I just watched this again after several months and it's as beautiful and poignant as the first time I saw it! I shared it with my sister and asked her to watch it with our Mom. Both were similarly impressed. BRAVO!! ENCORE!
It was well done, but I don't know how much Ellen and Gerald did that would have made Scarlett's relationship such a mess. They were both very good to her so she should have had a wonderful relationship with Rhett. It was really the war and the fact that Scarlett is hanging on to something that didn't exsist.
I think that Scarlett trying to cling to being like her mother rather than being herself created a lot of chaos within her--because, really, she was a lot more like her father. That's something that indirectly affected her relationship with Rhett.
Also, think about how Ellen was the perfect model for repressed, restrained marital relations.
This is fabulous and very well put together. I enjoyed it very much. I am an avid fan of GWTW, and have seen most of the videos on here, and this is easily one of my favorites. Great Job!!
Me too - this just shows that even Hollywood will bend their rules for CASH!!! I was in Rome Italy last year and said to my girlfriend (as a joke) "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" about something she wanted to buy. The store cashier did not speak English - but still said - "Rhett Butler!!!" Amazing!!
Original line was changed to "Frankly my dear, I don't care at all" - becasue sensors would not allow the word "damn" in a movie - they rated it "X" because of one word!! Then a few dollars to buy the sensors and the word "damn" was allowed and the line was changed to "Frankly my dear, I dont give a damn!" it MADE the movie!!
Right you are!! It was the very first time that a line in a movie was associated with that movie. Today it is common place for this to happen - they TRY to get what is now called a "tag line". $5,000 in 1939 was a truck load of money!!
It really was! Silly MPAA. It's now, basically, the most famous line from any movie ever. It's right up with "Luke, I am your father." Even if you haven't seen the movie, you know the line. I'm glad Selznick decided to pay for the line. It completes the movie.
Brillant!

That really is amazing! GWTW is a universal phenomenon, though. And cash gets most anyone anywhere, especially in Hollywood.

Selznick paid $5,000 dollars to get the word into the movie. Really, it's amazing how much society has changed in so many years.
