Well in 1974-1978 periode, flyers were that way of playing hockey against other nhl teams. That was there visit card identity , but you must know that even there style (boxer) , in 1976 Montreal Canadiens got the stanley cup against the flyers (ever flyers were verry tough to play) ...So all means they were beat-able , with lot of determination ...

Again, I want to see Russians lead an NHL team to the Stanley Cup. It's the hardest trophy to win in all of sports. When the game got phyiscal, (which is just as much a strategic part of winning as skill....it's called wearing down the opponent) the Russians got scared as the Flyers checked them all over the ice. It wasn't the same polished system as the Jersey Devils trap, but it eliminated skating room and clogged up passing lanes. I think the Russians expected to get traditional NHL play in the neutral zone, and they paid for it. CSKA paid for it both physically and fundamentally, as the Flyers used their own "Iron Curtain" to wear them down.
