I loved everything about this song, still one of my all time favorites. But I've got to say the thing that brings this song into focus to me are those fantastic galloping, insistantly rolling drums. They created a melodic almost ambient song but driven and pushed along by that beat driving it into really moving song. One of my ALL TIME if not my actual all time fave songs for the open road! I made a mix with this & Chris Rhea's Texas back to back, perfect when I drove across the US!
Although I like a lot of this group's output - & this is my personal favourite - I would never claim that they strived for originality. This was their U2 imitation period but just check out the earlier '68 Guns' vids: It's like listening to The Clash emanating from beneath a bunch of Duran Duran haircuts.
I checked out the vid and O my word is there a resemblance. I totally see your point in originality. I keep listening to this song over and over and every time I listen to it; it sounds like im listening to Bono.
Man, I love this song. And they sound great live. Like many others here, for me this song brings back memories of simpler, better times. Great times...
This song brings me back to happier times. Back in the eighties. High school, no worries. No problems. My love is the flame that keeps on burning., my loves desire is pure ascension fire. Isnt that what he say's?
Under the anvil of the sun, Sweat like a train, I come, I come, My body to dust, Scorched by the might of the sun, Burning light, burning white heat, Like wildfire I sweat a fever, My body screams, Disintegrates in the heat, Our love is the faith that keeps on burning, I love to feel the rain in the summertime, I love to feel the rain on my face, Burnt on the stake, on a bed of fire, My body rises taking me hire, My loves desire is pure ascension fire, our love is the faith that keeps on burning

I have to say.... I listened to the song several times just to get the feeling back. I loved this song. I found myself unable to keep quiet and not clap towards the end. Oh for the feeling of loving the songs of our current music makers. The latest stuff is miserable whining of wankers. One must listen to the song to the end.....................
yeah the six song CD from '88. Not one bad track on it. The Alarm was born to be on a stage. all live versions are better then the studio ones. except one thing is better: Go see 'em live. they always "deliver"
Saw them in 1990 at 'Deep Elum Live' in Dallas TX. A small venue, which made it so good. Love their stuff.

The lead guitar sounds hardly a million miles from that of The Edge, as well.
Still, who cares? It sounds good, just like many post-Beatles bands sounded good.

Lyrics cont'd
And then I run 'til the breath tears my throat
'til the pain hits my side
As if I run fast enough
I can leave all the pain and sadness behind
I love to feel the rain in the summertime
I love to feel the rain on my face
I love to feel the rain in the summertime
