  • get back in the kitchen...dumb broad..women are not on our level

  • Im sure some of the guys on that tampa team had a fling with her.

  • she played two games for the lightning

  • There's plenty of female hockey players in Canada who could easily hold their own in the NHL. Hayley Wickenheiser would make plenty of NHL'ers look stupid.

  • @queeirdeaux No actually you're completely wrong, there are absolutely no female hockey players in Canada that could "hold their own" in the NHL. Wickenheiser does not even come close to having the talent, skill, size, speed, shot, agility to play in the NHL, let alone the AHL, ECHL or any other semi-pro leagues. By the way her playing in Europe was a publicity stunt just as Rheaume's was.

  • @queeirdeaux Umm yea sorry, she's very talented and all but she would get destroyed at the NHL level. She would probably do ok in major junior cause the guys still havn't filled out yet.

  • @brock9, 100% agree

@queeirdeaux, Hayley Wickenheiser is the best female hockey player of the last decade. She ''only'' played a few games with HC Salamat in the Suomi-sarja (the third highest hockey league in Finland). We're not talking AHL or NHL. Actually, some AHL teams beat hands down the best Finland teams in the first division.

The best women of the last decade also turned down an offer from Phil Esposito to play for the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.

  • @queeirdeaux,

Everybody on the NHL roster is a beast. My friend personally played a few games with Darcy Verot (2PTS in 37 NHL games) and he admitted he wasn't his caliber! My friend played 2 games in QMJHL (more games than Manon Rhéaume did).

Respect these guys; they got talent, devoted themselves for the sport, and they entertained us…

    (Sorry for my English mistakes)

  • if i was a player in that game i would crash the tampa bay net every time ;)

  • id love to have seen her play a game, and perhaps drop the gloves

  • @willdank

Making the baseless assumption that Im jealous is pretty fucking stupid considering she simply had her 15 minutes of fame and nothing else. I'd rather be jealous of someone more successfull. AND she got cut from the pro team almost immediatly. Thats my point.

  • @willdank

Yeah she was soooooooo good that they she played 1 exhibition game to eventually get cut. They had a new team in Tampa Bay and they wanted media attention. And they got it. And why me questionning the intentions of the Lightning would make automatically make me jealous of her? Like that means Im chauvinistic or something. You're retarded.

  • @willdank

Do you even know what ''marketing stunt'' means?

  • lol wow she faced 9 shots and allowed 2 goals... thats garbage

  • WTF? She's hot.

  • Luckily they escorted her back to kitchen.

  • @Dregan

*sigh*... another bald, fat, pitiful old hick, putting down the female sex to compensate for his own lacking in masculinity.

She may not be good enough for the NHL, but she is sure as hell better than you.

  • pretty cool...but i can see why it'd b hard to put females in the nhl...they should get their own league though but not sure how well it would do..considering the WNBA :S

  • She's my hero.

  • im lookin for the score of the two games she played. it most be terrible because it almost seem like a taboo

  • im lookin for the score of the two games she played. it most be terrible because it almost seem like a taboo

  • Im a twelve year old girl goalie in canada, i play on a peewee A boys team. And this woman and many other female goaltenders such as i, are my idol. So dont be hatin on us.

  • @kikiandwaffles w00t!

  • @kikiandwaffles no one is hatin on you, we are just saying girls couldnt handle being in the NHL it is to rough for you, if girls complain about how much harder they have it then guys (which isnt true cus we all go through rough patches) then women couldnt handle being body checked by NHL players, it is ok for women to play hockey but in your own leauge where it is fair and wont be so rough for you guys

  • Sadly, knowing Esposito, this was a stunt. I met him by chance in their inaugural year. He was pushing the TB pins hard to a nobody like me and talking them up big time. He was all about the sell. I wonder how today's women would match up. Wickenhiser, Campbell, St. pierre. Do you think they would have had the ability to crack a 4th line in their prime today? Manon did open a door though. At that is positive.

  • @quixote22 i dont know if they would be able to handle playing a line. Im sure that there are some that have the skill to do so and im sure that there are many that are much better then some of the guys on the ice now, but how many checks could they handle. Nothing against chicks, theres nothin on this earth better then Girls and Cars but they arent physicaly built to take the rough play that happens in hockey.

  • @Wafe88 i dont think they could handle it, if they compain about how much harder girls have it then guys (even tho it isnt true cus we all go through rough patches) then they wont be able to handle playing in the NHL the average size for a women is probably between 100-140 and the average size for a NHL foward or d-men is probably between id say 180-250, it is ok for women to play hockey but i think they should play in their own leauge where it is fair and they wont get hurt

  • @quixote22 there is no checking in the womens leagues. at some point during a game there would be that 1 douche that would lay her out just because hes bigger. playing goalie like manon would be fine because that involves more reaction speed and hand/eye cordnation rather then phyisical strength and toughness.

  • @Wafe88

why did Matt Cooke come to mind when you mentioned the word douche...lol

  • u gota love our neighbors to the north eh

  • Maybe she wasnt good anough but she did something for girl that wanted to play hockey... after that lot of girls get a chance to play

  • What a shitty rink tampa had there..

  • @fetchy15 That was Expo Hall which was horrible by NHL standards , the Lightning the next year played in the Thunderdome which is now TropicanaField for 3 seasons then finally moved into the St pete Times forum.

  • It was a publicity stunt, but I don't care.

    It was awesome nonetheless.

  • she is kinda hot...and it makes me laugh when people are running their gums about how she sucks...What??? I would love to see how many shots u could save in the NHL!!! At least she had a go at it.

  • wow 2 goals on 9 shots sucks

  • She played one period, faced 9 shots and was scored on twice.

    She isn't that good

  • hahahahhah veryslyfox ur a boss. every comment hes said is 100% true. Im not a sexist guy i have 5 sisters just the way woman are built they will never play in the big leagues.

  • You know Patrick Roy said those compliments only to get a BJ from her later

  • Can we stop the political correctness bullshit. Women are slower and weaker than men and will never make it into an elite league like the NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, etc. She had 9 shots on her and stopped only 7?? HAHAHA get real. You can take a high school male with no skating experience, and after 9 months of training he can do as well as this chick. Get real.

  • Congrats to her. If a woman can out play a man in a sport, why not have them in the NHL? When you get down to it, the NHL is a business and so can hire who they want. Don't think a the top woman can beat the top men (no sexism, but men are physically stronger and have more lung capacity than woman) in defensemen or forwards but woman can do the goalie slot just as well as a man since that spot is more reflexes and longevity than raw power.

  • I personally think that the men can have the NHL,and that there should be a WNHL. I mean, there is a pro football and basketball league, why not hockey??

  • @Nat5582 There are in other countries, but there isn't really a market for it in America...the WNBA struggles and was really tough for a lot of teams starting out.

  • I totally agree and I'm a boy. But they already have a league and an olympic league too.

  • There already is a league? You mean in Canada right? Cause there isn't one in the US.

  • Yes in canada but it is not international.

  • @eticom1 your a boy

    but i'm a man :)

  • the french guy looks like ellen degeneres

  • i was in love with this girl when i was a kid, lol

  • a boys minnesota high school hockey team can and has beat the womens national team, this shows how much higher the level of play is for men then women

  • awesome i rember in grade 6 publicity f that she is prob a better goalie then you sorry but its true

  • Hey, If she had the skills to play in the NHL, I would be all for it, but obviously she didn't

  • hahaha=]

  • I have only one problem with a woman playing goaltender at the NHL level. Can your imagine what would happen if the other team took a run at her? Christ they would try and kill the guy, literally.

  • I think goaltender is the only position in hockey that men and women are equal. If Manon was a forward she would get owned but goalie I think is fine for women to play. Plus aren't women more flexible and have more stamina. I think there should be more women in hockey

  • she not good enough to be in thr NHL but if i see a girl goalie thats is good enough to be in the NHL, I would not have a problem with it.

  • Did you notice they didn't interview anyone in the tampa organization, in fact everyone interviewed was a Montrealer.

  • It's a men's league. Always was and always will be.

  • ya Patrick Roy get some! lol

  • It was just a marketing stunt. She didnt had the talent to be there.

  • @darthrevan6 hey. i dont c u playing in the NHL...

  • @Knoxxification

    And your point is?

  • @darthrevan6 dead on. in their first years as an NHL franchise in a place with virtually no market, they needed some way to gain an audience. if people honestly believe she had the potential to get the job as a regular goalie then they know nothing about hockey. that's the most competitive position in the game.

  • @darthrevan6 Meh.

  • @darthrevan6 you dont even got the talent to step on the same ice you faggot.

  • @BlackDynomight

Neither does she with these guys.

  • This sexist pig complaining about skill level in the NHL...and why women should not be issued NHL contracts..must be angry, I think his local Powder Puff Hockey Team, cut him.

  • im realated to manon,im paul justin rehaume last name originaded from rheame originated from reaume originated from the word kingdom in french,no lie

  • she's actually kinda hot; I was expecting this super-mega butch dyke.

  • of course shes hot shes from my home town Montreal

  • @Chapas45 She is, the girl interviewed is implanted xD.

  • Must of been awkward in locker room hehe...

  • IT*S FUNNY CAUSE HE'S BLACK

  • So she wasn't taken seriously...

    Who takes the Lightning seriously?

  • wow...i dont know very many lesbians that play ice hockey...

and out of all the things, you say im a freakin lesbian..

i feel bad for you, god help you...

  • the nhl is open to any person skilled enough to make the grade.

there's your opportunity, now go make it happen, girls. nothin sexist about it

  • Anyone who says she or any woman doesn't deserve a shot, is a sexest pig....isn't this the land of opportunity? She didn't seem that bad either..and plus it's goalie, so she wasn't at high risk at being boarded or a dirty hit or anything...

  • Any woman who is skilled enough to play at the NHL level is deserving of a tryout, but Phil Espesito was obviously using her as a publicity stunt. She didn't even go through the minors like all prospects, aside from the highly skilled ones, go through. That's what tells you she wasn't taken seriously.

  • He even admitted that she was a publicity stunt... He said that i twas to raise awareness of the Lighning...

  • Therein is the problem, there AREN'T any women who are skilled enough to play at the NHL level. Even the smallest NHL players are going to be larger, faster, and stronger on the puck than any woman hockey, the league's talent level is such that there is already a crazy amount of ridiculously talented men who will never make the cut for the majors. I could maybe see it happening for bottom CHL teams or something, but it's never happening in the NHL.

  • Do you WATCH hockey? Goalies get physically roughed up all the time. Whenever there's a post-whistle team scrum, where is it a good 95% of the time? At the crease right in front of the goalie. There's no such thing as no risk of being roughed up.

There are 60 goaltender openings in the entire NHL. Thousands upon thousands of male goaltenders have put up better numbers than Rheaume ever has and they're still forever destined to ride the bench. It's not sexism, it's reality.

  • I love her and i do think she deserved a chance- and i couldn't agree more, the NHL should be open for guys and girls!

It doesn't matter what gender you are, as long as you play good and have great skills!

  • if she could hang then more power to her, but 2 genos out of 9 shots is pretty brutal.

  • Not really...

There are other goalies who have had far worse averages in their very first game in the NHL league.

  • I agree and where are they now???Either in the minors or riding the pine....There is a reason the majority of players go through the minors before they get to the show....

  • i think women should be able to play in the NHL.

im a girl and i play hockey and i think it is WAY better to play with guys than girls..

    more of a challenge =]

i love it and women should be able to play!

    thats my opinion

  • They need to have a woman's hockey league that is on the same national level as the NHL. I think that would be good.

  • I agree. The same team names even. Like a women's version of the Ducks, Maples Leafs, Canucks, ect.

Plus there is a WNBA, so why is there no goddamn WNHL?

  • Umm, do you live in the 1950's? With a statement like that it is pretty clear that you do.

  • Hailey Wickenheiser is from Canada she Played Forward in the Mens Elite League in Sweden!!

  • Women in the NHL, like many people have already said, would completely destroy the physical factor of the game. The checking would either result in injuries or it would be soft. Hockey is a physical sport, lots of talent too but you cant play hockey without physicality. Women in the NHL will completely ruin the NHL. Sorry ladies, make your own WNHL but stay away from the NHL. I am a very conservative person and I appreciate the old fashion values far too much to change the league for feminism!!!

  • im proud of her.. im a guy

  • Regardless of whether she was ready for the NHL... Manon is a lovely girl and class act all the way. Two things that can easily be said about her is that she always gave 100% on the ice, and conducted herself with dignity off the ice.

  • I couldn't agree more! She diserves her shot just like everyone else good enough to be in the NHL, man OR woman!

  • women suck in hockey a lot more than men... Even in goal she wasnt that good 2 goals on 9 shots -_- mens reflexes are faster and their bodies are just stronger in my opinion women should stick to home work :D

  • i understand women who like hockey can play but there not enough sponsers

  • women are physically weaker than men, but it`s been scientifically proven that they are nine time`s more resistant to pain. We should have our own league!!!

  • Girl's hockey is way better.

    They actually play the game.

Men just go around and body checking other guy's, that's not hockey.

  • seriously... have you seen the speed of men's hockey in comparison to women's hockey though?

  • dude, wtf are you talking about?

  • speeds faster and have you ever heard the expression i went to a fight and a hockey game broke out

  • Um.

    That make's no sense...

    moron.

  • it makes no sense to you cause your iq is that of a dog

  • you're a fucking idiot.

    really, shut the fuck up.

it made no sense at all.

  • no i'm not i garuntee my iq is far superior than yours because you my friends are nothing but a complete idiot with no common sense

  • Um.

Im not more then one person.

because you said you my friends.

    you don't have any.

and you can't even spell guarantee you fucking idiot.

so sure, dream on that your iq is higher then mine.

    bitch.

  • thAn one person, not then one person. you guys are both idiots

  • You are too you fucking idiot.

Oh wait your a fat geek who does nothing more then sits their ass and plays war craft all day then get mad at your computer if it doesn't load in the next two seconds.

AND I'M ONLY 10! SO SHUT THE FUCK UP!

    oooHOOOOoOOoOOOOo

    you're gay....

    @_@ WOOORD UP!

  • There are tons of women interested in hockey but not enough sponsors for a wnhl

  • women hockey is boring. sorry but no hits no action not interesting.

women can play for sure, but nobody would watch it.

  • she would have been alot better if she was like 5'11". She looks really fast and stuff, but she's sooo tiny.

  • ya... but they didnt care because they just wanted her for publisity... ugh! I HATE THE TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING!!!!!

  • ya i agree but women can play hockey! just watch womens olympic hockey. a lot of them r just as good as the guys.

  • not even close, goalie is the only area they can compete.

  • if they went into the NHL ya women could only play goalie... but in general they can play ANY position just as good as the guys

  • I agree.

  • she couldn't play in the NHL she wasn't strong enough but what she did is phenomenal pllaying pros hockey!

  • shes my hero! women should be allowd to play! its not fair that we cant play! i went to a hockey camp with all guys and i went there to make a difference. women can play and we r just as got as men!

  • LOL no women are not. Seriously, like to see a women take a hit from Zdeno Chara or Dion Phaneuf etc etc. Women cant compete at the same level as men. What would they do when a brawl happens on this ice? I dont mind women playing sports. But no they cant compete at the same level as men.

  • ugh! thats just wat i expect from u men! u dont believe that women can do anything men can do! girls can take a hit or a check! and if a brawl happends than they would just go off to the side!

  • LoL Absolutely ridiculous.. Women CAN NOT do anything men can do.. we're built differently!

Its just plain fact. Women and men are not the same, we should be embracing the differences, not trying to be like men. Besides this whole manon rheaume was nothing more than a marketing ploy to get girls to play hockey.

  • Not saying that women cant do all things men can do. But what your saying is that a women can be physically equal to a man. No its not possible. Sure women can check but if they tried checking a Male hockey player, they would just bounce of him and if the male hits her she will be seriously injured. Another example is slap shots.I watch the womens Canadas team when they play and root for them, but when they slap a puck from the blue line it just barely makes it.But a guy smashes it off the glass

  • i understand but... y cant they give us a chance?

  • Because then men would be basically forced to go easy and to lower the physical part of the game.

  • thats true but they should just give women their own NHL! i no tons of ppl who would watch womens hockey!

  • WNHL

  • yup i just cant believe the tampa bay lightning would stoop so low for publisity!!

  • i agree. i love the nhl and wud hate for it to go soft but i also love watching womens hockey (team Canada!)...which is y i think there shud be a wnhl, but then again, thr r only so many wickenheisers and campbells, meaning there wd only b like, 6 teams, because there arent enough women interested in hockey.<key words:as many

so im all for the wnhl but it wudnt work. on paper, it sounds good, but there arent enough supportors sadly. it wud b gr8 to finaly c our canadian women actualy play here!

  • there r a lot of women that r intrested in hockey... u would be suprised how women play and love the game. the thing that i just dont understand is why the NHL wont give us a chance

  • Its a scientifical fact that men grow much stronger than women physically, and hockey is a physical game. Get over it

  • ya but if we have a womens league than they can make rules like no fights and no checking

  • ur right women will want to stop fights and checking they should be home cooking dinner

  • i cant believe wat u just said!! women can do anything they want to! we can play hockey if we want to! in fact i already do and im a girl! i just cant believe you said that!

  • Right on buddy boy. Couldnt agree more!!

  • i have 1 of her hockey cards :) it's cool

  • i read an article about this on an EQAO test in grade 3

  • Haha! I had Jacques Demers' hat in the early 90s!

  • you suck

  • She may never read this but I'd like to say merci to Manon someday. She has been one of the greatest inspirations I've had in my life. Due to her determination and passion for the game, I have the right to lace up with the boys (there are no girls teams here) and not be afraid nor ashamed. This goes for many others too. I'm the ONLY girl. Manon was put into a position where she was most likely to fail. What they didn't expect was the amount of hope she gave to so many other girls and women.ETHPI

  • one of my heroes. us girls can play too!

  • LOL @ Jacques Demers

  • She could do better than some current NHL goalies!

  • Non.

  • I have her autograph haha

  • drrol.. hot woman that loves hockey. I can die now
