close-quick arms attack is typical Minang pentjak, it rarely rely on kick to attack. As you see Master Eric are using unique Minang Pentjak's pant with splay cloth between his thigh. It guarded player from enemies kicks or prohibited him from using high kick...that's why Minang Pentjak are excellent in it hand style

well, all these martial arts were create to kill. So the effectiveness is depends the person and situation. But as far as i know, silat can fight standing, middle, and ground. What you see in this video is just a little bit ground fighting. Btw nice video guru krug, it's happy to see a US person loves our silat.
