i saw pearl jam last september in toronto, double encoure, last song they played this and neil young came out on stage and played with them. i was just standing their in disbelief for like 5 minutes
This song made me want to learn guitar. Not that I would ever be close, but this is a good example of the spirit of what music is supposed to do. Move you.
I wasn't there or back stage or partied with the roadies. But i can still enjoy brilliance when I see it and hear it. Keep rocking the free world for us all and for those poor bastards that carn't.
i was privileged to set backstage at the illinois state fair in 1985 and saw waylon ,jesse and neil ; my girlfriend had been a roadie for waylon and we partied with the roadies all day and night
The sad thing is that probably three or four among the crowd knows Neil's work, or he's impotance to the music world. Neil is a genius. I wish i was born 20 years before.
I see a girl in the night with the bady in her hands, under an old street light near the garbage can.Now she put her kid away, she's gone have a hit,she hates her life and what she's done with it.That's one more kid that'll never go to school.Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool.
i did some research on this song and what i could dig up was, this song was really an early grunge song (1989) the song was released) and from what i read of the single of this song the genre is Proto-grunge, its understandable because Neil young is the "godfather of grunge" so says his nick name, but yeah, from what i read thats what it is, fucking awesome song none the less :D rock on lads, they dont make music like this no more
@bengannonguitar Eddie, in his attempt at always being cool, looks like he's going to fall asleep. It's a ROCK SONG and needs to be ROCKED! That's what I meant by Neil knows how Rock n Roll should be played.
wow... did MTV realy play music like this? I mean... I can´t believe it,that gods of rock playd their music on MTV... right now it´s just a bunch of shits and i can´t watch it for more than few seconds
@RecklessHole at 1 time mtv showed nothing but music ALL MUSIC ALL THE TIME it wasent untill 90 or 91 the real world started then after that the music died
Incredible! Obviously Neil Young gives his seal of approval to Pearl Jam. I hope that Neil Young and Pearl Jam keep on rockin the free world for a long time to come.
And that's how you play a guitar solo. So much emphasis on technical skill these days, on hitting as many notes as you can as if you have to prove something. I hear a lot of this from guitarists who CLAIM to have been influenced by Hendrix, but obviously missed the point.
@451harri Oh yeah, finally someone said it accurately. A lot of, maybe most guitarists miss the general point of music - they want to play faster, stronger, harder, better, more perfect, and they miss thw whole point and message of music.
@GaveDrohl1 I wouldn't say most guitarists. And there's nothing wrong with showing off your skills. It's when it becomes the whole POINT of the music they make, that's when it starts to irk me. There are some guitarists (no names mentioned) who have built careers around that bullshit.
Look at Neil here - he's not showing off. He doesn't care how much skill he displays, he's just expressing himself through that guitar, and he clearly enjoys it. Just like the best of them.
@451harri Yeah, you're right. Not most. And I don't mean there's something wrong to be good technically, but some musicians just miss the point of music, by taking technique the most important way of music.
Once upon a time, award shows had great music. but this is beyond great. I saw this that night, and never got over it. One of the best rock performances ever caught on film. the end is true rock.
@tendraftsdeep : i don't know if you just saw mccartney play the abbey road medley on the grammys a couple nights ago, but that brought me here...these are two of the most amazing performances i've seen on TV...
Neil Young is considered the "Godfather" of grunge because of the mutual admiration between Neil and Peal Jam and Nirvana. Neil and Pearl Jam did a joint project which was released as "Mirror Ball." Eddie Vedder inducted Neil into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I'm serious, like 18 years later it's almost shocking that they actually let an unbridled act of rock n roll air on their big awards show.
Crap, Vedder's getting hammered on stage. Neil Young's like 45, and he got to be on there too!
They don't even air music on that channel anymore, let alone let a rock band play on their big awards show and just let them go out there and just totally go for it like that!
I dont think Ive ever seen Neil Young rock out harder than in this video. Hes clearly feeling the rock gods hard on this one. Great vid. Hes a classic
Very fitting that Neil should play with Pearl Jam being that a lot of folks consider him the god-father of grunge. I've been a fan of Neil Young's music since the early 70's. Pearl Jam has done some good music also, I'm just not as familiar with their music as Neil's.

this are rather scarce sadly but the one GOOD THING about YouTube
is that we can all get into our Time Traveling Capsules and go almost
anywhere back in time and appreciate great acts and songs most of us
