You are going to slim down in no time, if you keep up with the diet like that. Nice work, cooking rice on Trox and canteen cup. I know it is not easy.
"Just a good ole boy, never meanin' no harm..." I wish you were my neighbor dude, a good redneck is one valuable friend! And your vid is good for a cooking impaired person like myself. Subscribed
Cool! I like the idea of carrying the rice in a nalgene bottle. I'd probably take one of my 32 ounce ones for long trips. I usually have one for water and one for penny stove fuel. Anyway, where did you get the squishy bowl? I have seen them in a couple videos and was thinking about buying one. Good video, man.
hows that oasis canteen holding up? i bought a few to use with my canteen cups but they seem fragile, at least compared to regular nalgenes? whats your take on them?
if you put yor canteen back wards on the stove/stand so it dosent fit together snug but theres a gap at each side. it will make your thing boil faster.
I think it's something in the design of those canteen cups or something but i could never get mine really, really clean. i even had to buy the army a new one once cause they wouldn't take mine back.."too dirty". Good luck cleaning it. Keep the vids coming.
I like the video and really like the shirt. Always looking for new trail food. I use the trioxane bars, and love them. I used part of an really old army surplus circa 80's today to show my son we could start a fire from scratch in a foot of snow and with sleet and freezing rain coming down in a pretty strong wind. It worked great. They may not be for the guys like the period stuff but if used right they are a sure fire right now. If its live or die I want my match safe and trioxane. Great vid.
That looks like a real good setup there. What were those tab things for fire. "Pyroxene" or somthing - I couldn't hear you right. I have never seen those before. I want to buy a lot of them. They would go great with my other stuff. They better be legal in CA. There are just too many restrictions here. At least I grew up in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, so it wasn't like having to live around all those city people. I wish I knew a better place to move to. I was kind of thinking Montana.
They are Trioxxane Fuel Bars and I am sure they are legal in CA. If you go to a local Army Surplus store they probably have them there. If you can buy Wetfire, Esbit, and Hexamine tablets you can buy this for sure.
LOL, I had this for dinner just the other night! Only differance was the cookset that was used (Swede milsurp with the trangia stove). Give spaghetti a try, break the noodles in half for easier carry and cooking, packet of sauce mix and cut up some summer sausage or whatever else you want to use in it. Good stuff
I think that the canteen stove directs the heat better to the bottom of the canteen cup and I have used 3 triox bars before without the lid on before I got a boil going so the lid definitely makes a difference for sure.
I really like the canteen cook sets and seeing people demonstrate different gear and stuff. Could you tell me what that fuel packet was,, I didn't catch the name?
Good eats my man. You can also add beans. You can throw black eye peas (dry) into blender and chop them up a little. Just a few pulses then add that to your rice. The peas have the protein in them. And cooks quicker with the rice. You might need to add a little more water.
He looks like he has no problem eating LOTS of rice & gravy....lol

Instant gravy? Sounds good, I'll have to try that. I've been using bullion in my rice but gravy sounds better.
Great video, thank you.

if you set you cup opposite the stove it will not 'stick' to the cup.

Question, I noticed that you used the cutting edge of your knife to strike the sparks to start the fire. What does that do to the knife edge?
I'll have to try that recipe.
stickman409 1 year ago
@stickman409 It will dull the crap out of your knife lol

Just curious, I've used my canteen cup to boil coffee, and the sides are charred black. It doesn't affect the function, but how do you clean yours?
