  • This rant by McKee reminds me of something my great Uncle George Bernard Shaw observe: "If it wasn't for sex, men and women would have killed each other off long ago."

  • Has he become a stand up comedian?

  • I took a class from Mr. McKee in LA right after he had written a book about screen writing in the 80's. One thing you can say about him is that his stories are interesting, just like this little rant. He has unlimited wit so the stories flowed about writing which was interesting to say the least.

  • The book is a golden piece of work. Read it without thinking about learning some things about screenplay... read it having it mind that it's devoted to everything that's related to STORY, not just for movies or tv, but for literature, and last but not least, life itself...

  • @bregowine - Indeed. It's a book that anyone, despite their area of interest, should read.

  • misandry

  • A movie where "4 good-looking guys learn that all women are shit"? Sounds like Fight Club.

  • Good call.

  • No, "Fight Club" would be "2 good-looking guys learn, in some bizarre post-Freudian nightmare, that one is actually just a metaphor for the other's repressed manhood."

  • @sosiopat There weren't four main characters in fight club who learnt women were shit, in fact, if you watched the movie they pretty much said men had lost direction, if you also pay closer attention, you'll notice the ending involved one of the main characters holding the hand of the only main female character.

  • @Shadeprint It was sort of a joke. But McKee's "man-hating-movies" are about more than "all men are shit" as well. Even though Fight Club (a movie I've seen at least 20 times, and a book I've read twice) has subtext (the basic theme being to let go: of ego, of possessions, of control, in order to live fully), the things they say explicitly about women seem to contradict McKee's point.

  • @sosiopat That was a knee jerk reaction to your comment to be honest, I gathered it was another typical senseless Youtube comment, I never noticed any sorts of references against women in the movie, but I've heard the book is a lot better (As in most cases) & may delve deeper into the characters views.

  • @sosiopat One movie, you stupid fuck.

  • @kreepeemann One movie, my stupid fuck, what? :\

  • Precisely true. Lifetime: TV for idiots.

  • Wonderful rant.

  • Haha! So true!
