I have been in Japan many times. I did not have this problem at all. Maybe she did something wrong that japanese did not like it. Just like in France... Some French people do not like the way Americans behaive in France (I am not French, but I know it through my French friends). In America is worst. Even though I am polite and try to be nice to Americans, some(not all) mistreat me. Even I feel uncomfortable to order food bucause I have a heavy accent, and do not get a quality service.

My daughter is now 12 years old and she loves your videos. I home school her and the main question I have (and I'm sure you may have addressed this) is what is the best curriculum I could use to teach her Japanese? The way she is going I'm pretty sure that she will want to do the exchange student thing and I know she would want to at least get by. The problem I run into is that I don't know Japanese, so we would probably be learning together.
@rmcglothlen I'm actually going to be starting a new channel at the beginning of 2012 all about tips on how to study Japanese. I won't be actually teaching Japanese, but rather how to be the best student you can be when learning it. I hope this helps!

@rmcglothlen Japanese is a really easy language despite popular belief, I would suggest using TextFugu and Tae Kim's blog for grammar as they are really great resources for everything but vocabulary. After you've gotten the basics down (Learned Hiragana and Katakana) I would suggest Skritter for learning all the words and Jisho for a good Japanese to English dictionary. Streamingthe & Asahi are great for TV Channels, Radio, and Newspaper, Lang-8 for electronic penpal (Practice).
I am an Asian American guy currently living in France (in a very small homogenous white town). They gawk at me too and making Chinese sounds like ching chong and ping pong. No one sees an Asian man as a threat than a some panzy French man.

You're confusing American states with territories. Puerto Rrico isn't a state of the United States but it is a territory of the United States. The same also applies to the US Virgin Islands and Guam. Under American law, your friend is an American citizen.

My daughter is now 12 years old and she loves your videos. I home school her and the main question I have (and I'm sure you may have addressed this) is what is the best curriculum I could use to teach her Japanese? The way she is going I'm pretty sure that she will want to do the exchange student thing and I know she would want to at least get by. The problem I run into is that I don't know Japanese, so we would probably be learning together.

@rmcglothlen Japanese is a really easy language despite popular belief, I would suggest using TextFugu and Tae Kim's blog for grammar as they are really great resources for everything but vocabulary. After you've gotten the basics down (Learned Hiragana and Katakana) I would suggest Skritter for learning all the words and Jisho for a good Japanese to English dictionary. Streamingthe & Asahi are great for TV Channels, Radio, and Newspaper, Lang-8 for electronic penpal (Practice).

I am an Asian American guy currently living in France (in a very small homogenous white town). They gawk at me too and making Chinese sounds like ching chong and ping pong. No one sees an Asian man as a threat than a some panzy French man.
