  • i would have just shot him instead of going through all the trouble. it woulda made a nice fur and wuda made me a few bucks.

  • @trappinfeaver Shooting it ,skinning it, getting rid of the smell and selling it sounds like ALOT more work than just opening the trap and letting it free( it only took 6 minutes 56 seconds). I'm sure the fine for discharging a firearm and poaching in the city would be a lot more then the fur is worth :p

  • @Wildrsq Poaching? no. if it was in the city it would have just as easy to beat it over the head, one hit and its dead. somtimes people wanna make some money and somtimes thats involves skining a skunk...once you get used to it, it dont take but a couple minuets. :p

  • @trappinfeaver This skunk was trapped on public land without a permit,POACHING!

  • @Wildrsq since when do you have to have a permit? public land is open to the public you dont need one and espacially dont need one for skunks..there varmits. and if you did need a permit how would you know if he had one or not?

  • @trappinfeaver If you hunt or trap, you have to have a permit or license. And even then you cant hunt or trap inside the city limits. Skunks are awesome animals!

  • @Wildrsq so you tellin me if you live in tow and you had some nucience skunk living under your hous you couldnt set a trap and catch it even if you were gonna let it go somwhere else? yea whatever. it is also illigal to screw with other peoples traps.

  • @trappinfeaver No that's not what I'm saying. This trap was set on public/city owned property without any permit, and was illegal. You can trap "nuisance" wildlife if they are causing damage on your property, but you cant relocate skunks in Colorado.

  • @Wildrsq again, how would you know if he had a permit or not?

  • @trappinfeaver This guy called me because he was trying to catch a raccoon that was teasing his dog, but instead, caught a skunk. He was afraid of getting sprayed and called me to get the skunk out of the trap. He wanted me to relocate the skunk but under Colorado State law it is illegal to transport or relocate the striped skunk.I can also call the DOW and ask since it was on public/city property. You(the trapper) would have to deal with the city too since it was city property.

  • Wonderful to see him safely on his way :)

  • you do know it is illegal to take an animal out of some bodys traps that is not yours right?

  • @MrCoonhunter503 You know its illegal to set traps on public property without license!

  • @Wildrsq it is also illegal to steal someones trap.

  • @beavthetrapper Can you read? I didn't steal this guys trap, he called ME to get the skunk out. You might want to read the comments before you post one.

  • @Wildrsq i'm not going to go through and read all the comments. however i am sorry after i posted it i did hear you say in the video that you was about to put it in his yard.

  • @beavthetrapper Apology accepted :)

  • By the way, I would be very angry if you or someone else released a wild skunk on or near where I live. You should not release them near houses or in residential areas. Otherwise you're just causing someone to possibly have a skunk in their yard or even in their house. And I think that would be a quite unneighborly and rude thing to do to anyone who lives nearby

    Just my two cents.

  • @threeby8887 don't forget the damage a skunk can do to a houses foundation.

  • @beavthetrapper Well cited about the damage skunks can do to a house's foundation.

As for HSUS and PETA, they're not even worth acknowledging.

  • @beavthetrapper Im sure you have documentation to back this statement?

The only time a skunk would damage your foundation is when you neglect your house and are too stupid to be proactive.

  • Okay, I can go along with not allowing animal-trapping in national parks without a license, but not when that skunk, raccoon, opposum, etc. gets onto your private property. I support hunting and also trapping, as sometimes it is necessary for pest control. Just try to use humane methods (like live cage traps) instead, even if you do plan to shoot or drown the animal.

  • @threeby8887 i am a trapper and i would like you to know that i have a higher injury rate with cage traps then i do with footholds or snares. i have a less than 1% rate with snares and right about 1% with footholds. cage traps i have about a 20% rate. when they get caught they slam agains the door knocking teeth out and sometimes try to bite and pull the door open with their teeth causing them to brake. the only reason other traps are frowned upon is lies from orgainzations like hsus and peta.

  • @beavthetrapper Thank you. That's an interesting perspective on non-cage traps. The only problem with snares and legholds is how then do you transport a caught skunk. But if you live in a state where skunk relocation is illegal anyway, because of rabies concerns, then it's easier to shoot the skunk.

  • @threeby8887 if you want to relocate a skunk that is in a snare or foothold you carfully use a catchpole to keep from being bit and to place the skunk in a cage to transport it. and as you seen in this video you use a tarp to keep from getting sprayed, ofcourse there is soap that takes the smell of skunk right off (tomato juice dosn't work, trust me). any soap with anise in it works because it naturally nutralizes the oder.

  • @beavthetrapper Thanks!

  • @beavthetrapper You are so full of it!! I would love to see some video on this humane method.

  • GOOD FOR YOU!!! You are correct.....people should not be allowed to trap! You know what would have happened to that little guy!

  • You intentionally released a skunk someone trapped? That's frigin ridiculous, they're trapped for a reason. See how warm and happy you feel if you ever have your house or pets sprayed by one.

  • crocadileut, the skunk was trapped on public property without a license and that is illegal (called poaching). If you are going to trap wildlife you must know and follow the State,City and County laws(he wasn't).The man that trapped the skunk called someone experienced with animals and wildlife (ME) to release the skunk, he was afraid he was gonna get sprayed. Do some research on skunks and you will see how beneficial skunks are to have around.

  • @Wildrsq bullshit nobody cares it just a damn skunk

  • @12fergers I DO,so does most of my clients and the people I deal with!!! Your comment just show your ignorance and lack of compassion! Please don't breed 12fergers

  • @Wildrsq give me one thing that skunk does for U

  • @12fergers 75% of a skunks diet consists of thing that most people consider a nuisance: mice and many different kinds of incests.Skunks are better mousers than cats. They also eat carrion and help keep this earth clean of rotting animals. Name 1 bad thing about skunks(besides their smell).

  • @Wildrsq they look at me crossways

  • Respond to this video... duh

  • @Wildrsq they are not better mousers then cats. their diet is mainly fruit and bugs (like the white grubs found in the ground) in the spring and summer. in the late fall and winter they don't eat much but when they do it is usually bugs that they dig up when they can find them. they will eat every bird egg they can get to. they also carry rabies, and a type of lice that spreads easily to cats and dogs. oh and those rotting animals fertilize the ground so plants can get the nourishment they need.

  • @beavthetrapper You might want to do some real research on striped skunks. They dont climb trees(they cant climb) , so most bird eggs are safe from the striped skunk. And they are better mousers then cats are!!! A cat will catch a single mouse that is running around, while a skunk will dig up a mouse nest and eat ALL the babies. Rabies? How many people have been killed by a rabid skunk in ths US and Canada in the last 50 years?I will answer for you, 0 ,big fat ZERO(look it up)!!!

  • @beavthetrapper Assuming you are a trapper by your user name, I will also assume you hunt too. Would you like to guess how many people are killed every year in the US in hunting accidents? How about 100+ EVERY year. Skunks 0 - hunters 100+ Where is threat?

I cant even respond to your "rotting animals" comment. Are you serious?

  • @Wildrsq yeah i am serious about the rotting animals. have you ever heard of natural fertilizer, well that is one of the ingredients. it is all part of the natural life cycle you know the one they teach in school. hunting accidents do happen but so do car wrecks. i know the risk and i also know that most of the hunting accident happen because of people not following the hunters orange laws.

  • @beavthetrapper i'm not sure which statment you are refering to. if it is the one about hunter orange laws then you should be able to contact a game warden or a fish and wildlife department to get that information. as far as a skunk damaging a houses foundation, they tunnel. they dig a hole to get under your house, once there they will usually dig other holes as exits or burrows for hibernation. after they dig so much the ground can settle cracking a homes foundation.

  • @beavthetrapper Well the skunks dont hibernate in this part of Colorado and I deal with skunks all year long.I have never seen foundation damage because of 1 skunk. If you maintain your property a little and take care of the problem when it first happens, you would have no damage. There are simple ways to skunk proof your house permanently without trapping, poisoning or shooting them.

  • @Wildrsq in this part of the country they hibernate for a couple of months. foundation damage happens from time to time and i have read a few articles in magazines that talked about people vacationing for a few months and coming home to problems ranging from skunks in the crawl space under the house to raccoons in the attic (which is a costly problem to fix). lets not forget that skunks like many furbearers overpopulate easily and can spread disease to other skunks and other species.

  • @beavthetrapper They teach scavengers are bad in school? They play an important roll on this planet, just as important as any other animal. They ARE part of the "natural life cycle". What school did you go to?

A lot of hunters die from falling out of tree stands, shooting themselves, giving guns to children, shooting other hunters( even in orange)...I would think correctly identifying your target before you fire and saftly handling a deadly weapon would be rule #1.

  • @beavthetrapper Why do you guys get all dressed up in matching camouflage and make up just to wear an orange vest and hat? Your not really camouflaged anymore are you.

  • @Wildrsq the laws vary from state to state, some allow what some call a broken orange pattern while others it has to be solid orange. studies have shown that deer see orange and red as a shade of grey, while blue stands out like the orange sticks out to us. plus not all hunters wear camo. some states only require people to wear orange during certain hunting seasons such as modern gun, or muzzeloading. while not requiring it for bow season or small game. some hunters wear the orange anyway.

  • i trap and live traping is the best you just bring them to lake lake and drownd them and then theres no holes in the pellt and you would get in moor trouble then him for tampering its not aginst the law to trap in city and in idaho you dont need a traping lisens for live traps

  • Well according to the Idaho Fish and Game, even if you want to trap Predatory or Unprotected animals you are required to have the appropriate valid Idaho hunting, trapping or combination hunting license.

daynnagurl12 you need to learn your state laws

  • You're a good man, nice rescue buddy!

  • Thanks!!

  • Why are you relaesing it? Whos trap is it? Do you know that this is called tampering and it is very illegal to tamper with someone elses trap?

  • It's on city owned property. Trapping without a license is called poaching and that's illegal.

  • Great job on saving the little guy it's good too see Some one has a heart

  • Thanks

  • what do you do for a living other then save animals or is this your only job?

  • I'm a stay-at-home dad. I have a humane animal control business, but I dont make much money doing it :( . I do a lot of animal rescue but its all volunteer.

  • i got sprayed by a skunc i caught yesterdauy

  • That skunk was beautiful. I've been watching your videos. How many times have you gotten bit? I know you got bit by the goose, but I was just wondering. I think its great work that you're doing for the critters. Keep up the good work.

  • I have only been bit a few times, usually by a goose or bird.I haven't had anything draw blood yet besides geese.
