Just subscribed to your vids. I've flown to RDG twice on training for my PPL. I'm flying out of Caldwell, so hopefully we can meet some time. Thanks for the vids, keeps the motivation going.
I just mounted the camera on a tripod behind the copilot seat. I am working on some other options. The tripod takes up to much room and blocks the seat from sliding back. If you do not have a fire extinguisher between your seats you could put the third leg of the tripod between the seats. That works well, but not in the newer planes.
Great video. Sorry I haven't watched and commented sooner. That whole RPM thing is interesting isn't it. I need to upgrade my camera. What are you using?
Thanks for the comment Rick.. I am using a Cannon HF s10. Don't judge the quality by the you tube videos. I have yet to find a good codec to use that doesn't degrade the original quality. The video from the camera is much nicer. I have a Cannon wide angle lens and a larger battery. The camera records onto flash and you can get about 3 hours of video on the internal 32gb card. I also have an external SD card providing an additional 32GB of storage. Its a great camera.
Get Ultra Video Joiner and encode the videos in H.264 MP4 format, work through the quality settings from good to superv, you will get a very small file size with really high image quality.
great to see you in the air, Mike! I also wrestled with the contrast issue. Ultimately, you have to decide which is the primary focus on a given video, inside or outside. Very hard to have both under certain lighting conditions. New cam looks like it's working great, though!
Hey, Mike! Long time no talk. Great job on the vid. Did you make it to the Greenwood Lake Airshow? Brought the little ones (5 and 3, now) and we all had a great time. Keep up the great work - both flying and filming!
Nicely composed. I have a feeling though due to the high contrast that you will end up zooming in closer to the instrument panel to reduce the difference in lighting. I noticed when it got brighter outside, the panel got harder to see. Get above a cloud deck and it will be even that much more contrast.
Nice panel BTW :-)
Also, glad to know I am not the only one to converse to myself like you did at the end LOL
Ding Ding Ding.. You win a prize for being the first to point that out Allen! "bo bo bo bdo bo booo" "that's the way you do it" "DO IT" HA HA. I crack my self up sometimes. As far as the contrast thing goes. I am still playing with some settings. I had XV color turned on which seams to add a bit of contrast. I can also add some filters in post production (final cut express). A work in progress as usual. Thanks for the comments and continued support Allen.

@rdfelty Canon HF S10. You should see the footage before YouTube get's its hands on it. It is much better.
