MIne wud be Brenda Lee 1950, Linda Scott, Sandi Steward, Marcie Blane 1958.(short) Cher black and white 1964 It's you babe, Dana Winner Eurovision, Grace Gall, Mary Hopkins, France Gall (1965-66), Patsy Cline Grand O' Opre (1968) Sinead O'Connor, Kate Nash, Kate Bush, 1969, ABBA 1970, Sissel 1972 my absolute favourite
It's your list but I would have Grace Slick higher as she is incredible, I would include Joan Baez & Mama Cass & at No.1 I would have Judith Durham. It doesnt matter if you are into folk, rock, punk, no one can match Judith's magical voice. My all time favourite female is Deborah Harry I because I fell in love with her but I would still have Judith no.1 & for performance Chrissy Amphlett of the Divinyls...the most incredible female perfomer of all time with the most underated band in history.
@snookermark I've been meaning to do a new list but there's about 30 people involved in it!! 30 sec per artists would make a 15min video!! It includes Mama Cass, Michelle, Sandy Denny, Maddy Prior, Judy Dyble, Françoise Hardy, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell... only to mention a few!!
Thanks for this. I'm a bigger fan of female singers. Some of these hadn't been exposed to me and were pleasurable enough to warrant further listen, if there's enough time. I'm dying, you see. Well, not now, but eventually and life is very short!
My point is thank you fellow female singer fan for this and would you please put Elizabeth Fraser at #1?
@ZappaSauriio Thanks!! Actually my favourite album is their first one, called Paris Combo! And don''t forget to download their live performance, it's too good! At least listen to Moi, Mon Ame Et Ma Conscience, it's on youtube and it's amazing!!
@CookOfTheHouse Thanks for sharing. I like the voice of Julie Delpy. Very soothing. Linda McCartney's voice is catchy. You might want to check out another female singer who is great also. Her name is Charice.
@titafrmcm Thanks!! i've been meaning to update this list for a very long time now but I'm too lazy to do it!! I know about charice! I saw her on glee and thought she had an amazing voice, but I'm not really into mainstream music! Thanks for sharing!!
Leuk om iemand`s smaak te ervaren soms zeg ik Ja en soms: nee -hoor- die- hoort niet in de top 2000! Janis is o.k. Grace ook en Mariska heeft mijn symphatie de rest sucks.
this new stuff doesn't even count as music cause there are computers and synthasizers to make them sound good, but back in the 50's 60's and 70's they showed raw natural talent! :D
@rockpop1998 Lady Gaga? We're talking about REAL artists in here. To hell with this fake generation of so called singers. And i agree with Cookofthehouse, Grace Slick is unsmashable.
I'm not a huge fan of Lady Gaga but she is a quite accomplished performer. I don't like Jazz but she does a live jazzy version of Poker Face for BBC radio show. Pretty impressive.
very nice!! but what about Mama Cass!? what about First Aid Kit? plus there are lots of classic country, rockabilly and oldie singers! but i like your style dude!
Damned right I enjoyed it...two of JA's singers, with props to Signe. BTW, Linda's vocals were always good. She is vastly underrated. She didn't get her gig just because her husband managed the band (on the run). RIP, Linda...RIP, you deserved many more years of life.
That's why I said that I respected your tastes. Even though, I consider Janis in the first place, I partially agree with you about Grace's voice and performance, she was also amazing, but when I saw Linda in the first place, no offence, man, I thought you were joking!!...Thanx for posting anyway :-)
I always thought Grace was a better artist than Janis, don't get me wrong, Janis is amazing, I listen to her tracks each and every day but the way Grace's or Signe's voice makes me feel is something Janis could never achieve... Grace gives me goosebums, maybe you should watch the High Flyin' Bird performance by Jefferson Airplane on Monterey and see what I'm talking about!
Some good, intelligent choices here, enjoyed your selection, thanks for posting but Linda McCartney? Really? Are you sure? Would you think of putting, say Janis Ian or Ella Fitzgerald in the mix? Just a

OK, Linda McC wins by virtue of her devotion to her family and husband, and he clearly reciprocated her efforts.
. But does anybody besides Sir Paul believe that Linda had ANY musical talent?
Not to denigrate her. Clearly she was an accomplished woman. But NOT musically.
