At first, I thought this game was similar to something like Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim, The Settlers or Civilization, then I realized it was more of a puzzle. Still a good game though.
I sure would like to see a first person version, demonstrating idioms like;
the forest builds the sauna, the sauna builds the barn, the barn builds the house.
or the wizard that during the one of many sieges of Olavinlinna where I've read, shook out the feathers of a pillow to land on the besieged ground as soldiers.
...and not to mention the Finnish Siula that has kept Suomi free despite attempts of the east to dominate her.
I was expecting an epic game where you could fight either as Väinämöinen or Louhi, with swords, magic and other awesome stuff. But instead, I got this puzzle "let's make a village" game. 8(
I did. and I suppose I'm one of the few Americans that have read the text of the Kalevala (and yes, I can pronounce Kalevala properly.... with the help of a friend from Helsingfors)
Thank you Patria, as it happens my GGfather emigrated during the attempted 'Russification' period. Although none of our family knew this until I uncovered genealogical information that led me to study the amazing history of Finland and her folkelore. All the best! :)
@calotono Then hold off :) Check out a few other reviews to see if there's anything you do/don't like that they've picked up on - if you're still unsure that is ;)
@sohbenji87 According to the storyline it's at a mystical land where they'll have the resources to become the greatest nation/tribe whatever :) The story was a bit odd and I honestly lost track of it compared to the gameplay ;)

@AppSpy Think it has a connection to the Bible?
Great review by the way I love all of them :D

@genparksnooze Oh? If it was a biblical reference I honestly didn't pick up on it :) And cheers!

@genparksnooze It's been a few years since I've read the Kalevala, but the end seems to echo the coming of a Christ figure, if I remember correctly.

Best of both worlds? Looks nice.

@GamersRemote Not so much best of both, just a strangely satisfying blending of the two :)
