  • this is so haunting amazing ty for uploading it

  • I've been looking for a video with an english translation of the lyrics. I first saw Samurai Champloo when I was about 16 and I was going through a really hard time in my life.

After reading the lyrics, it makes me think maybe it's significance is in the fact that Mugen has been so consumed by killing that he has missed or forgotten the beauty of life, which he and (we) are reminded of through this song. I don't feel afraid when I hear this.

    Sensational piece of music.

  • this song is amazing !

  • I cry by this song, but i don't remember mugen, i remember what i lost and who i am...

  • Amazing!!

  • What kind of genre would this be?

  • @mistcom its wonderfull a genre?

  • so beautiful...

  • ...Life is Pain, conflict & the struggle to overcome the two & ascend into some place better. The greats say the beauty of a fire only shows in the ashes, but I feel thats only a parabolic rationalization for unjust anguish.Pain breeds Hate,Hate breeds War & War brings power to the winning side.In the end only the strongest Wills to Power can survive this hell-this condition.

That is the Human Condition, the perpetual cycle of life through struggle & death through weakness.Thats all there is...

  • @PureTeenageIgnorance Perhaps the best thing I've ever heard.

  • @PureTeenageIgnorance Hhmmm... dunno if I should be doing(philosophical discussions on youtube comments... ungh masochistic is an understatement), but I'll try to keep it short and simple. You are born down by the oppressive weight of the yoke of Karma. The Human Condition is an illusion that must be dispelled, not all at once, but by a slow life-long pursuit of Understanding. Responsibility is not something given but something attained and maintained. Much Love and respect.

  • @braxalus I'm glad I'm not alone in my oppinion:)

  • this is too dope not to remix

  • could someone explain what she is sayin

  • @WordTheChill read description... =)

  • @veddoo84 Thanks dog um what do u think the whole thing means though i know she is happy about having a place to live but she doesnt have enough for her loved ones..But u what do u think? I think theres more to it

  • @WordTheChill I believe like any good song it should resemble something about urself. the most important is i guess what the song means to you. As for me i believe that even though you are proud of what you have done and are, you still consider what other think.

  • @veddoo84 sad the samurai is dead and gone =( to protect and serve until they got betrayed and killed by the bakufu

  • @WordTheChill dont know kanka, just feel it

  • probably one of the most intense anime moments ever

  • This song is really good I love her voice its so wow. I listened to this whith my eyes closed while leaning on a pillow and all these thoughts came to me all the stuff i wish could happen. The song became part of that and just made it seem like it was possible, mabey it was her voice but I can't stop listening to it now.

  • @TheVloggingGaijin: My apologies, I did not mean any disrespect here. Just had a rough day and didn't want to take crap from anyone. But that is no excuse for my behavior and rude comment. I apologize to DnbDubjunkie, if you have anything against me I will not hold any grudges against you.

  • @21KidDeath Now that's better;)

  • @DnbDubJunkie, is that so? Funny if we actually crossed paths in this life time. I wonder if you'll have the guts to say that to me face to face?! Oh probably not what with my fist shoved down your throat. Don't hide behind the media and seek me out so we can settle this straight up. Or do you prefer to continue on with 2 cents worth of witty comments?

  • @21KidDeath and @DnbDubjunkie Could you guys go to an other place with this, I think I speak for most if I'm saying everyone's here for the music, not to start fights.

    Feel the love bitchesXD

  • trembling..

  • thank you!!!!!

  • Memories of hardship and struggles being tossed at you from every damn corner. In some way I know how Mugen feels.. Growing up with nothing given to you and knowing a life of only taking things. Happiness comes and then quickly goes, leaving you with your best friend despair. Funny world we live in...

  • @21KidDeath And the winner for the year's generic comment goes to you!!!

  • This makes me think of all the ways I have wronged people and all the ways I have also been wronged..Like some kind of karma..This song makes me think about karma...

  • This song picks you up and throws you around seemingly without ever having left your seat...

  • Biogaranemedicamane genericasos

  • Meugoh la bidoche

  • @hashibamiYT

this is very touchingly my freind////

  • @hashibamiYT

    its very touchful my freind/

  • @hashibamiYT

It's wonderful and incredible how you don't have to know the lyrics or even speak the language to understand the message of this song, the pain she suffers and the feelings she is trying to express. I believe music is one of the most natural, powerful and universal things in the humanity's history. It's known to literally every culture of the world and has the ability to unite people from all over the world beyond races, languages, cultures and religions.

  • @hashibamiYT

Are you still listening to it?

I understand well what you're trying to say by "melt". I have just discovered this song a few days ago but I get chills and goosebumps and often cry when I hear it, no matter how many times i listen to it at once. I also get the feeling of "melting" to it.

  • @hashibamiYT

do you know the name of the song in Episode 17? i like the melody in the beginning.. i'm looking for it and unable to find it

    it's in episode 17 6.45 min.

  • Is it just me or does it sound like the elegy of a mourning mother?

    So powerful...

  • find it that you erase all negativity from your life. Accept your mistakes when you make them. Take them in and do better next time. There is so much beauty in this world. Listen to this song. How can you not believe that after listening to this? It literally takes my breathe away. Someday we will all find that beauty. Believe in it.

Embrace yourself and let go of pain. You will be happy.

  • i love the start ... =)

  • Is there a automatic repeat function in youtube?

I want to play a game and listen to this song in the background

  • @stylezp23

Add the word "repeat" after the word youtube in the url...

It'll take you to a website that will play the youtube video over and over again.

  • dont know what she is saying but i do know dat its beautiful

  • its a japanese folk song or Ryukyuan Music.

  • Everything that is BEAUTFUL in this world is in this song!

  • what is the genre of this song. I'm trying to find more like this but I can't seem to find the genre that will make the search easier.

  • it sounds sad but isnt it about building a house?

  • @nickbg2007 The house building part is metaphorical, it is a reference to teamwork to build something better, the next several verses follow a similar pattern of metaphors for virtues

  • This song is so beautifull there are really no words to express the emotions this song gives me its just one of those songs i listen to over and over <3

  • This song deserves props Ikue Asazaki has a very saddening voice u can almost feel pain from her words......

  • Mugen realising his life has been one of pain and inflicting pain upon others.

Trying to break the spiral and failing.

One of the best scenes ever animated. So hard...

  • This song made me cry. It was perfect for that scene. I honestly thought Mugen was going to die.

  • Building a house- Teamwork

Giving kimono to others- Self sacrifice (unselfish)

    Clouds hiding the moon- Hope.

Lot more to the song than what aapeals to the eye and ears.

  • @Sabie0

It's so Japanese. I don't mean to offend anyone. I just mean by that that teamwork, self-sacrifice and hope are things commoly cultivated in traditional Japanese culture.

Beautiful song, btw. Gotta watch this anime.

  • @regerabit you.will..love.....itttttttttt

  • #EPICCCCCCCCCCCC #ripsamuraichamploo

  • i listen to this song when doing my art. i listen to it when i become selfcentered and have to remind my self of the other pain in the world. i have been through so much and no matter how much time comes imbetween me and thoses experiences, this song never fails to bring them right back to the surface.

  • this song is beatiful yet it seems to revive the awful the things that i have experinced yet this song brings a sense of deja vu when i hear it... it makes me cry everytime i hear it. but i really love this song

  • Arayashikiku no dei

    Harasaku baku no dei

I'm in the same moment of my life right now : ).

    ありがとうございますAsazakiさん

  • awesome anime, awesome soundtrack.....awesome!

  • This song really isnt as depressing as it sounds so i think its better that the song is left unsubbed ^^;

    look up the english translation

it really ruined the overall feel of the song for me when i read the lyrics since i interpreted the song a different way in my head

but i still listen to it since i find it relaxing

  • me in my room lights out depression mindfucking me. ipod this song

  • I usually hate that kind of singing, just sounds so weird and annoying. But somehow I like this song, it's so sad and melancholic and I like that.

  • Edit: by request i've added the lyrics in the desc. with subs... enjoy...

  • I want this played at my funeral, and I'm not even japanese.

  • very touching

  • Do anyone knows what's the name of this type of singing?

I love it so much! And this song is so painfully beautiful, has got all the depths of melancholy.

  • @Sangsahwa1 think its Enka

  • I'm sure that no one here can understand any word of what she's singing but this song make us think about alot of things uh?

  • @runnyfat cool story bro

  • i'm in love with the anime and this song :D

  • what is this style of music called?

  • @sweetvaronica enka

  • words can not express wht im feelin right now

  • I get so emotional everytime i hear this song. it's so beautiful. i just wanna get up and sway with it...makes me feel like crying...

  • This reminds me of bishie Mugen every time I listen to it. <33

  • this song remainds me of a time when i was homeless. thank God thats over.

  • ive been listenin to this songs for weeks n every time i hear it its like im listening to it for the first time, it moves me to tears every time, so beautiful

  • I cry every time.

    :D

  • Such a magical song.. Amazing .. truly amazing.

  • ptm k gran cancion demasiado buena

  • no es por nada pero puede sonar cursi , pero esta cancion me hace salir lagrimas, es muy bonita y la interpretacion del piano es brutal.

  • is there a dubstep version of this?

  • @TippmanFaith

That would be awesome... I am searching for it now

  • @sorcress18 cool, let me know if you find it!

  • @TippmanFaith

There isn't one =A=..... -gasp- -dies- Doesn't mean we cannot request one! :D

  • If you dislike this please find a new world where you can rule by yourself, seriously..

  • @jrydland that is a very arrogant and one sided thing to say

  • @Colton5 Thank you for telling me the obvious. I understand that it is, but then again you show no respect to this old lady singing her heart out by disliking this, most people here like both anime and song - And I really hope it's not just trolls watching the vid like you, have a great day!

  • @jrydland jumping to conclusions. Who said I didn't like the song? Who said I clicked the dislike button? How am I a mythological creature? Who raised you to be such a liberal accuser? You need help kid

  • @Colton5 Kid? I'm 22, you? I was sarcastic, you are such a troll on a video of such a beautiful thing, I can't even understand why a pathetic person like you have to be such a troll exactly here?! Please untroll yourself.

  • Omg I get shivers drom every note she sings :( I Lovee this song so much and I have to cry always when I listen to it :(

  • dislikes wtf?

  • means~

find a new place and built a new house.

make straws straight and thatch a roof.

at the sliced stone wall, lets celebrate golden house that was built by 100 carpenters.

august is coming, have a nothing to ware. brothers i want to dress up. would you give one of your sleeves?

theres only one cloth. i will ware vines that i took from deep in the mountains. and want to make loved one ware it.

the full moon shine and light up sacredly. hide in the cloud when my loved one come to the gate.

  • If a song moves you to tears even though you don't understand the language then this is a damn good song made of EPICNESS. I am trying to hold back the tears as i type this. Ahhhh so beautiful. I pray that this woman has a long life. Her voice is beautiful.

  • this song makes these pictures seem so sad. T_T

  • Thumbs up if you have cried listening to this!!!!

  • fun fact, the singer Ikue Asazaki is from the Ryukyu Islands, no joke

  • @uzipops you could say irony at its best, those people really do suffer and this song does show their torment.

  • @uzipops She's from Kagoshima actually.

  • Demasiado Anal, esta melodía que te hace pensar y reflexionar cosas de la vida !

This is just F*cking amazing, the melody makes you think about life situations ...

  • Mugen is Ryukyuan.

"Champloo" in Ryukyu-Okinawan Language.("Samurai" in standard Japanese Language.) Champloo means "Mix".

    Obokuri-Eeumi are Ryukyu-Amamian folk songs, "Shima-uta"

(Shima-uta is not Ryukyu-Okinawan folk songs.)

    "Obokuri" in old Ryukyu-Amamian Language.

    Obokuri means "Thank you".

    watch?v=Zlnr_msOiFg

  • yeah look uo her name shes from the Ryukyuan islands

  • makes me feel alive

  • Iv'e been looking for this song forever!!

    I can't believe I finally found it!!

  • In Indonesian TV news this song was played when showing the devastating images of destruction on 11 March 2011 Sendai Japan Tsunami. The song is really strong emotionally..., curiously really similar to the native Indonesian traditional way of sing, especially dayak tribe of Borneo.. It's really sad and bring tears to my eyes... I hope Japanese people to be strong and find courage in this time of hardship..., minna san... shikarishite...

  • i just love this song ^^

  • Remember when i first heard this on Samurai Champloo, must have replayed it at least 20 times. Reminds me of the same style the blind girls sings and the way that the vocals are coarse yet not off key reminds me of the song in operation flashpoint dragon rising. If this is a specific style of music I'd like to hear the name so I could research more into it.

  • i find it interesting that this played when mugen was dying on the Ryukyu island and this song is a traditional Ryukyuan song.

  • @korinstower202 Mugen is also speculateed to be from ryukyu himself... i think he actually says it too.

  • @korinstower202 yeah he grew up there and learned his technique

  • @korinstower202 so this is like a legit ryukyuan song?

  • I love this song. =]]]]]]

  • Id be dedicated to any game if this was its main theme song.

  • Nice song to die to

  • @rws34real Nice song to LIVE for.

  • @Kizzy1555 Nice song for either.

  • I love this song alot, and even the anime Samurai Champloo is one of the best anime ever i mean its a masterpiece, i love it 5/5 on the Video ^^

  • This is possibly the only song I've heard that made me bust out in tears... and I don't cry. This song can pull out so many emotions that people lock up. This is simply breathtaking, a masterpiece if you will.

  • nice soothing song keeps me relaxed

  • this take me beyond the horizon into the dawning sun, listening to it makes me fly into the sunset

  • i hate that this is not on the soundtrack of samurai champloo. even that its 4 cds its not included and its a song i remember very well and always will

  • Ikue puts such emotion into her singing....its beyond measure.....one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard....

  • Wow, I remember this song back then when I've watch Samurai Champloo and this is just so beautiful but so sorrow. ;__; I feel like crying in sorrow for her and this song makes me just want to let my tears release from my eyes. Her voice is just so beautiful and the piano. Thanks for the upload.

  • I first heard this song on episode 14 of samurai champloo. It nearly made me cry. It's a beautiful song.

  • So, can the 3 people who disliked this video explain themselves?

  • @Hellectika 3 people are faggots that listen to lil wayne and waka flaka

  • orgasm to my ears man her voice is hauntingly beautiful

  • I think about the leaves falling down in autum..

    very beautiful

  • makes me cry :(((((((((((

  • Einfach wunderschön...

  • i have had goosebumps before but i think this is the first time i actually got a lump in my throat, maybe it's because of personal life experience but i believe that anyone can relate to this song and i swear i don't understand what she is saying but it doesn't matter because i understand... what she's saying. Might not make sense but it doesn't matter, this is music that touches the soul and not the mind and what else was it originally intended to do other than that?

  • @SoSunnyV i know what you mean dude i feel the same way

  • @SoSunnyV you understand the feeling that it emits.... but you don't understand the reasons it came to be..... the hardships.. or anything else..

  • @jay1jayf People say that music is universal, no matter what language, it can be shared by anyone, anywhere. everyone feels hardship, everyone has problems that they must face to live the life they do. I don't understand the point of your comment, it seems as though your depreciating the experience I had with this song, but i assure you that i experienced as much as anyone else.

  • @SoSunnyV I am not trying to depreciate your experience..... i am talking about how you don't understand the hardships you went through to fell that way..... it is a sympathy and empathy kinda issue.... do you know what i mean? if you don't then forget because i can't express myself in this..

  • @jay1jayf i meant her hardships....... her experience..... my bad..

  • @SoSunnyV excellent comment

  • Dude. This is my favorite song.

  • This is such a beautiful song but it makes me wanna cry makes me think about the sad times in life and what other people go through

  • its such a beautiful song.

  • Watching the episode that has this song in it right now and had to find it IMMEDIATELY oh my gosh is this beautiful.
