nice, i finally understand how this works. thanks :D i never really understood why it had to do 99 damage, i just kept on restarting my runs if i couldn't get cloud to do 99 damage :s
that was good dude. It took me like four trys to beat this materia keeper and my characters were all level 23 at first i had vincent With red XIII and cloud but that was a mistake as his limit break has a move where he casts fire and that heals the materia keeper so what i did was bring barret into vincents place and i used cloud more mainly health and defense also trine on my enemy skill helped alot so im glad its done but that was serious skill.
Whoa, nice man! This is one of the hardest normal bosses in the game when you kill them in normal way, and now you do it in less than one minute. Of course it took you a lot of time to do this.
I'm trying to do the exact same thing he did, because my Cloud isn't powerful enough to do 99 damage...and this is a ridiculously hard task! So I'm trying the Cait Sith + Tifa strategy, but that requires a tremendous amount of luck...
Nope, I'm not. PC Version. Not an Emulator. Lots of differences between the PS Version (Which I would be using, had I been using an Emulator), and the PC Version. If you did some research before making dumb comments, you wouldn't look so stupid. :)
Oifikzzy60: That's because Materia Keeper is Stilva's big brother :P There are Stilvas in FFVII too and they look exactly the same, just a bit smaller.
Nice trick! I didn't know the 7777 trick worked even on enemies... I have a little question: do you always run from random battles? Are you planning to finish the game fighting only the very necessary?
Yes, I always run from random battles, except for the ones I plan on fighting... such as against the 3 x sneaky steps in the Cave of Gi, and the Bombs on the way to North Corel. I fight these because I need something they give me (usually either a stolen item, or an enemy skill).
guys, most of u do not understand that this is a speed run, and the time is the most important thing, belive that do that in the way he did it is much harder than do it in a normal way... but is much faster too
you study this game way way way too hard. like breaking it down to some kind of science. well at least this one was really friggin fast....since speed runs in rpg's seem to be an oxymoron. the lucky seven thing ive done a few times but its pretty rare
You're right, we study the game way way way too hard, but that's what you gotta do if you want the best result. The speed run discussions have been going on for almost three years, but we've finally come to end now. Hopefully.
Anyway, nice to see this video, Farringa, even though I've seen this happen countless times myself. I must have spent at least 12 hours fighting Materia Keeper to find a strategy that works without someone getting killed. Yes, this is Garland :)
It took hundreds of restarts over several hours, over the course of 3 days or so (the days were spread out over a couple months... havn't played much lately). Not only that, I redid segments 46 (right after the Cave of Gi) through 47 like 3 or 4 times, to change equipment setups.
Materia Keeper has 8,400 hp. If you do 99 damage to him, he has 8301. Poison does 262 damage... he is damaged by poison twice, putting him at 7777 hp. When an enemy has lucky 7's for HP, everything they do is worth 7777 hp... including poison. So he dies.

Thank you.
This battle was very tough, and took a lot of time to complete. 250+ restarts, at least.

:'( That won't work in European PS1 version... And How the hell Trine only did 450 dmg?? it does like 900 to my characters...
Dusk285 3 years ago
Sadness. Give all your characters tranquilizers, and they take less damage, but your limit bars fill up slower.

This boss and that dragon that popped outta that wall were so frustrating to beat.

A beautiful fight. I guess this is the kind of segment that took a lot of time to make cause of the randomness of damage given (Tifa's attack).
Maxelya 4 years ago
man, how can you do damn rpg speed run? rpgs are about building your characters. So I say, you're great for doing this.

I'd like to see more of these speed runs. It's better than reading the FAQ, and I don't actually have to play this game anymore.
