A world market for food helps nations who are hungry because the infrastructure to import food has already been bought and paid for by rich nations. We spend money on high dollar items and lower cost food gets sent to poorer/hungrier nations.
Of course, if we let them starve the bleeding hearts would be demanding we air lift food and supplies in to help those people.
