  • this willl help people who have no arms be able to fap

  • what is it called?

  • "this might not seem like much" ? this is incredible, amputees are still walking around with pirate hooks. these guys are doing a great job, Funding approved in my book!

  • looks like Deus Ex is becoming a reality.

  • wow this arm is fast, this is cool, these darpa guys sure do build cool stuff even tough their evil ^_^

  • i want that so i can do a titty twister

  • next thing you know theyll have retractable blades or an arm that transforms into a minigun...

  • now lets see it on a human shoulder... please?

  • I definitely asked for this...

  • How would someone with no arm be able to wear the glove?

  • @MadCowpat excellent question

  • @MadCowpat They wouldn't be wearing the glove. It's just a motion capture glove being used by the demonstrator to show the dexterity of the arm and hand. Naturally this prosthetic will be connected to the user and controlled by their thoughts with some sensory feedback.

  • imagine the future market for robotic arms... i hope the future is like deus ex and i hope that if i get a augmented arm for whatever reason, i can get like a touchscreen computer built in and a built in watch... it would be so awesome! and i wouldnt have to worry about getting into fights, because if i do, having a big metal arm smashed into your face will hurt quite a bit xD

  • @jay3130 if the future is like deus ex... be prepared for the NSF, purity first, sarif industries, and a lot of protesting and riots

  • DARPA, military always kicks nuts!

  • Who else hopes to replace their arms with augmented ones in the future!?! :D

  • Came here for adam jensen

    Satisfied

  • I cant tell you how happy I was to come here, and see that the top comments were Deus Ex comments.

  • Comment removed

  • Does this guy think we are all idiots?

  • I think the future is going to be like deus ex

  • Darpa Ex

  • "At section 9, we aim to please."

  • @attorneyatnaturallaw

Ghost in the Shell is that close I see.

  • I'LL NEVER STOP COOKING

  • It's not the end of the world...

  • Bionic Arm.....ACTIVATE!

  • brb cuttin arm off.

  • My vision is augumented.

  • Just wait into they make these into fully controllable animatrons and we can fight to the death. Without actually dying!

  • You could punch people quite hard with this thing....hehe. I'm such an asshole :3

  • If you want to make enemies, try to change something.

  • Too bad this will end up being used for killing machines rather than helping people.

    : (

  • FUCK YEAH TRANSHUMANISM

  • So, the question that's in everybody's mind: Does this arm give me super-human strength?

  • I never asked for this...

  • New lets see him unscrew the bottle cap with the index finger and thumb while gripping the bottle with the other three fingers.

  • YOU'LL NEVER FIND THEM

  • i cannot imagine how much it cost to build that

  • that's cool but hardly 'near-natural'

  • @MrWaeseL It's hardly "near-natural" when you compare it to the human arm, but in comparison to previous devices this looks pretty outstanding. I'm especially impressed with how much the user can control the amount of pressure placed on the objects grasped, and the degrees of freedom in the joints. All they really need to develop now is a feedback system to help users determine when to ease/tighten their grip on something. From there it's just gradual improvements to make it more "natural."

  • @TafkaNido Oh but I fully agree. I'm just saying that calling it 'near- natural' already just cheapens the actual scientific accomplishment with marketing talk

  • Riots in the streets today.

  • ......:O

  • I am cutting my arm off so I can have one

    brb

  • My vision is augmented.

  • Powered by Sarif Industries.

  • I'd trade my arm for one of those.

  • In the name of empowering cripples we will develop technologies that only augment the destructive capability of man, and in the name of protecting our children we will censure and keep information away from the general public.

    What a shame.

  • Corporations have more power than the government.

  • brb cutting off my arms

  • I never asked for this...

  • >implying there's not one or two soldiers or agents running around with this kind of shit now

  • I would like to order 2. with swords attached to them please.

  • Let me know when these become commercially available with tactile feedback. Then i'll chop off BOTH my arms just to get these!

  • Deus Ex here we come..XD

  • HELL YES ! FUCK YOU CONSPIRACY NUTS ! I DONT FUCKING CARE ABOUT SKYNET ! I WANT ANDROIDS ! I WANT CYBORGS I WANT FUCKING METAL GEAR ! WOOOHOOOO ! AMERICA FUCK YEAH

  • @chabi3000 Lol, I'm in complete agreement with you bro. It's pretty amazing that technology is at the level that it is, and it's only going to improve.

  • Think it gives good handjobs?

  • I think this is very nice, great control and dexterity, I mean it's awesome

  • Omg why hasnt this been tested yet, thats the best robotic arm outhere

  • Just a sec. If the person dont have an arm how can he control this arm?

  • @DigitalGhostO By the nerves that are still in the chest near the shoulder or hooking it into the brain and controlling it that way.

  • @CuervoBlack06 The best method is to create photosensitive and photo producing input and output nerves.. A machine brain interface can then be created.. this way there is no rejection as with wires.

Monsanto and IRobot were discussing it at a military robotics conference.

  • @abram730 I think Darpa is working with using Fiber Optics and connecting them to the nerves so they can communicate with the prosthetic.

  • @CuervoBlack06 fiber optics carry light.

  • @abram730 I know but that's what they said what they were working with involving the nerves and this arm.

  • @DigitalGhostO I'm pretty sure they'll use that new surgery called Targetet Reinnervation. Look it up. But who knows it's DARPA maybe they'll make biber optic nerves or something.

  • @DigitalGhostO Sorry for that terrible spelling

  • OMG Real FMA Automail !!!!

  • @animeninjayaya omfg your right. this is amazing

  • Can flip someone a middle finger with that thing

  • Augment my arm. Now.

  • Soo..... where do I sign up to guinea pig this?

  • we are the borg.

  • Amazing.

  • The year is 2011. It is a time of great innovation and technological advancement. It is also a time of chaos and conspiracy...

  • @Spartan2801 So psyched for that game...

  • @Spartan2801 blahahahaha, win xD

  • @Spartan2801 I never asked for this

  • @Spartan2801 Hahahaha you got sent here by Deus ex too didnt you?

  • my arms are augmented.

  • shut up and take my money

  • btw thats an aquafina bottle lol

  • THE coolest thing ever. Ghost in the Shell stuff. So many people will benefit.

also, these things are gonna touch so many genitals. totally sweet.

here's the article on brain computer interfaces like what will be used here

    sciencedaily com/releases/2011/02/110218142440 htm

heres the link to the fda fast-tracking

    popsci com/science/article/2011-02/darpas-brain-controlled-robotic-arm-could-be-available-just-four-years

    put periods in those addresses

    petenowak2000 is the man

  • omg wtf bbq!

  • Amazing.

  • The LA Times is reporting that the FDA has fast-tracked approval for the DARPA arm and its implanted brain-machine interface.
