  • he shouldve tuned

  • I would make love to this song. no, I don't mean to a person while listening to ths, I mean literally TO this song

  • That is simply Jack free-style jamming. He is a prodigy!

  • improvisation, Jack do it alot

  • Even when he's making it up as he goes along, Jack White kicks ass. You have to give credit to Meg, too, for knowing exactly what to do and when, even though the song's being made up as they go along.

  • i HATE the camera work in this!!! it looks like a cheap movie!

  • definitely sounds like an improvised jam

  • The "string talk" is killer!

  • Goodbye Babylon by the Black Keys, sounds pretty similar at the beginning at least.

  • Smokestack lighning yo

  • Smokestack lighning yo

  • This video is the vid that got me into the blck keys..... One of you guys said it sounded a lot like Goodbye Babylon and i looked it up and fell in love with them.... Thanks guys!!!

  • @Timeconsumer9 black keys kick ass as well as the stripes...everyone always says one is better thsn the other which is bull

  • @TrademarkedBand yeah exactly man! they both make amazing noise with just two ppl!! if im in a real bluesy mood then id prefer the black keys but if im in a more heavy punk blues then the white stripes is the way to go,

  • what videos is the footage from?

  • very similar to goodbye babylon but a tad different

  • the lonely soul demo

  • hmmm the riff sounds so familar

  • My band has played concerts and when ur soloing u find a swett riff and just later jam with it. Tehn you think of some cool lyrics and bOom! Love it!

  • one of their many freestyle sessions they do to segway to another song.

  • Thanks

  • I thought it was to do with song writing like a scale or something?

  • Well, a great majority White Stripes are 3 chord songs. That's all you need to play the blues.

  • @adubon actually thats a characteristic of punk their other huge influence and not blues

  • What does the number 3 mean with Jack white?

  • He's said it's like a blessing for him (i.e. Holy Trinity). Also, it's an easy way to structure a song in the Stripes. Vocals/guitar/drums. Vocals/guitar/piano. Meg sings/Meg plays organ/ He plays guitar.

  • @adubon he said also that he realized u could upholster a piece of furniture with as little as 3 nails, and that a table with 3 legs can stand.

  • @adubon i know that tesla needed everything to have to do with the number of three.....his room number at a hotel, the number of towels in the bathroom ect....jack is a big fan of tesla

  • He's got an obsession with the number 3. He's called Jack White III, and in all the album's leaflets, the 3 are written in a different colour than anything else. In the UGWNL album, it says he goes on tour with 33 suits...

In interviews, he says it means everything, from the trinity to the 3 biggest brands of cars he hates (which gives the "The Big Three Killed My baby" song)

  • @amanogingi01

Obsessions add to the character and oddness that is Jack White and The White Stripes....

  • @BrokenBoySoldier1 - "It's quite possible that I'm your third man girl, but it's a fact that I'm the seventh son" - Ball and Biscuit

Jack refers to himself as "The Third Man" or "Jack White III" sometimes. He has a record label called Third Man Records. As the other commenter stated, it has to do with everything that the band is about is in "3's" - Red White and Black; Rhythm, Harmony, and Vocals, etc. This was stated in an interview in the Under Great White Northern Lights Movie.

  • @beastm0de theres an old orson welles film called the third man which likely started the title for him

  • its a cover to the Black Keys i forget the song... its goodbye somethng i forget

  • goodbye babylon

  • yea thats it

  • Wrong. This song was played in 2005, Goodbye Babylon was released in 2006. They don't even have the same lyrics. In the end this all means Black Keys (although I do enjoy them) ripped off TWS.

  • Yea, what Phoenixrising235 said. Its from detroit 05

  • He played the same chords when he played a Johnny Cash song. I have the recording.

  • holy crap..thats tight now

  • I really can't listen to TWS on the albums. They just kick so much more ass live.

  • I do have to ask, does anyone know if Jack is a Mason? I kind of doubt it, but you never know... wiki ain't 100% comprehensive.

  • I very much doubt he is a mason and ive never seen a mason ring on his finger so i dno. i know he wanted to be a priest but its normally people with power who become masons like police and stuff

    Sam

  • It could be Cannon, as that was from their first album they don't play those songs the same way anymore. Likelihood is it's a total other song he goes into midway through Cannon, as is common with the White Stripes. Maybe improvisation after all, but I'm not entirely sure.

I have to point out the size of his hair though.

    LARGE.

    LOL!

  • I know right... sheer volume ... It's because it's blown dry, his hair curls....

  • lol yeah

  • looks like hes goin for the cure look lol.

  • lol

  • It's cannon... with a pedal... big muff.. different tempo though... You can hear it mostly when he lets the distortion go. Then from what I gather... he just starts improvising.

  • This song was done in detroit 2005, i think hes just improvising. It was done before walking with a ghost, i think.

  • I <3 we hes scretching the gitar like THAT!!!!DAME!!!HIS DA MAN!!!Jack W was born whit a gitar in his hand!!! AAAAWSOME!!! Jack <3<3<3

  • Sound Like Canon.

    But that's not.

    Awesome Jam.

Must be in the next album with a better version , it will be so awesome.

  • @Swannou This comment made me sad.

  • its switched

  • It isn't synched with the video because the video is from the "under blackpool lights" dvd.

  • no its not this was live in sydney

  • @imafoolhahaha the footage is from sydney but the song and the footage are different you imbecile

  • @dirtycoffee22 Who's the imbecile, now? I was replying to someone who said that the actual clip (NOT the audio) was from elsewhere. I know that the actual song was played in 2005.

  • @imafoolhahaha you are the imbecile and always will be

  • @dirtycoffee22 Oh. Okay.

  • Sounds alot like the intro to "Goodbye Babylon" by The Black Keys.. Jack's version is much more raw tho :D

  • WHOA! IT DOES! Maybe he is improvising Goodbye Babylon....But honestly this is more badass

  • You guys are totally right!!!!!

  • The only problem is that this was 2005 and The Black Keys album with "goodbye babylon" came out in september '06

  • so maybe the black keys was there and stole it... ;-D

  • ok first of all this vid does not match. meg was drumming in the beginning and in the vid in the begging at 0:13 shes drumming... i find that kinda funny :)

  • this is too good why is this not on a cd yet

  • please send me mp3? much appreciated findingemo93@yahoo

  • *drool

    *slurp

sorry, had a drooly moment there

    sooo good!

  • need

    love

    want it <3

  • what is this? coldstone?

  • woah???

  • its a variation on the song cannon from their first album.

  • good call

  • I wish Jack was my father. :/

  • love it

  • i think he says, " I only need a moment. only need a momento."

  • This must be improvisation it makes sense. The extended intro, how long it takes for the drums to come in , the small amount of vocals, the repeated riff...

  • Holy facking macaroni this is awesome thx for this!

  • I even like the little squeek it makes! Yay Jack!

  • Yeah that's the sound of Jack's guitar pick scraping against the strings. It's really an amazing recording quality.

  • Next album? It's been three years since he performed this. Let's hope so, anyway.

  • There's always a chance, you know. Dead Leaves and Dirty Ground was written for the first album in 1999 and made its official debut in 2001 on White Blood Cells, I believe.

  • also Little Cream Soda was written around the time of White Blood Cells

  • This should seriously be on the next album!!!

  • GOD DAMN I'm DYING 4 it to be!! I should make a video of riffs he's done live that should be made into songs

  • random jam...but i actually heard a rumour this was seriously going on their next album...i mean little cream soda was just a live song them it got on icky thump JACK U BETTER PUT THIS ON UR NEXT ALBUM...YES U 2 MEG lol

  • this is why jack white is awesome...

  • The beginning sounds a lot like Cannon

  • and the middle sounds kinda icky thump....ish.

  • Yeah

  • goneblogging: your an idiot. your telling me yo had this song AND know the name.shut up

  • Might not want to call someone out for being an idiot then use the wrong form of "your" (you're) dude. Just sayin'. Awesome song though.

  • That's in response to SoverignSect btw...

  • damn i had this i forgot what it was called

  • Have you gotten any closer to finding out what this song is, adubon?

  • By now I'm sure it was improvised because he has made up songs himself ("Everywhere I Go" and Little Cream Soda- original live version) Jack does so many covers I didn't know if he used someone elses words. I'm pretty certain he made it up.

  • i dont think it's either of those...but they sound similar. I JUST WISH THEYD PUT THIS ON THEIR NEXT ALBUM DAMNIT! sry...um yeah...I HAVE A POINT!

  • do u have an mp3 for this?

  • Of course I do x3xzorrox3x. I'm glad to supply.

  • awesome. thx

  • cashgrabcomplications wants it 2 dude im over grateful 4 that mp3 right now =]

  • whatever it is its bitchin. reminds me their first album...and kinda like their third too

  • I know. I made it. I like editing videos. So for fun I tried to match up live White Stripes footage of a concert Live Livid Sydney. They have most those videos up on YouTube. I could have done a better job with the synchronizing but I wanted to get info. on this song ASAP

  • ur a tard....

  • stupid ass

  • thank you! thank you! thank you! for posing!!!

    that very rare gold!!!

  • its either one of three songs. Harrigan (???), Black Jack Davey or Grinnin in Your Face. You can find the set lists on the White Stripes website.

  • nope...none of the songs listed below. From Dertoit in 05' it is simply listed as "?" on all known set lists.

  • It Cant Be Grinnin In Your Face, Because its always Bluesy and not rocky...

  • there's only one person who knows!...................JACK WHITE HIMSELF

  • That is Very True...

  • and meg(?)

  • this is gold

  • Jack white is dirty little boy..

Jack White is a slave to his guitar...

  • It sounds like Jack got RRREEEAAALLLYYY bored on stage and just decided to do some improv. I LOVE IT!!!

  • i can hear cannon as well. slightly

  • all right this song came after black jack davey...it sounds like an allteration of the riff in that. and the lyrics...to me anyway....sound like an early attempt at bone broke. the whole moneys in the mail line from that song and the whole rhyme scheme and style of singing. Thats what it kinda sounds like to me

  • DAMMN CATCHY RIFF; they should REALLY transform this into a real song! sounds kinda icky thumpish (even though wasn't even around then) a cover perhaps?

  • If the Jack depicted in this video met the Raconteurs Jack?

  • isnt this bow weeivil? it sounds like what hes saying and its usually what he ends most shows with. its called like the ballad of bow weevil or something. he does do alot of improvising though too

  • It's all good :)

  • i wish they had a tab for this god damn jackl white is sweet haha

  • i guess there's a reason why it's unknown. OH YEAH :P.

  • Meg what a fuckin' cutie

  • sounds a lot like cannon to me...

  • thats not a own song... thats improvised

  • does anyone understand the LYRICS to some extend?

here's the live version of it

    /watch?v=w8ZGwxGyGR0

ps: I was gooling a bit and everyone who wrote a setlist for that gig didn't know anything about the song either. They played it between black jack davey and walking with a ghost.

If anyone finds out some more about it, please please reply!

  • I love when the drums kick in. Really hope this one will come out on a new cd, only complete.. Jack is a real genius. All hail the candycane king! xD

  • seriously awsum song, shame it ended half way through. definitely a mixed up cannon. nowt wrong with that!!

  • I came in my pants listening to this...

  • I've just been raped and I liked it. Musically I mean.

  • I was at that show!

I have been to all of their shows in Detroit since damn near the beginning.

  • Jack does like to invent new songs when he plays, or at least play something different. Lots of country/folk songs he comes up with.

That could be why Meg isnt playing that much, just a basic beat to being until Jack establishes a song

  • i want it, where can i find an mp3... probably no where... *sigh*

    such great music

  • just gimme your email

  • Sounds like a mixed up version of Cannon, yeah.

  • sounds like jack just riffing.....listen to that Airline chirp...

  • yeah

  • tiny speeded up version of cannon, re re remix version. pretty cool.

  • Aerosmith ;)

  • its just good music my boys

  • great song man :)

  • its clearly a song played backwords

  • there is no way u actually think that's true? can u seriously be that stupid

  • you idiot. im joking. dont you love space parties?

  • Which song? Though

  • it sounds improvised, but i dont really care, it just sounds awesome!

  • yeah it's gotta be a remix of cannon

  • its a remix of the cannon.

  • yeah this isnt the vid that goes with the vid

i have no idea what it is...

    sounds partly improvised

    hmm.

  • Well, i've never seen this on any album or concert, but i noticed that they aren't actually playing this, it looks like the author took concert shots and put the music in later

  • if you look on the song list for this concert on their website, there is a question mark on one of the songs, so either it was completly improvised, or a work in progress song

  • it sounds nothing like Cannon....

  • i'm thinking it might have been a song they were working on at the time and weren't done with (hence the lack of lyrics), and they either never finished or never released it. it does sound a little bit like cannon at parts, but i don't think it is. there is also a very good chance it was improvised, although most of his improvisation doesn't stretch into full songs like that.

  • well it sounds like cannon..only different

i think thats what meg thought too...because shes playing the drum beat for cannon

  • The drum beats are all the same, homie.

    Lol. I love the stripes.

I'm pretty sure it's all improvisation.

  • Not sure what to think other than I like it.

  • Its all improvised. Maybe a future White Stripes song or Raconteurs song.

  • It is cannon played a little different

  • thats what i think too

  • it sounds nothing like cannon

  • no its cannon backwards.

  • dude no it isnt

cannon goes high to low pitched notes

    this goes high low high

  • in the beginning it sounds like it until like 20 secs in

  • I really like this :)

  • Totally improvised.
