  • Well there is alot taken froum Bulgarian music.. But i got to say it is just copy. 1 to 1. Excactly the same!

  • SICK BASTID

  • come get some soul come party in bulgaria we are all the same

  • Ivo Papazov is the name of the band. Its a name - first name and family name

  • the guy with the best sliding technics

  • Great player

  • whats the name of the band? i cant understand it

  • @HiImJerry8 Read description

  • I love how Steve explains everything that he has on his mind, what a humble person, if everyone around was that humble, world had been a better place

  • Every producer has cables on the floor like this. Can't the builders ever plan more electricity plugs? :D

  • @MarkoRuzinOfficial There's some cables on the floor because this is just his bathroom setup for when he gets ideas on the can. j/k Real problem is there's no isolation room so the mic cables are going to a source on the inside. My guess anyway. Probably records acoustic guitars and vox over there or something.

  • I gotta say it, thank you comcast. I found this like 4 years ago on demand, been looking for it since.

  • "You can shred up and down forever, but to actually make something speak, with articulation is a very different thing" - this is why I don't compare Vai to other technical mind boring shred guys. He has a soul like all the other great guitarists, Hendrix comes to mind

  • nooooo, he does not just have a blue rocket bottle like, hanging there just for his voice does he? thats insane.

  • all of steves music is boreing

  • @RJK9X lol emofag.

  • @RJK9X go listen "for the love of god" or "bad horse", you may like it.

  • @RJK9X how can you say that you freak

  • Oh guy! He's a God!

  • Steve Vai uses pro tools!

  • Doesn't he look stoned?? lol

  • thats an excercise!?!?!

  • just look at his fingers OMG! now way i can reach that so easy

  • Check out the best Bulgarian guitar player, combining the modern guitar with traditional Bulgarian rhytms and tambour techniques - search for Angel Dimitrov!

  • So nice of some of the great players out there to take the time out to really explain what's going on in their music..Thanks Steve!

  • Steve Vai is really amazing, but at 6:13 he does a mistake:D UNBELIEVABLE! The Master himself!

  • un maestro de maestros....lo maximo

  • his exercises at 5:55 sounds better than most peoples songs.

  • i had a dream last night where i dreamed that vai was my guitar teacher. i woke up and for three seconds i was sure he actually was my teacher. then i realized it was a dream.... damn..

  • this thing at 4:10 is so hard to play. been trying to master it for a while... takes some time for the hand to absorb it.

  • 1:58 he's reallly good at snapping

  • Yngwie just plays scales up and down up and down. All his songs sound the same. Very boring.

  • It sounds like he was influenced by Jeff Beck and early Jan Hammer....

  • 3:54 It TAKES TIME to make the guitar speak. Geniuses like Vai are not only born. They work hard. I hope we all understand that and not give up at first time. Thanks Mr Vai, for keeping us motivated!!

  • HOLY CRAP! Watch this with the captions on. You will laugh your asses of. xD

  • even his exercise sounds good

  • Steve is a true guitar icon. I saw this very show when he toured the us in 07 at the pabst theater in milwaukee, still have stub too right next to pat methenys when he was also at the pabst in 08. Anyway, I met steve going to his tour rig with the band and got an autograph or course and had him also sign my stub. Incredible human being.

  • This guy is so good, so smart, so endlessly creative...much more than just a "shredder". Yngwie just plays classical scales. Vai is a composer in his own right.

  • @weircali Yngwie has composed for an orchestra so I wouldn't say he just plays scales but I'm sure Vai's orchestral compositions are more complex.

  • @finndave youre right... scales is a word used by musicians who dont know thier shit yet.... us vaguely more advanced players refer to what they are getting at... as modes

  • @superdome65 That's bullshit. Sure, when one is referring to something like Locrian or Mixolydian, but I don't know anyone who goes out of their way to say Aeolian or Ionian instead of major or minor. Not to mention there's no mode enharmonic to natural or harmonic minor. You make it seem like anyone who uses the word "scale" is somehow an inferior musician. Really, it just makes you sound like a tool.

  • @GuardianOfFate12 oh yah? then when you play the notes a,b,c,d,e,f,g over an Am chord, you cant just say, the minor scale fucktard, you gotta say aeolian, because you can play a,b,c,d,e,f#,g, and it still be a minor scale.... when in fact its called the fucking dorian scale. aeolian and dorian are both minor scales... same if you played a,Bb,c,d,e,f,g....thats also a minor scale. THEY ALL HAVE FLAT THIRDS.... but this one is known as the phrygian. get what im sayin? or was that too complicated?

  • @superdome65 Ha...wow. Hey dumbass, do you know what scale the aeolian mode corresponds to? NATURAL MINOR. Natural. Let that sink in. Ok, now, the Dorian scale is defined as a natural minor scale with the sixth scale degree raised. Meaning that it is an ALTERATION of a natural minor scale. You must be a bedroom musician, because if you actually got out and played, you would know how ridiculous your initial statement was.

  • Comment removed

  • @GuardianOfFate12 then you would also know that the chord progressions for both aeolian and dorian differ because of the dominate 6th in dorian and b6 in aeolian... thus making both modes different .... i do get out and play.. .thats how i know fuckhead........ and its not called a raised 6th if its based off of the ionian progression .. its just dominate.. it doesnt change... its like saying for harmonic minor its a flat 3rd 6th and raised 7th.. no.. its dominate..

  • @Guitarrosaurusrex

Phrasing is taking words (notes) and using them like a poet.

Steve is the master poet when it comes to melodies.

  • that melody is just awesome

  • what kills me is he takes new techniques that are as difficult as you can find and he makes it look easy.

  • Master Of Tone & Phrasing!

  • i agree

  • woow, that makes me feel rly proud that i am from Bulgaria :D

  • Anyone know what kind of reference monitors he's using?

  • Kn'K's I think

  • Kn'Ks? Wtf is that? Pfft, dude I was looking at Digidesign monitors....$2500-3500 per pair. I bet they ONLY work with Protools software. Hahahaha.

  • @Drucef They are KrK RockIT. I have the same.

  • @BryanRason agreed, I think you are right.

  • KRKS

  • oh man that little lick at about 4:13 jogged my memory. it runs all through the famous guitar duel with Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin in "A Love Supreme". when i heard those two when that album came out i was forever hooked...still at 60.

  • @pstock426 they covered coltrane's a love supreme?

  • Gotta love Steve Vai!

  • i totaly agree, phrasing is everything when it comes to soloing

  • caxo ma brulleeee!!!!

  • LOL are to talking about Vai?

  • i apoligize on behalf of all Texans. We aren't all ignorant hicks like newtuber, its jackoffs like him that give texas a bad rap

  • Billy gibbons? electricity?

I'm going to hazard another guess that your just taking the piss on this video and that your not actually like this.

If you really are omg. Omg, billy gibbons. Well done sir, that is the quote of the year there pardner

  • @newtuber1290 Like i give a fuck about being a "real Texan", I just hate feeling like I am lumped into any kind of relation or category with an ignorant fuck like yourself...

  • ...Sorry about what i said to newtuber, i hadda get personal :L

  • @rockon3691 Don't worry, i'm from BC and Bill Hicks has got your back.. now for the human race...

  • I doubt it's just that person that gives Texas a bad rap... Just sayin.'

  • @canucktheclown Well who the hell do you think cares about your opinion, just sayin

  • You obviously did or you wouldn't have bothered to reply... Just sayin.'

  • @canucktheclown Nope more just out of irritation of ignorant trolls such as yourself, but anyway you have wasted enough of my time, good day troll

  • It proves you won't stop replying. You are all the same.

  • OMG YOU ACTUALLY ARE! Ahaha i was only guessing. Omg stay away from texas?? Why would you want to be in texas? Unplug your computer and stick to the pigs. Do you know what nasa stands for by the way?

    Without googling it? :L

  • its called distortion......

im not a vai fan but hes incredibly skilled.

i honestly laughed at your comment, because it highlighted the idiocy of people who don't understand instruments "Get a strat and..." do you like country music? Im going to hazard a guess that you do whether im right or not. A strat, very original, we can tell you have absolutely no musical creativity by the fact you said that... Wait, we could tell that by what you said. ByeBye.

  • You're gonna "hazard"? WTF? Vai is a musical mumbler. He doesn't speak to you when he "plays". He yells and chatters. It's about communication, you ass. J. Christ, don't you get it man!!!!!!! Your boy.he ain't got no fell, you fool.

  • Like i said im not the biggest vai fan, but i appreciate skill. If his music doesn't speak to you thats your opinion, but that demonstration is all about phrasing - the melodic structure - thats where the real feel of a piece comes from, i'm no fool.

  • how can you call someone a fool when you're a half-whit moron yourself?

you can't TELL someone that their opinion is wrong, unless you're a fucking idiot... which... in this case... you seem to be.

  • That probably is a joint on the table (lower right hand side of screen). I mean he even looks a little stoned a times. He's eyes chink lol

  • OMG I THINK IT IS! CLASS XD

  • cala boca e toca fdp

  • Tosin Abasi rapes steve vai and yngwie. He made one of the most innovative/progressive albums of the year with his band, Animals As Leaders, and he went on tour with fucking BORN OF OSIRIS.

  • I'm sure Steve Vai could probably play that kind of cookie-cutter metal all day if he wanted to..

There is more to Stevie Vai's playing than power chords chugging in odd time signatures.

  • @ryen21 comedian

  • i love how he reduces shredders like yngwie to nothing in 3 seconds, when he says its easy to go on with scales at 3:47, hahaha true professional, vai rocks

  • Malmsteen and Vai have been known throw smack at one another.

  • @Gtrplyr1 doubtful. If they do, it's probably just joking around, they respect each other as musicians

  • @Valtchanovv Yngwie has excellent phrasing, as would ANY good guitars whether they are a "shredder" or not. Phrasing is the only thing the separates a great guitarist from a mediocre one. Vai has his style, Yngwie has another. Vai is clearly a superior guitarists in terms of overall dexterity and probably has greater depth of musical knowledge, but that doesn't reduce Yngwie in any way, since Yngwie doesn't just play scales/arpeggios up and down.

  • @mkpttn sorry, I just couldn't help but point out that you used Yngwie and phrasing in the same sentence? :S

  • @mkpttn yes he does

  • @Valtchanovv and he can speak while doing it!!!

i bet he could shit and pick his nose at the same time aswell!

  • @sunnyjim98 thats amazing man!

  • @Valtchanovv Yah Vai rocks, love him but brother what makes you think he was talking about shredders like yngwie. Yngwie composes like they composed back in Baroque era and those were all scales. Above all great compositions. Vai is out of this world, totally different world. I can't compare these guitar gods. They all have their own thing going on. Its a blessing that we get to hear so many different types of great guitarists out there. But of course that was your opinion and the above was mine

  • @bansteen i am just saying that vai can play like yngwie if he wants to but yngwie cant play like vai even in his best years

  • @Valtchanovv

Yngwies good years were a lot more clever and unique then people give him credit for. Nowadays he's putting out the same recycled garbage, but I doubt Vai could put out stuff like Yngwies good days. That said, I KNOW Yngwie could never do anything like Vai.

Both are great in their own separate ways.

  • @Valtchanovv He is not aiming for Yngwie man...Vai respect Yngwie and the other way arround. I know Yngwie is very repetitve and I find him quite boring...but Vai is not reducing Yngwie.

  • Cool

  • Who cares about the software, you are getting a free guitar lesson from one of the greatest guitarsist on the planet.

    Priceless.

  • bulgarian wedding music... never woulda known

  • That wasn't a weird time signature at all. That was 4/4.

  • he explaisn it simply haha heslike uhh it takes u forever to look at the fretboard and put every fuckin note in there when u wanna play every note on the guitar in a song like me

  • Steve Vai is what you get when you mix a hippy with shred guitar.

  • So steve uses pro-tools to make his albums? jesus christ.

  • the computer he's using in this video is mac. You can easily see the apple at 1:45

  • lol no relevance to what i said at all man

  • yeah why wouldn't he use pro tools?

  • I guess i just thought you know, that there was drummer, a bassist all that recording ya know? is that how it is? or is it all just created in protools? ive never used pro tools before.

  • Well pro tools is actually a program that you use to record multi-track songs onto. So for instance he would've brought a drummer in, mic'd up his kit, and recorded him. Same with the bassist etc... Then after he would then record his guitar over it. Or he could've had the whole band play it all at once, but from what he was saying it looks like he was making loops with some of the audio files, so it seems like to me that a lot of it was recorded separately and pieced together in pro tools.

  • Oh i see, thank you for explaining, See i was surprised because i thought, the drum, bass, and other instruments on the vai songs were all fabricated through a computer program after seeing this video, but i see thats not the case, thanks again.

  • steve use no mac, steve uses linux and pro tools!!

  • heys in the wrong key

  • sounds like jazz,,,

  • lol is that a joint on his table :P

  • Hahahaha I see the joint-like thing =P

  • steve vai uses a mac!!!

  • no way satriani says toung twister for ur fingers

  • he does say it when he is talking about his warm ups before shows, he talks about changing diminished chords and stuff like that around the neck

  • YES ! Bulgarian music is great Steve is even greater

  • He ventured into this because the only album F.Zappa ever owned was Bulgarian album with choir music. And, as we know, Zappa was God. He said that was the only interesting music he ever heard. I am no Zappa but I think Hungarian Gypsy music is even better than Bulgarian stuff. Hungarians over all are phenomenal musicians with some fantastic bands, time signatures are something they eat for breakfast. Eastern European folk music is highly evolved and it inspired many great composers in a past.

  • true what they say, Vai got a story, and lil bit of his soul and a crazy idea behind all of his songs

  • 03:47!!!!

    Apparently thats really easy!!!!

  • lol he mentions Ivo Papaszov, you should check it out.....he's right, they are completely out of their mind!

  • ive been told his guitar is the jem555, but i've read forum on a website that says that the jem555 sucks, so is this really the guitar he uses?

  • listen to me. i'll tell you the truth.

playing ibanez jem 7v and jem 555 is a HUGE difference.

jem 555 is a jem with dimarzio pickups. and that's it. it's made in korea, while the jem 7v is made in japan (that's like comparing squier and fender usa)

jem 555 does not have a tremolo system like jem 7v (jem 7v has an egde pro floating tremolo, which is better, the string NEVER get out of tune)

and the guitar body is made of one piece wood in jem7v, while in jem 555 is three pieces

    and the price ofc

  • great response thanks a lot, no joke, im just looking for the right instrument to get thank you.

  • anytime. if you want to get a better info on guitars, visit harmony central. type harmony central and the guitar name in google, and you'll see what comes out

  • awesome

  • I am bulgarian

  • Amazing, your a god!

  • Haha , bulgarian wedding music isn't the only thing musically that goes on there, there is the bulgarian womens choir, they are amazing.

  • Yeah.

  • He reminds me Wilson from House...

  • szymon5, LOL so true!

  • haha...

he reminds me of a guy called steve vai .. you know him ?

  • ditto

  • Yes !!! Both in face and voice !!! :D

  • Amazing. Very influential.

  • this is an awesome video, pm me if you can find any more. It's so interesting to hear how he creates all these sounds

  • i think vai did too much acid with zappa back in the day.

  • i think its mainly because of alot of the things he studies and/or practices.

  • 1:14 less talking more playing

  • Less talk more rokk.

  • Thats the one

  • nahh we no wat his playin is like...... its fuckin quality......but its nice to hear the reason behind wat hes doin from the man himself.

  • I know, but it's like 10 seconds real world time, to load 3 seconds of video for me. Sucks to live at home in the basement playing World of Warcraft eh?

  • fair play

  • No he didn't... Listen to it a bunch of times in a row. He doesn't really.

  • Back track is too loud over his live guitar.

  • is that mic a trion 8000?

  • It looks like the Blue Bottle mic.

  • lol why did you get a thumbs down for that question?

  • does steve vai record his guitar through his amp? or is all his tone the effects built in his computer???

  • @fhdjskal I almost said there's no way he' use plugins, but they do have the Eventide Anthology for Pro Tools HD so you never know.

  • i hear some joe satriani cause of his legatto :))

  • Can you even define pretentious?

    Fucking idiot.

Complete wrong use of the word, good job.

  • His voice sounds just like that of Wilson from House!

  • he kinda looks like wilson too, but with long hair :P

  • Does anybody know what Mac stuff Steve is using here?

is that an iMac? also what keyboard would that be,

    Thanks

  • Why does the keyboard matter?

  • i just dont know much about the older mac stuff thats all, just interested

  • hahahahahaha try harder

  • He's married. >.>

  • lol saying vai is gay just proves that you've never seen fred on youtube before.

  • amen to that, u pretty much sumed it up :)

  • wow im glad all these solo guitarists like vai, satriani, petrucci, gilbert and buckethead exist because im not 100% on most metal and i hate mainstream, i just love awesome guitar

  • im probably just simple but i found this soooo boring
