I doubt someone came to this song without seeing the movie. But what is so unique to it is that organ keyboard, that juvenile choir and that constant desperate 'cry little sister'...
This is the "Cave Club Remix" (or is it the Mashup?). It's on G Tom Mac's "Thou Shalt Not" LP which i found online a few years ago. Pretty solid album. It Does have a few versions of "Cry Little Sister" including the original, but several of the other original songs hold up well too. Hard to deny it wasn't an effort to cash in on his one monster-huge-mega-goth-song, but when you have a legendary song under your belt, i say use it. he hasn't overcooked it either (vox still best in original).
it was a fucking awsome song and it changed my life. but i really cant stand what he did to it after it was a big success. trying to make it a hip teenagey popy shitty crappy song and completely taking away the magic from it all
Hi, G! I'm 45 and first heard this song when the movie came out. So long ago. It has touched me like no other. Thank you for writing it! It's always fresh, always new. One could say it's just been written, and it will stay like this forever ..IMMORTAL! And YOU, my friend, have surely been immortalized along with it. Here's to you!
I have the words " Cry Little Sister" tattooed on my wrist. I first heard this song when I was 13 so seven years ago, when my sister and I were going through a hard time, and I had to be her protector. Thank you for putting into words the love and pain I have gone through protecting that little girl.
This song always reminds me of my older brother who commited suicide when I was a child. The situation and lyrics are very similar.Everytime I hear"unchain me sister, come to your brother" it sparks the idea of how much I would like to go back in time and save him from himself.I wish I could hug him and tell him he is loved and to be strong.Ironically,I cry when I hear this song. But I listen anyway because it keeps the memory of him alive,in my heart.Thank you for helping me keep him alive mac!
WOW...Your pretty New remix/ of CRY LITTLE SISTER- CLUB CAVE MIX...Awesome, legend, immortal and will live forever....your main song in general. Love All! XO*Christopher : )
This song has been a favourite of mine for over 20 years. I have no idea why anyone thought The Sisters Of Mercy did it - you don't sound even vaguely like Andrew Eldritch.
Question for you - one of my favourite bands, Tangerine Dream, recently covered this song. Do you like what they did with it?
Do you think your song has been remade so many times out of respect for your work or simply bands/artists trying to cash in on the success of this lasting song?
Excellent Song! This is my favorite song of all time, remembering this from 23 years ago when I watched The Lost Boys when I was 4 years old. I'm actually using this song in one of my videos. This is one of them song's that cant really be explained by words from my point of view, perfect tone, perfect pitch, perfect words..... just perfect! I listen to this from time to time because it reminds me of the past when I was a little child, brings back a lot of old memories :)
I just discovered tonight ALL the different covers and versions of this song on the internet. Your updated version is my favorite. Funny, I remember watching it on the DVD features and I didn't get the same feeling or impression watching it that way as watching it on YouTube. I guess it was the psychological framing, like listening to your friends cassette tape as opposed to listening to it on the radio? Nevertheless, this is something to be really proud of, G Tom Mac. Carfax Abbey's my 2nd fav.
When I first heard this song, i had to know who did it so i looked it up and got so many different awsners. I listened to every single band's songs but they didnt sound like they matched up so eventually i found you and i was like "Oh yeah thats definatly him" Your the best!
i have loved it since it came out on the soundtrack when i was 8 i love it as much as i do the the end by the doors it is a legend that will never be forgotten. The original is the best you can almost feel the death lost boys lived in the music and your voice is a force on its own you are an inspiration sir love marie xxx
I was looking for top vampire movies to watch when I came by "the lost boys". When I heard this song I was amazed....great song, cannot believe I haven't heard it before.
Saw the Lost Boys on VH1 last night. Hadn't seen it since the early 90's when I was a young teen. When I heard the chorus "thou shall not fall..." after all these years, a chill went down my spine and a wave of nostalgia set in! Glad I could finally track this song down. GTomMac you are a genius! Even though I hadn't heard this song in almost 20 years I would still hear it in my mind from time to time. This tune is one of the reasons I became a musician. Thanks!
when i hear this song i dont hear a movie i hear a simpler time in life and many more good memory's but time in my life was the 90s and this song to me defines the 90s to me
The Lost Boys is one of my favorite films ever but given the choice between deprived of that film or your song I would sadly have to let the film go. Cry Little Sister means more to me than I can say. Thank you very much for creating it.
This song is like an overdose of nostalgia for me. My mind just drifts backwards when I hear it. I can't even remember when I first heard it, I was that young. But it was through watching The Lost Boys. And the song and the film just go hand-in-hand. I hear the song, I think of the film. I watch the film, I think of (and hear) the song. I don't think any song has ever stuck with me quite like this one, and I don't know why. I just like what it makes me feel.
This song has affected my life in a good way which got me interested in vampire movies also vampires itself and meeting lovely new people who are interested in the same thing, its a brill song to listen to one of my all time favourites next to pretty green eyes which i have seen the two remixed together at one point briliantly done. I discovered your song a few years back and i tell you its legendary song im proud and happy you made it, will be played at my wedding in years to come.
This song is badass! It reminds me of my childhood. I believe this song helped give a certain eerie feel to the legendary movie. I am a novice when it comes to guitar and music. Could you tell me what the chords are and the tuning on the guitar if it isn't standard? Thanks
GENIUS..but there are truly no words that can do this song justice. The movie was amazing but the song added is what I feel truly made the movie phenomenal. I played the song for my son when he was born, as a sort of a lullaby, he is almost 3 now and he still recognizes the tune. So the lyrics have a deeper meaning to me than just a movie score.
I wish you the absolute best in your future, not that you need it as I am sure everything you touch turns to gold!
When i first saw this movie, this song literally gave me chills, in a good way! I have watched the movie at least 5 times since then, and it is my favorite vampire movie of all time. That has a lot to do with this song. Thank you Mr. Mac, your song is truly a masterpiece!
G Tom Mac - You are A GENIUS to produce a song that stands the test of time. Kick as Lyrics and Riff . Hommage to the original and in another 20 years hommage to the remix. Do you guys plan to do a live gig again?
This song is truly a classic in it's own right. Although synonymous with The Lost Boys, it stands alone as it's own entity. From the creepy and melodic tones to the beautifully written lyrics, Cry Little Sister moves you in ways most songs from that decade fail to do.
After hearing the song in the film, you really can't imagine a greater theme song. Such a wonderful and artistic piece of music. The great thing is, it was written from the script. That's amazing.
I've listened to this song over so many years now and I never tire of hearing it. The combination of reminiscing over the The Lost Boys film and hearing this song makes it a really personal experience when hearing it. Such an inspiring song when feeling either happy or sad and personally the greatest song to have ever blessed my ears. Gerard, without sounding too desperate (pleeease!!!) could you release the original instrumental as used in The Lost Boys films?
This song is amazing, I would have loved it without the movie..does anyone know the other song near the beginning when theres a scene and it's saying thou shall not fall or something, its not this song, but a different one..?
the man on the video is right about people not seeing the lost boys and finding this song... awesome tune and now i wanna see that film :) these powerful vocals make the original song (and remixes) better than the covers although if im bein honest, i like em all lol
I 1st saw the movie while in college in '87, and the soundtrack was so perfect, so mood setting that I think without it the movie wouldn't have been quite as good. I hate to say it being a loyal "Lost" fan, but the ONLY good thing about the so-called sequel was G Tom Mac's new twist on his song. Neither version will ever be dated, and thanks to his True Blood inspried bluesy version he will attract an even broader range of fans. Trust me, 'Blind boys don't lie,' and neither do I. ~ Trace :-)=
i was born the year that The Lost boys came out. The song you wrote has helped me through my tough times and also made me happy in so many ways that one can not describe Hopefully you have another song coming out that will even put Cry Little Sister to shame. Peace.
for some reason i always thought aiden was the orginal singer of cry little sister..
its my favorite song you should come to eastern ky expo and sing there is alot i mean alot of people that like your music....any ways love the song comment or message back
@gtommac - I Love dancing to this song. been dancing to it for over 7 years! Thank you for making such a heartfelt song. This song touches on some very personal, human, deep emotions. This song is very sensual, you can feel the sense of urgency as he calls out to 'little sister'. Unfortunately some interpret this song in a not-so-positive light.. but i dont think they understand how 'sister' can refer to anyone whom you love who is close to you.. someone who is kin. You are a true artist.
Hey. I love your song. I was just wondering the meaning behind it. I thought this video would discuss it, and nothing official can be found in google. So, maybe you could shed some light on this?
i was only 3 when this came out, I remember hearing the remix in early 00's and wow, so tracked down the original and its one if not the best songs i've ever heard. thank you x
It's crazy alright! all one has to do is look on the credits of the movie soundtrack to see my name etc..but that might be too much for one to do! lol. Any way it's sights like yours that tell the truth.

Musical genius. Perfect for this classic movie. Just like (and some of you may laugh at the comparison) David Bowie doing the music for Labrynth. Perfect.
This was such a powerful song - and timeless! I remember listening to it when it came out and now even my kids like it and thought it was a brand new song! I love the remix - very rare for me :o) Thank you!!
thank you G Tom Mac :)

As far as a theme song for a movie, this is like the theme for Terminator 2. It is timeless and will never get old.

Is it just me or does his new version of Cry Little Sister sound like something off the old "Pretty Hate Machine" album from Nine Inch Nails?

This was such a powerful song - and timeless! I remember listening to it when it came out and now even my kids like it and thought it was a brand new song! I love the remix - very rare for me :o) Thank you!!
