I saw the exhibit when it was here in L.A. (a gallery Beverly Hills, I think). I remember there being a "wall" of materials used for the film ("skin," hair, clothing, "foliage," etc.) that people could touch. I recall seeing much of what is shown in this film as well as a land strider (always one of my favorite creatures in Dark Crystal). ... About 2 years earlier, there was a huge Muppet exhibit with practically every Muppet ever made up to that time.
Fraggle Rock, Dark Crystal, Muppets... the world needs you now more than ever, Jim. But because we can't have you back, you'll live in our hearts. You've helped fostered a shining gem within my heart and I am forever grateful for you and the work you've done.
Henson Fans, get thee to NYC and see the Jim Henson's Fantastic World exhibit in its final weeks, until Jan. 16th 2012 at the Museum of the Moving Image. You will be so glad you did! I'm lucky to live right around the corner from it. I've gone 4 times!
This is my favorite movie of all time. It would have been amazing to see.
At the science museum they had the world of Jim Henson soon after Dinosaurs went off the air, but sadly did not include any Dark Crystal in the exhibit.
This movie seeded my imagination time and time again as a kid. It's like a beautiful dream I get to watch as often as I like.

Oh, I wish I had been able to see this! Sigh.... The Dark Crystal is one of the most beautiful movies ever. In my opinion, of course.
