Unkind and inaccurate to call them a ripoff. It's just that their musical influences are very clear and that makes music that inevitably sounds 'familiar'.

This is a perfect example. It sounds exactly like it could have been released in 1986-87, which is not a bad thing, just not ground breaking.

On accents; I believe people usually sing in a neutral way as pattern recognition and speech are controlled seperately by the brain. An accent is a tune and to sing a preset series of notes with an accent would mean you weren't following the notes surely? That would make for some unusual 'covers' though it might be fun :D
