I have a 96 that weighs less than 2,000lbs. It would eat an S2000 alive on a mountain pass, especially with a turbo or 2.0L VVT engine swap. S2K's are overpriced, but extremely potent when gutted and boosted as well.
nice car but why do friggin road test fccukkers treat the test cars with no respect. is that how they would treat their own car bought with their own money. the knob tester just "punched" the climate control knob with his finger, does he think car manufacturers make these plastic knobs to be indestructible? what a knob
@snazari1994 dude- there retarded....u go for one of those if u can't afford a real sports car like a bmw z4 or just something thats not cheaply made like honda- hard plastic!! honda quality..
@Wildman2291 Visit Miata.net to see some of the other expensive rides a lot of Miata owners have; these cars are about driving agility and simplicity—not being cheap.
@cb7pwn When the car is under warranty a lot of manufacturer are voiding their warranties because of aftermarket parts being installed incorrectly that is why they offer these as options. This is if you have no clue what you are doing of course.
@soyntgo4it ya well no shit your not supposed to put after market part on a lease or under warranty vehicle.. im just saying that factory options are absurdly priced
@solarlightning Even with its dinky inline-4, the Miata is the best-selling roadster in history, with almost 1 million models sold. If that doesn't make it a "big hit," then I don't know what kind of success you had in mind.
The fourth generation (2013) will adopt a SkyActiv chassis, engine and gearbox. It will lose weight (supposed curb weight of 2000 lbs) and be more efficient. As a result, it's power-to-weight ratio will improve, despite an unchanged power output.
@marshknute thats accually impressive i never knew that but i live in Cali LA and i barely see these..but keep in mind a roadster is defined as a 2 seater which means most of everything else is wiped out..but if you look at their sales lately they have been horrible so reducing weight will help but adding a turbo variant will help drastically
@solarlightning Part of the fun of a Miata is customizing it yourself. I have been to many clubsport events with the New Jersey Porsche Club. The most common non-Porsche raced on the track is the Miata. Nearly all of them have been lightened, supercharged or turbocharged. The engine bay was originally designed to accommodate a V6, and many Miata owners have performed engine swaps. The Monster Miata is a popular example which switches the 4-cylinder with a Ford Mustang V8.
@marshknute never knew that thats what i learned today lol..yea the engine bay really looks like it can take a v6 but why not just also put a v6 variant on it?
@solarlightning Mazda originally intended to offer both a 4 and 6 cylinder engine in the Miata. The 4-cylinder was already developed, and went on sale first, with the V6 variant planned for production a few years later for the refreshed models. Mazda was overwhelmed with customers, and decided not to release the V6 variant, and instead revise the existing 4-cylinder (bored out from 1.6 liters to 1.8 liters in 1994). The tiny 4-cylinder ultimately became the Miata's defining characteristic.
@marshknute i see..are you like a miata owner and enthusiast and i personaly(we all have our own opinions) would never pay 30k for a miata but i would buy a used 370z for that money
@solarlightning I own a 95' Miata. I agree with you on price, though. 33K is way too much to spend on a Miata (especially since I only spend 6K on mine!). For 33K, I would buy an early 90's Acura NSX or a fully-restored original Mini Cooper.
@marshknute Not everyone want an old car like that though and yea a miata doesnt need heated leather seat blah blah blah its a miata i think is should be barebone...but i would get a one year old 370z but for a old car i would get a 98 supra
On the other hand s2ks are way more respectable than any miata n way sexyier , f20s r bullet proof id go s2k over miata any day that.

50/50 weight ratio. Nuff said. Bmw z4 and honda s2000 ain't got shit on a miata. Single reason why miata is the most raced car worldwide.

Keyless entry isn't standard? What the hell. It's 2012. I'm always amazed when car makers leave things like that out and make you pay extra.
