"this might not seem like much" ? this is incredible, amputees are still walking around with pirate hooks. these guys are doing a great job, Funding approved in my book!
@MadCowpat They wouldn't be wearing the glove. It's just a motion capture glove being used by the demonstrator to show the dexterity of the arm and hand. Naturally this prosthetic will be connected to the user and controlled by their thoughts with some sensory feedback.
imagine the future market for robotic arms... i hope the future is like deus ex and i hope that if i get a augmented arm for whatever reason, i can get like a touchscreen computer built in and a built in watch... it would be so awesome! and i wouldnt have to worry about getting into fights, because if i do, having a big metal arm smashed into your face will hurt quite a bit xD
@MrWaeseL It's hardly "near-natural" when you compare it to the human arm, but in comparison to previous devices this looks pretty outstanding. I'm especially impressed with how much the user can control the amount of pressure placed on the objects grasped, and the degrees of freedom in the joints. All they really need to develop now is a feedback system to help users determine when to ease/tighten their grip on something. From there it's just gradual improvements to make it more "natural."
@TafkaNido Oh but I fully agree. I'm just saying that calling it 'near- natural' already just cheapens the actual scientific accomplishment with marketing talk
In the name of empowering cripples we will develop technologies that only augment the destructive capability of man, and in the name of protecting our children we will censure and keep information away from the general public.
HELL YES ! FUCK YOU CONSPIRACY NUTS ! I DONT FUCKING CARE ABOUT SKYNET ! I WANT ANDROIDS ! I WANT CYBORGS I WANT FUCKING METAL GEAR ! WOOOHOOOO ! AMERICA FUCK YEAH
@chabi3000 Lol, I'm in complete agreement with you bro. It's pretty amazing that technology is at the level that it is, and it's only going to improve.
@CuervoBlack06 The best method is to create photosensitive and photo producing input and output nerves.. A machine brain interface can then be created.. this way there is no rejection as with wires.
Monsanto and IRobot were discussing it at a military robotics conference.
@DigitalGhostO I'm pretty sure they'll use that new surgery called Targetet Reinnervation. Look it up. But who knows it's DARPA maybe they'll make biber optic nerves or something.
this willl help people who have no arms be able to fap

@DigitalGhostO By the nerves that are still in the chest near the shoulder or hooking it into the brain and controlling it that way.
