  • The original said Fuck instead of Bloody ;-)

  • Someone has reached the "judgement day" feeling. F***ING GREAT!

  • QUALITY!!!!!!

  • someone told me it was "cat steven's" son who chose all the tracks for soprano's, can anyone confirm this theory for me, (whoever it was, had a handle on things for sure!!)

  • No, that would be David Chase.

  • thanks scandalabra i must've dreampt it!!

  • have just seen this guy live not 20 mins ago (citedel st helens)small venue was no more than 3 feet away he finished off with a new version of beesly st (callled beasly boulevard) and the original chicken town, great gig.long live jcc.

  • No, it's definitely coming West out of Oxford road, you can see Whitworth street and the station itself hasn't changed. There seems to be a bit missing inbetween the Hacienda and Castlefiled though, it jumps at least a few hundred yards.

  • Early grime? =)

  • john cooper clarke is like the beat poet from hell, fucking awesome

  • I'm with ya'. ;D

  • Id go for Picadilly Station too. That would be my best guess anyway, though not totally sure.

  • love the sync with the trains---like bach(?)--this stuff is timeless-peace off- large

  • the best song of the sopranos..........probably

  • i think that this man is a lyrical genius

  • Can anyone tell me which train station this video starts at? It looks like Oxford Road, but not sure that'd fit in with the video. Any offers?

  • oxford road, but awhile ago now,

  • thats the ritz and palace thetre it passed as it leaves the station.

  • Yep, that's what I thought. Nice one, thank you sir!

  • Not in my opinion because at 55 seconds you notice the Hacienda nightclub - which is intersection between whitworth street west and oxford st/rd, since the train has travelled westbound for 55 secs and oxford road station is further west than the hacienda, this makes it more likely to be Piccadilly station ( outside platforms ). You will also notice 4 at the beginning this probably indicates further proof of piccadilly outside platforms. Hope this helps :D

  • wrong. it is oxford road, no doubt

  • Why am I dancing in my chair to this!? LOL. Thanks Jim boy for sharing it! John

  • but cool also heard it on the sopranos episdoes aswell

  • lol this song is funny

  • What you on about, i can see r house, look theres me mam...Great stuff

  • heard this on the sopranos the other nite

  • me too ...cool ending

  • WOW.

  • i'm with you mate. it's about the manchester. just glad i don't live there. safe. up the north!!!

  • hey just thinking, didunt jcc get strung out on smack in the 80s

  • All as these dudes are saying is--it looks like were they live.

  • call me stupid but... isnt it about any fukkin town...in the uk

  • Fucking septics, the songs about Manchester not your country

  • whats this new jersey shit about its fuckin manchester

  • Maybe because it was used in an episode of "The Sopranos," which is set in New Jersey?!?

  • (ref)edwood. the buiding was there before it became the hacienda, no???
