  • What's the point in covering a song just to make it sound the same? This cover is amazing; an expression of raw unabashed energy that sounds like a savage wave. And a perfect example of why my music library is overloaded with the Pumpkins. Every live version is so different.

  • This can't be from 2008. Melissa and James in the band...

  • sick!!!!! love it!!

  • fucking crap

  • fucking love this

  • i guess im a hater, cuz this shit sucks

  • I love the Pumpkins but I', not digging this at all.

  • All I'm gonna say - haters gonna hate

when I heard it - headbanging all the way

    peace

  • fucking GARBAGE

worse than phish doing talking heads..i didnt think that was possible!

  • That's how you cover Talking Heads! Make it heavy metal! Pumpkins are the best

  • I really wish the Billy had gotten over the shitty heavy metal thing, and just concentrated on angsty dream-scapes, w/ Billy doing his whiny angel-with-a-head-cold voice.

  • everyone below who said this wasn't a good cover is a complete fucking moron and doesn't know anything about good music or have any taste at all

  • everyone below who said this wasn't a good cover is a complete fucking moron and doesn't know anything about good music or have any taste at all

  • I have to say I've never heard a good cover of a Talking Heads song... for my taste this isn't good either. Strange 'cause SM are quite talented but they totally miss the point here IMHO

  • Man, how can you guys NOT like this? This is one of my favorite video performances of them yet! I only wish it wasn't freaking faded out... Damn TV station!

    This is great!

  • you people are out of your mind. its fantastic. the reason a fan like a song at all is because it means something to them. its the idol worship that makes you think you can judge on behalf of byrnes. at least theyre not winking hipsters like arcade fire. and i love arcade fire. anyway this would take too long. fuck you! you have failed as an audience!!

  • I think everyone is upset that you like Arcade Fire, not that you berated the youtube users.

  • i really like a lot of Smashing Pumpkins stuff, though they were very inconsistent. their covers of this were always appalling though, I can't think of many great songs less appropriate to be turned into a self-indulgent semi-jam with new lyrics that scan like a bad parody of Billy Corgan. Genuinely amazed that a decent band can suck the joy out of one of the most life-affirming singles ever

  • I prefer the Talking Heads version :) but who doesn't?

  • Nothing to see with the original song...lack of ideas...

  • better run, run, run away

  • I agree 100%.

  • I like hearing covers that are way different than the original, and I don't dislike the smashing pumpkins for doing this, but it just doesn't work out. Nothing wrong with trying something different.

  • I don't understand why everyone has a problem with this . . . I'll admit this Musique Plus show is lackluster, but I saw this cover performed live during this same tour and it was amazing. The crowd loved it.

  • I have a bootlegged copy of 'There is no God' in Paris 99. This song is uber on it!

There was immense energy from Billy during the whole song. A lot of a insane screaming :D

  • You might ask yourself

Why am I playing this shitty cover?

  • i lol'd

  • Wow this sucks

  • I can understand why Talking Heads fans would dislike this version, but you gotta remember that the Pumpkins have been doing these tease/jam covers since the very begining of their career. Rather than just copying the song identically, they change it around and throw it back in a differnet way. They did the same thing with 'Rock On' by David Essex on their 2000 tour and 'Transmission' by Joy Division in 98.

  • Exactly.

  • Jesus, this is awful. Billy Corgan just sort of sucks all the energy from the room.

  • Yikes. Love Once in a Lifetime, love the pumpkins, hate this with a passion. How to ruin a great song 101.

  • sweetnessicity

  • this blows....

  • heavy as hell.

  • haha htis is almost like Nirvana's Mrs. Butterworth

  • This is great,Talking Heads were all about being creative and that's just exactly what this is.

  • That cover is killer.

Whole new song, 2000 times better than the original.

    Don't bother arguing.

  • Well... No, as much as I love the pumpkins, I don't like their version of Once In A Lifetime.

It's a good jam song though.

  • pretty cool how the 'Heads version sounds fresh and this one sounds really dated. Thanks alot for ruining grunge MTVu.

  • I love the Talking Heads and loved the pumpkins. Yet my response to this is simply "JESUS WEPT"

  • Pure shit! They are way better at their own material. I guess since Billy can't come up with anything new he changes old songs so much to make people think it is something new of his own? Some classics just CAN'T be covered and this is a song that should stay with David Byrne and even he screwed it up a "few" times trying to change it.

  • what a shit cover.. I love the pumpkins but this incarnation of the band is pants

  • Awesome. I love there cover. But yea...it's a completely different song when they do it.

  • Uhh... what the?

Emo pumpkins version of what was a nice song.

  • this version is really different but it is so great!

  • way to ruin the song, fucking jackoffs.

  • Yep, they rewrote the song and pretty much improvises from time to time... but hey, it's a real barn-burner!

  • one word: HEAVY!!!

  • kinda kool but geez they totally rewrote the song
