The tear drops have different meanings, you killed someone, you tried to kill someone but was unsuccessful, or someone you cared about was killed. Supposedly depends on how many tear drops there are and whether it's colored in or empty. You'd have to research it further if you were really interested in it, but from the little bit I've read about it, the above information is what I have gathered.
