Even though THE COLBYS paled in comparison to DYNASTY, it was still fun...At least when Barbara Stanwyck was on there. LOVED Bill Conti's theme. And, I gotta agree with DarthCipient on this one. The 80's shows were perfect escapist entertainment. Hell, I even loved MIAMI VICE, although it clashed with my viewing of both DALLAS and FALCON CREST (DALLAS won), so I had to catch MIAMI VICE in reruns. And, at least the shows back then weren't like 24, right-wing propaganda disguised as entertainment!
Back in the 1980's we had awesome shows like this which were really escapist fantasies about people so rich and classy they were virtually royalty. But it was all incredibly entertaining to watch. These days, everything is based on fucking courtrooms and crime investigation. I don't give a shit how a bullet enters a body or watching a show featuring a damn sex crime every episode for season upon season. People please, don't watch that McShit. Don't encourage television producers. I beg you.
I just burst out laughing reading your comment. Everything you've written is spot on! They also have those ghastly reality shows (Big Brother, etc.) on TV nowadays. Ugghh!
@DarthCipient Totally agree! This is class back in the 80's and whilst growing up watching this, it brought style, class and sophiscation to the TV screen. Dont watch much American shows now as they are dreadful eps. all the Crime dramas now or teenage shows like Glee, Dawsons Creek etc.
i have all of the colbys on dvd if anyone wants them i will swap them for intervews with people from the show or joan collins intervews private message me :)
yes i loved domonique, but sadly the producers didnt know what to do with her character on dynasty so they just threw her over to the colbys as needed so she wouldnt be bored i guess, but she was by far the fiercest prime time diva of all time! i LOVE diahann!
That's really cute Calbrini. I heard about a woman who was such a big fan of The Young & The Restless that she would imitate the opening sequence when it came on. Also, the lady who played Sable, Stephanie Beecham was on a popular British Series called "Bad Girls" where she played a glamorous con artist doing five years for selling bogus real-estate and fraudulent charities.
Yeah, the Colby's theme and credits had to be one of the best. I actually thought of filming my own sequence with my family in it. It would have "rocked". To bad the show never held its own!
yeah... The Colby's did have a great opening credits sequence...in fact I think it was better than that of Dynasty. It had more fanfare to it...love that! :)
I didn't remember Barbara Stanwick being involved with The Colby's. Would have been interesting to see some scenes with her and Linda Evans; her TV daughter from The Big Valley in the 60's.
Well Beacham gas a guets star on Beverly Hills 90210, and recently guest starred together with dynasty co-star Christopher Gazonove "Ben Carrington) on the Bold and the Beautiful. Beacham will return to B&B early 2008 for several episodes with scenes involving Jacky Marone.
Hey, that's great!!! I watched her on a British Show called Bad Girls where she played a convict named Phyl who along with her best friend Bev was doing time for fraud. Selling Real Estate which was swamp land and raising money for orphans that they pocketed themselves.
the whole fallon with tspaceship killed this show but i loved it till then
my fave dynasty/colbys scene is when blake loses the house aand alexis throws krystals furs off the rail and says and take these rages with you

An diese Serie kann ich mich auch noch dunkel erinnern, aber der Denver-Clan war um einiges besser.

Odd theme - starts off as Dynasty, and turns into Superman.

Between Dynasty and this, I preferred this theme and the other show. Such a pompous fanfare, heralding a new age in tacky glossy soap. Love it.

Dianhann Carroll actually got more to do in "The Colbys" than she did in "Dynasty".
It really is spot the wig with the male actors in "The Colbys" though!

Such a strong theme for an otherwise lacklustre show

Stephanie Beacham is the most beautiful woman of the late 1980s. Where is she today and why doesn't she helm another nighttime soaper?
