  • i like dieselpunk too ...much less air balloons much more airplanes

  • супер - да здравствует экипаж дирижабля "Офелия" -)))!

  • ah, steampunk. The New Gypsy. XD ROCK ON!

  • If you guys think that violin is sick you should see Nathanial's new one that lights up depending on how he plays.

  • I wish my parents were like them....

  • zydrate goes into the gun like a battery

  • Why does his violin have Zydrate on it?

  • @renkurasaki

wait was zydrate not blue? i have not seen that movie in a while.

  • @renkurasaki Awesome, a fellow appreciator of Repo.

  • I like the deep voice of the singer, i have a deep voice to and can sing alongbwithout ppl saying im off key or stupid stuff like that

  • OMG! I LOVE this man's deep voice, gives me a hot flush - phew!

  • This is one awesome band!

  • Gotta love how Nathaniel is clearly putting his soul into it, hes the man.

  • The whole awesomeness of Steampunk brought to sound - and I want that violin.

  • After hearing this song I wish that I was female to that I would have a chance of having Captain Robert's babies :)

  • love it love it love it

  • I WANT THAT VIOLIN!

  • Incredibly beautiful song! <3

  • wow really different very cool

  • Why do they call this Steampunk music? All I see is they're wearing funny costumes. The music is very Middle Eastern-influenced. Don't see what's steampunk about it, really.

  • @Enfeeblement The concept is steampunk.

  • @Enfeeblement If you look up the "story" of the band, and listen to more of their songs, then you will understand why they call it steam punk. Here all you get is the look with a different sound, but a lot of their songs are written with more steam punk influenced lyrics. I suggest airship pirates.

  • @Enfeeblement Might also wanna listen to Herr Drosselmeyer's Doll, its a kind of song that would have been played in the steampunk era, atleast when no kids were around haha

  • Finn von Claret is great as always. I'm glad I was able to see her perform at Metrocon 2009. That concert was so much fun, and she was so funny! I would imagine that most of their concerts, if not all, are that great :D

  • wtf

  • I want to know how the hell they modified the violin that way without totally messing up the sound. I have been a violinist for 23 years, and I know that the smallest thing can completely mess up their sound...even too much heat or humidity. So if ANYONE knows how they did this modification, PLEASE get in touch with me. PM me and I will give you contact info. I wanted to mod my violin, but without some guidance I really don't want to mess with it because I want to keep the sound pure.

  • @NeuroticNightmares07 It's a electric violin. You can buy them on ebay in various colors. The captain himself modded the violin by attaching lights and stuff.

  • One of my favorite Abney Park songs (along with Dr. Calgori's Secret Cabinet). But I'm confused - it's obviously live footage, but studio version of the audio. ???

  • @BadTableManor - Yes, technically it's a "music video" that's using live footage (in part, if you watch closely you'll see some of the footage isn't live onstage) rather than a "live video".

  • @maxmin Gotcha ;) At any rate, it's a great video, wish I could see them next time they're at The Edison. Happy New Year!

  • I wrote this to non-HQ version already...

I have loved this song since I first heard it, & then as I was sharing something about it in an email to a friend I thought I would share a YouTube video of it (so they knew what I was speaking about). So, I see this for the first time & am more impressed than ever with this band. I couldn't help but feel moved by the song & then I see this! It is rare to find a band so absolutely perfect for one's sensibilities both musically & aesthetically!

  • damn, i heard like two songs from Abney Park and i'm a bloody fan now!

The singer's voice is really .... hawt!

  • Damn... now I want to learn to play the Violin, just so I would have a chance of dreaming to play that awesome Steampunk Violin.

  • this is actually some badass music!

  • I had this song stuck in my head all day.

  • mmmm i want that violin..

  • I'm really not certain about this band. I'm a fan of the band 'Collide', which has a similar sound but isn't Steampunk themed, and also bands like Radiohead and A Perfect Circle, who have a similar ethereal quality, but I can't really find anything I'd be comfortable listening to for long periods. Just a little lacking. Definitely cool- as a fan, I didn't realize that there were bands producing SP music.

  • This video is like a dream. I was only ever familiar with their "Root of All Evil" song, but this one is beautiful.

  • This is like something out of every steampunk book OST.

The music you imagine when reading them.

    Fucking win

  • He has such a sexy deep voice - woooo ;-) Love it !

  • This is just so satisfying on so many levels.

  • I don't believe that MUSIC can be steam-punk, because steam-punk is more of an aesthetic style than a sound. Though the group definitely pulled off the aesthetic element very well.

  • @Zombinian Steampunk is an alternative history/universe. This would be something that would be popular (or fitting, alternatively) in their culture/universe, is the idea.

  • @Zombinian Aitamen is correct. And to elaborate, the music itself can take on a steampunk theme if the lyrics themselves refer to anything within that alternate setting Aitamen mentioned.

  • @chimeracomplex Excellent discussion gentlemen

  • @chimeracomplex I agree, the music certainly fits in with the fashion...it's the same of how we assumed of what would be played in clubs in the future, like in mass effect...it's just what we think would best fit in with the culture and fashion of whatever it might be.

  • Do the women spinning puke after this???? Just wondering

  • Love this, thanks for sharing. <3 Always a pleasant surprise to find really good new music :D

  • EPIC WIN.

  • Steampunk = Win.

  • this song rules, though from the few videos I've just watched, I feel like the lead singer over uses the whole whisper-voice thing

  • Steampunk 4 life <3

  • sounds folkish mixed with steampunk wear.

  • I was just wondering like, what is this?

    Nothing rude.

    I was just wondering

  • @ajb1290 fucking awesome thats what

  • @ajb1290 It is called steampunk, a genre that involves a victorian age and steambased machines. :)

Check it out on wikipedia, to example

  • @ajb1290 From what I understand of it, it is a take on an alternate history. Essentially, what if the modern industrial revolution had begun in the Victorian era.

  • The girl with the black hair, looks a little like Kate Beckinsale. Like in Pearl Harbor.

  • i think they have too much fun

  • This is an amazing song...

  • @Vissie no, its an amazing band!

  • i want to go see them now, especially at this club!

  • I love this band. Nathaniel (the violinist) is so fucking chill.

  • @WittyMonicker I got to meet him at A-Kon 21. Awesome dude. He's really laid back with an awesome sense of humor.

  • i like the contrast between the males dark slightly blunter tone and the females airy slightly hypnotic qualities together with the band it fit perfectly

  • @Vosij

I do agree about the vocals. The man is OK, nothing to complain about, but a strong female vocal would fit in just perfectly.

  • you lost me when he started singing..... the composition and setting are fantastic.... the strange blend of the ethnic styles is amazing. it seem such a shame the singer sounds so standard radio rock. let the lady with the lovely and distinct voice take lead and use him as a back up.

  • @Vosij Aaaaaand you absolutely suck for saying that. I'm not getting into a flamewar here, but I think everybody in this band is perfect with what they're doing.

  • @GodsDarkestNightmare sorry for not sharing your opinion, but i find your non input rather childish.... there are plenty of people out there praising their skills, i just though some honest, well thought out feed back would be a good thing. and if they are putting themselves out there i am sure they have heard far worse. grow up a bit "godsdarkestnightmare". btw, you suck for having a long, pretentious, emo-brat user name....

  • @Vosij I am not emo, in fact, far from it. But I will be the bigger person and drop this.

  • @GodsDarkestNightmare if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck... ever though you might just be in denial of how emo you are???

  • @Vosij There is absolutely nothing wrong with Robert's vocals.

  • @Coasterdude02149 why is it the fans of this band are so damn sensitive? or is that steam punk has already gotten to the point where if your not a follower your not welcome? but your right, there is nothing wrong with his vocals, they just don't stand out like the rest of the band....

  • @Vosij I don't think we're sensitive. I just think the breathy, airy quality lends itself well to the music. Your view is different and that's fine but I've seen other posts that border on the hateful regarding his vocals and that's not fair. Everyone is entitled to their opinion-maybe too many of us have seen the hateful comments before we've seen your opinion. I don't know. Being mainly a metalhead, I like the contrast from the loud, screaming vocals.

  • They're going to be at Project: A-KON on Saturday night, June 5th. I'm looking forward to it.

  • I hear this and I can't sit still.

  • does anyone else find it odd that in a steampunk world their music would be impossible, seeing as in steampunk, our technology would be steam based not electricity based. Or am i the only one that thought that?

  • electricity is present in the steampunk world it's just not prevalent. People in the Victorian era, which steampunk derives from, were very interested in electricity it just wasn't something everyone had access to yet.

  • I love steampunk♥

and I liked this music too^-^

  • this is very cool!

  • His voice gives me the absolute chills....ah...it's beautiful.

  • What a gorgeous video!!!

  • The first Song I heard of them and I think the best so far.

  • i just became a fan <3

  • There is nothing I want more than an electric five string violin, and that guy has one! Oh My Gods. Plus I love steampunk so much...

  • they rock!!

  • The violin part reminds me of the Klezmer style, nicely done.

  • Awsome song

  • Thanks for putting this up, heard the song on one of our local college stations and was hooked.

  • I'm not going to lie the vials on the violin are awesome looking...

  • @DimDevo They are actually old tube transistors.

  • @DimDevo I think those are teensie "lava lamps"

  • @cwmetzl If so, that has to be the most awesome instrument ever.

  • @whowantsabighug You used to be able to buy them at ThinkGeek.

  • @DimDevo Vials? I thought they were modded amp tubes o_o;

  • @DimDevo Damn straight

  • @DimDevo I think awesome is a slight understatement. lol!

  • I love these guys; amazing sound, amazing look and so original. Steampunk is beautiful! I too love the violin :)

  • Always high quality work Maxmin! These guys really are amazing and it was a pleasure seeing them at Convergence and even now still kicking!

  • Enchanting, it really is.

  • I really like this band but I think they need another guitarist (to free up the violin guy) and a drummer. At the very least another guitarist.

  • he needs to make a vid showing the insterments i think there so cool

  • Im in love with that violin

  • Awesome - just added them to my "albums for christmas: list!

  • Wow... Just wow... I mean, I was wiki-ing steampunk and well, one thing led to another, so I looked them up... And now... This is so cool!! :3

  • Yes I was also wiki'ing steampunk and ended up with this band. To be honest, it's not what I think steampunk would sound like. I don't really like it. *goes off to try some of the other artists mentioned*

  • can anyone tell me why abney parks music is considered steam punk? they sound so much more tribal than anything else. like world music

  • because its about steampunk things. I guess. I mean I wouldn't say that steampunk is the genre, the subject for sure, but maybe not the genre.

  • Their sound is considered steampunk but from a sky captain airship stance. If you want proper Steampunk I can reccommend Clockwork Quartet which is the more traditional victorian steam punk. Their instruments I must also add are all moded by themselves or close friends so you have the instrument basis of steam punk with them. This isn't the most convincing song of there's try Airship pirate. ^_^

  • well maybe its because of their clothes. In my opinion steampunk is a lifestyle and not a musicstyle

  • A "lifestyle"? Meaning what, you are only steampunk if you create anachronistic technology as a living or something?

  • not only it also means were those clothes from time to time beeing interested in that kind of technology. The instruments are not steampunk by the way ;)

  • I think they are, that said my interest in Steam Punk is new, but I have been around old stuff my whole life, their instruments bear a lot of similarities in style to the furniture, old clocks, etc I have seen. I think steam punk is still being defined as a genre, at least in the mainstream it is. It can be what its pioneers like Abney Park, want it to be. At least in my opinion as I said my interest in it is new

  • I think steampunk can be a lifestyle, but it's usually more of a hobby c:

  • FANTASTIC!

  • Awesome!

  • Oh good god, I think i've gotten my musical tastes re-aligned...

  • airships are so expensive...

    :(

  • Yes. And they are in the million dollar range (USD). Plus the cost of keeping them off the ground. And many companies don't make rigid airships, only non rigid (like the goodyear blimp). So even if you managed to muster up the millions of dollars it takes to keep one afloat, you can most likely only buy a modern-style one (not steampunk). The only way I can see a steampunk airship being possible is custom work, which is ridiculously expensive.

  • awesome awesome hehe ^^

  • My sister has been in an almost obsessive craze about this band for a while. Now I know why.

  • This is the most awesome thing I've heard in a long while!
