KEEP ON ROCKING IN THE FREE WORLD.......

  • Holy freakin awersome sauce!

    Epic tune, epic rendition.

  • Mike breaking his guitar... fucking awesome!

  • I think when Neil walked out, the MTV crowd went "Huh?" And then they played and they went, "Oh yeah."

  • Unbelievable!!!!! So awesome

  • i did some research on this song and what i could dig up was, this song was really an early grunge song (1989) the song was released) and from what i read of the single of this song the genre is Proto-grunge, its understandable because Neil young is the "godfather of grunge" so says his nick name, but yeah, from what i read thats what it is, fucking awesome song none the less :D rock on lads, they dont make music like this no more

  • @bengannonguitar Eddie, in his attempt at always being cool, looks like he's going to fall asleep. It's a ROCK SONG and needs to be ROCKED! That's what I meant by Neil knows how Rock n Roll should be played.

  • Neil to Pear Jam, "That's how it's done boys. Class dismissed." =)

  • @kevcarm101 Well not really, Eddies voice is so much more impressive even though Neil is a rock legend.

  • almost 2000 likes and just 4 dislikes... Keep on rockin!

  • the last time MTV broadcasted anything watchable. Thank you neil for just showing up to that show unscheduled and ready to plug in.

  • Neil Young kicks ass

  • @HighNflY The hell yes!

  • Pure Rock,fantastic !!!!!!!

  • I remember this. It was awesome.

  • wow... did MTV realy play music like this? I mean... I can´t believe it,that gods of rock playd their music on MTV... right now it´s just a bunch of shits and i can´t watch it for more than few seconds

  • @RecklessHole at 1 time mtv showed nothing but music ALL MUSIC ALL THE TIME it wasent untill 90 or 91 the real world started then after that the music died

  • Incredible! Obviously Neil Young gives his seal of approval to Pearl Jam. I hope that Neil Young and Pearl Jam keep on rockin the free world for a long time to come.

  • I remember watching this on tv when it originally aired.

  • And that's how you play a guitar solo. So much emphasis on technical skill these days, on hitting as many notes as you can as if you have to prove something. I hear a lot of this from guitarists who CLAIM to have been influenced by Hendrix, but obviously missed the point.

Look at Neil - he gets it.

  • @451harri Oh yeah, finally someone said it accurately. A lot of, maybe most guitarists miss the general point of music - they want to play faster, stronger, harder, better, more perfect, and they miss thw whole point and message of music.

  • @GaveDrohl1 I wouldn't say most guitarists. And there's nothing wrong with showing off your skills. It's when it becomes the whole POINT of the music they make, that's when it starts to irk me. There are some guitarists (no names mentioned) who have built careers around that bullshit.

Look at Neil here - he's not showing off. He doesn't care how much skill he displays, he's just expressing himself through that guitar, and he clearly enjoys it. Just like the best of them.

  • @451harri Yeah, you're right. Not most. And I don't mean there's something wrong to be good technically, but some musicians just miss the point of music, by taking technique the most important way of music.

  • Once upon a time, award shows had great music. but this is beyond great. I saw this that night, and never got over it. One of the best rock performances ever caught on film. the end is true rock.

  • @tendraftsdeep I agree! I tuned in just for this performance that night...was not disappointed.

  • @tendraftsdeep thats right old man show the kids how its done

  • @tendraftsdeep : i don't know if you just saw mccartney play the abbey road medley on the grammys a couple nights ago, but that brought me here...these are two of the most amazing performances i've seen on TV...

  • so good

  • Uh, yeah -apparently 3 execs from MTV's shite producing machine

came upon this clip and hit the 'dislike' button. Twatters!

Great bloody song and performance by the LEGENDARY Neil Young

and still going strong Pearl Jam. Artists today who write great songs like

this are rather scarce sadly but the one GOOD THING about YouTube

is that we can all get into our Time Traveling Capsules and go almost

anywhere back in time and appreciate great acts and songs most of us

    weren't alive for . = ]

  • Neil Young is considered the "Godfather" of grunge because of the mutual admiration between Neil and Peal Jam and Nirvana. Neil and Pearl Jam did a joint project which was released as "Mirror Ball." Eddie Vedder inducted Neil into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It is a shame what MTV has become.

  • GREAT FUCKING VERSION OF THIS SONG !!!!!!

  • ROCK 'N ROLL AT IT'S BEST..............

  • Que performance extraordinária do fantástico Neil Young,e do ótimo Pearl Jam! Neil Young é como eu digo, sensível,e ao mesmo tempo, forte e intenso!

  • I'm serious, like 18 years later it's almost shocking that they actually let an unbridled act of rock n roll air on their big awards show.

Crap, Vedder's getting hammered on stage. Neil Young's like 45, and he got to be on there too!

They don't even air music on that channel anymore, let alone let a rock band play on their big awards show and just let them go out there and just totally go for it like that!

  • Wait, so you mean to tell me that they used to let rock bands, like 5 guys with instruments and stuff, play music on MTV... live... really?

    Wow! Whoda thunk it?

  • ROCKING

  • Sooo good!!!

  • I just had an ... Eargasm!

  • Grande Neil Young! E grande Pearl Jam também.

  • I dont think Ive ever seen Neil Young rock out harder than in this video. Hes clearly feeling the rock gods hard on this one. Great vid. Hes a classic

  • Why i think this version is a bit slowwwwwwwwwwwwww?Nah never mind-Keep on rocking-still

  • Very fitting that Neil should play with Pearl Jam being that a lot of folks consider him the god-father of grunge. I've been a fan of Neil Young's music since the early 70's. Pearl Jam has done some good music also, I'm just not as familiar with their music as Neil's.

  • @nofortunatesonII Maybe you should check them out a bit more... You wont regret it.

  • When MTV used to mean something

  • this is absolutly a killer song and video. Neil just shreds the strings on this one. I also have the live version he did on Saturday Night Live with Crazy Horse. I have read somewhere that is the best live song ever. If you have not seen it look for it. Although i dont think it is here on youtube. I have it on a 25 yr SNL anniversary box set. He just blows the doors off anything i have ever seen. Just pure shredding.

  • This just gives me goose bumps. "You know this guy" Damn right I do! There will never be another like Neil. Although Eddie is a distant second.

  • Comment removed

  • Again, NEIL displayed his playing ability....Still, people say he can not play the guitar.....Just amazing......

Anyway, good video and Eddie loves Neil.........It will continue......

  • eddy vedders voice just doesnt seem like it could be real

  • I would love to see Neil at OWS!

  • what year is this?

  • @The40rozbojnikow watch the vid :) it says so at the end. 1993

  • one og the best if not the

  • the chorus/refrain of this awesome song would have made great background music for when Col. North had to testify for making absolutley the most correct decisions at the time....what year was this song written?

     multiplex it now Laurel/Landover

  • oh Free World...When will we ever meet ??

  • Yes! This is it....

  • I had this on a VHS tape for the longest time ! MTV was cool back then..

  • @Nightzstriker LOL, thats funny because I still do....just no way to play it anymore!

  • That last minute, that was MTV going out in a blaze of glory. Because its all crap now.

  • i wonder what niel said to eddie that made him get so annoyed -_-

  • i never understood why MTV didnt keep on rocking... in the free world.

  • @vascoernesto78 Totally mate - great call...rampant commercialism perhaps?

  • @vascoernesto78 I soooooo agree! MTV sucks now!!

  • @vascoernesto78 money.

  • @vascoernesto78 you sir, made my day

  • what year was this??? I'm thinking about 1994...1995 ....????? My two favorites in the world!!!

  • @liverlisa 1993

  • @Mr20nipples I was close!!! Thank you for answering xoxoxoxox

  • @liverlisa Nop(:

  • Heavy guitar distortion and a cacophony .... PERFECT !

  • This is too much. Pearl Jam is my hero. Neil Young is my hero. It's like a triathlon of awesome.

  • bravazo!!!!!

  • sooo fucking sick..

  • My stepdad's dad made that beaded guitar strap for Neil Young :-)

Everytime my old band did this song to close out our show, I always dedicated this song to grandpa Ray because he was friends with Neil Young!

    RIP Raymond Baird

  • @NathanArnoldCharging You should be very proud of that.

  • @NathanArnoldCharging Awesome!!! :=)

  • @NathanArnoldCharging cool story!

  • @NathanArnoldCharging what an honor

  • Now THATS how rock stars do it!!!!!

  • When did John Mayer get 3 accounts?

  • NEIL YOUNG ! The original " KING OF DISTORTION " !!

  • I have watched 2,456 versions of this tune. This one really thumps, especially the 30lb mikestand. It's the thumpingest version.

  • neil : he is the best gorundge full, its the original creation of the miusic for pearl jam and nirvana

  • Neil is BADASS!

  • Look at that POWERSTANCE!

  • anyone knows where I can download this, was this ever officially recorded/published/sold.....I hope for sake of LaddyGaGas of today :(

  • @culdarko listentoyoutube is pretty good

  • @SeahawksOwnNFCW no he didnt and your name is false sir

  • just amazing, they were having a hoot wish i had been there

  • limda musica, ótimos musicos...maravilhoso...endoidei aqui...kkkkkk

  • When a song like this still has as much venom today as when it was written, something is wrong with the world.

  • @JackoLantern007 More so. It has gotten more greedy, people are treated more like animals, democracy a commodity to be bought and sold.

  • Neil rocks the absolute shithouse out of that. . .

  • This is good. The myth is of course that Neil dived and no-one caught him. No-one respects age !

  • I'm a black male. This is some crazy white shit, but they were fucking jam'n.

  • @Sirkinney It doesn't matter what colour you anyone else is with music, music is raceless.

  • just jizzed my pants... twice..

  • Would it be unoriginal if I had those words carved on my gravestone? R.I.P. KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD!

  • Good old fashion hard played rock and roll baby the way its suposed to sound and be played. More songs like this today could save the music business today.

    LAD

  • this must be the best tv ever neil young and pearl jam together briliant .

  • AMAZING!!!

  • I got to see this on September eleventh in toronto! Incredible
