Fall back to a haiku, sort of. Thanks Clay. My most recent trip was definitely on the fresh and breezy side... all the better for clearing the head after a night on the Adnams!
This just captures it perfectly. I love camping, but am slightly ashamed to admit I have recently succumbed to the luxury of an airbed instead of the meagre camping mat I used to cripple myself with. Must be an age thing. :D
Great poem! *grin* My husband and I have learned that our 'ruined by rain' astronomy camping trips are some of our sons favorite vacations with us. ;)
I know what you mean! As soon as I go camping, it seems to rain. I keep hoping though, and the children don't seem to care too much. Thanks for listening, for commenting.
This one is so fun Mark! Makes me want to slip on my old galoshes and go puddle jumping this instant (it is storming by me).
I'm now thinking of picking up my old tent and going out camping soon... in my back yard even. It has been a while since I've had a funny, silly, chilly, soggy, easy, nippy, flappy time all at once and it is overdue. A joy to hear/read.
Ambivalence - a good camping term... can be great, but I struggle to enjoy it when it rains or gets too uncomfortable... as it can! Glad to make you smile - cheers to that.
Great to celebrate the lighter side! I do do some gloomy poems, but not too many. I think they'll be one on YouTube soon. Thanks George, I'm glad to entertain where I can.
Delightfully vivid! Makes me want to try camping as a grownup, and have more of the cheery breezy, instead of the seemingly invariable drippy/boggy scouting adventures that I remember.
I definitely tend towards the cheery (not too) breezy end of camping, but have served my soggy time too, too much. Just back from a breezy festival weekend, glad I'm still a camper!
Billy can is a type of pan, black is from the fire... sorry I ended up using camping jargon - something I usually try to avoid! Good to hear you smile - cheers DoorsChick
Thanks Sam, I'm always glad when someone gets something they like from my poetry. Most of my poetry is directly from life, it's great to be able to share this way. Cheers to you, Mark.
It's the stars as much as anything, gathering under the stars. I love it... then it bloody rains again. Cheers Santiago, perhaps you'll give it a go sometime...
i have a pickup truck that the manufacturer makes a canvas tent over for. We havent been camping in years. This poem makes me want to go sometime, if we could fit it into our schedules. Hey the sky locally has been spectacular lately. Hope you are getting out and using the new scope. Camping is a perfect time to do it. Just dont stare into the bonfire for too long while stargazing, lol.
I've just done that with an old vw pickup - built a frame and fitted a canvas cover, added side to side to front to back mattress. We're just back from our first trip... fantastic! (Kept the rain out too!)
Well thsi took me back to my scouts days, LOVED camping, despite the cold haha! Hopefulyl when I can save enough money Im gonna go again sometime, pick a spot and vanish for a week or two, fantastic!! Loved this!!
Great to hear, thank you. I've just converted an old vw pickup into a canvas-backed camper, taking it today for its first outing (to a music festival). I used to drive an even older vw campervan, which was great, so am glad to get back in the groove. To fall onto a comfortable mattress at the end of the day will make a real change from an airbed that always seems to have a slow puncture!
... off to a festival tonight... forecast for tomorrow: rain... typical! Camping, eh?! Cheers Kabuki, good to hear from you, thanks for leaving a comment.
Hey man, I love the way you get so into a subject. You're words are like a river through my soul.

May I borrow your breezy idea, Dashpoet?
Camping is cheesy
Socks and shoes and sweat
can get so whiffy;
N.B: I had a lovely time camping this summer.

It does seem to be the adults who mind most the rain... the children are much better at just getting on with it... a lesson there I guess!
dashpoet 2 years ago
Never got on too well with camping. Too much rain and not enough tent. Liked the poem.

Another smile-inducing piece :) It was so uplifting to come across this on a rather bleak and leary Sunday morning. 5*
