We're not talking AHL or NHL. Actually, some AHL teams beat hands down the best Finland teams in the first division.
The best women of the last decade also turned down an offer from Phil Esposito to play for the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.
Everybody on the NHL roster is a beast. My friend personally played a few games with Darcy Verot (2PTS in 37 NHL games) and he admitted he wasn't his caliber! My friend played 2 games in QMJHL (more games than Manon Rhéaume did).
Respect these guys; they got talent, devoted themselves for the sport, and they entertained us…

Sadly, knowing Esposito, this was a stunt. I met him by chance in their inaugural year. He was pushing the TB pins hard to a nobody like me and talking them up big time. He was all about the sell. I wonder how today's women would match up. Wickenhiser, Campbell, St. pierre. Do you think they would have had the ability to crack a 4th line in their prime today? Manon did open a door though. At that is positive.

Do you WATCH hockey? Goalies get physically roughed up all the time. Whenever there's a post-whistle team scrum, where is it a good 95% of the time? At the crease right in front of the goalie. There's no such thing as no risk of being roughed up.
There are 60 goaltender openings in the entire NHL. Thousands upon thousands of male goaltenders have put up better numbers than Rheaume ever has and they're still forever destined to ride the bench. It's not sexism, it's reality.

Regardless of whether she was ready for the NHL... Manon is a lovely girl and class act all the way. Two things that can easily be said about her is that she always gave 100% on the ice, and conducted herself with dignity off the ice.

They need to have a woman's hockey league that is on the same national level as the NHL. I think that would be good.

I agree. The same team names even. Like a women's version of the Ducks, Maples Leafs, Canucks, ect.
Plus there is a WNBA, so why is there no goddamn WNHL?

Women in the NHL, like many people have already said, would completely destroy the physical factor of the game. The checking would either result in injuries or it would be soft. Hockey is a physical sport, lots of talent too but you cant play hockey without physicality. Women in the NHL will completely ruin the NHL. Sorry ladies, make your own WNHL but stay away from the NHL. I am a very conservative person and I appreciate the old fashion values far too much to change the league for feminism!!!

Regardless of whether she was ready for the NHL... Manon is a lovely girl and class act all the way. Two things that can easily be said about her is that she always gave 100% on the ice, and conducted herself with dignity off the ice.

women suck in hockey a lot more than men... Even in goal she wasnt that good 2 goals on 9 shots -_- mens reflexes are faster and their bodies are just stronger in my opinion women should stick to home work :D

Not saying that women cant do all things men can do. But what your saying is that a women can be physically equal to a man. No its not possible. Sure women can check but if they tried checking a Male hockey player, they would just bounce of him and if the male hits her she will be seriously injured. Another example is slap shots.I watch the womens Canadas team when they play and root for them, but when they slap a puck from the blue line it just barely makes it.But a guy smashes it off the glass

i agree. i love the nhl and wud hate for it to go soft but i also love watching womens hockey (team Canada!)...which is y i think there shud be a wnhl, but then again, thr r only so many wickenheisers and campbells, meaning there wd only b like, 6 teams, because there arent enough women interested in hockey.<key words:as many

She may never read this but I'd like to say merci to Manon someday.She has been one of the greatest inspirations I've had in my life. Due to her determination and passion for the game, I have the right to lace up with the boys (there are no girls teams here) and not be afraid nor ashamed. This goes for many others too. Non. Manon Rhéaume à participer à un match hors concours pour la simple et bonne raison qu'elle joueait avec Tampa Bay. Une équipe qui faisait son entré dans la LNH. Tout était une question de marketing. Aucune femme ne jouera dans la LNH. Il serait surprenant de voir un jour un joueuse aussi rapide qu'un homme. et même si le talent brute était là, il y a le facteur physique. Une femme, aussi talentueuse qu'elle soit, ne pourrait suivre le tempo d'un match de la LNH bien longtemps
