  • Time for change? This from a Unionist Party that has refused to give Scotland a vote on Independence?

A Scotland free from Westminster - now that would be a real change!

  • The Con-servatives, we all know the three main parties are puppets of the EU, they are all part of the same team, putting on a show to fool the public, these ppl make me sick. Where are UKIP or BNP in these TV debates? This TV debate is yet more proof that the mainstream media are controlled by the EU.

  • So in a sense, it is a longterm strategic vote, even if they do not actually win this election. But one thing I am sure of is that a Tory government is the absolute worse of 3 bad options and would be devestating for the vast majority of good, honest hard working people and their families. I urge people who struggle to get by to ignore the corporate propoganda that is Murdochs' The Sun and vote for ANYONE else but the Tories. It is in YOUR INTEREST to keep them out. Trust.

  • Personally the Lib Dems are not my ideal party. But they are far better then both Conservative and Labour in terms of how there policies would effect me, my family and the country as a whole. They also have been gradually increasing each election their share and history shows it is possible, over a long gradual period, for a third party to push another out. If this only happens in 5 more elections it is worth it for the change it would bring. Then you could actually vote with your heart.

  • prepare for government! Seriously, can you tell me what is different with the libdems? I see nothing except wishy washy liberal iseas and much much more PUBLIC SPENDING. Any jackass can do that.

  • Public spending really is not the massive issue the Con-Servatives and their propaganda arms of Murdochs news corp are telling you. The debt is at an extremely low rate of interest thus minimising future burdens assuming the country recovers at some point. Revenue is down and costs are up due to unemployment. And obviously bank bailouts cost a fair bit. But this isn't apocalypse and was largely necessary. To cut now could potentially halt any recovery or make it longer. The tories are wrong.

  • @AFXE

"The debt is at an extremely low rate of interest"

The interest on the debt alone cost us £35 billion in 2009, that around the same we spend on the armed forces to defend the country.

Our children and grandchildren are going to be paying off the debt he has amassed, the sooner he is shown the door, the better.

  • how old are u AFXE? U sound like ur 16. I think u will find that public spending and debt IS a rather big issue. U will find out what this means in the real world no matter who wins the general election.

  • A spell of the Lib Dems would be enough to finish us off, they are the only party after all that want no immigration controls, even the most backward dirt poor hell hole countries have tough immigration rules, but not in la la liberal land.

I remember a Pakistani liberal ripping the party apart for it's weak immigration policy that lets people come here and then not westernise themselves & how it leads to radicalism. He called the party members cretins & they applauded him. Says it all really.

  • @failzzee

You're totally wrong. They do want controls, they want a proper points system and they want to make sure legal migrants speak english, are willing to work and pay taxes and would be committed to this country. They also offer them easy routes to citisenship as long as they earn there way. I think you should get the facts from the source not from some random person.

  • @oblivionuk

They also propose reforming the electoral system to proportional representation so that in future elections votes arn't wasted if they arn't for the big 2 dominant parties. Such a break of the undemocratic nature of the current system would I believe usher in a new political era where many voices can be heard and people can stop voting for the lesser of the two evils or not voting at all as is currently the case.

  • @oblivionuk

If you are therefore not very well off then voting Tories is not in your interest at all. It would only be in your interest if you ran a large business or had large wealth or/and lots of property. Labour ARE better then Conservatives at protecting workers rights and interests and limiting their exploitation but are only SLIGHTLY better. Abit more better is the Lib Dems, with their fair tax policy reducing taxes for the lowest earners.

  • There needs to be electoral reform so peoples votes can be better represented (such as a proportional representational type of system) as well as greater power given to local communities to make collective decisions. These are the first and neccessary steps if this country is to continue its long history of gradual progression towards greater democratic control of our government and our lives. We are still far from having such freedom and political autonomy regardless of the current discourse!

  • It's a shame the political system is so stagnant where a majority do not vote, and then a large proportion of those that do tend to vote for the lesser of two evils believing, quite rightly due to the first past the post system, that there vote for any other party would be a waste.

I think it is a crying shame and it's UNDEMOCRATIC. This system has one party: the capitalist party, and each election we choose which faction to run Westminster whilst the same corporate interests run the country.

  • wompus111:

I agree, the Tories WILL make life marginally more difficult for the majority of working people in this country then a Labour government. They are a party for wealthy elite interests so don't let their rhetoric fool you. Economic crises are an inevitable part of the capitalist system, because Lab and Con are supportive of the same system they are both prone to similar instability. Labour just happens to protect the average person a little bit more then Conservatives will.

  • Crap vid,Tories will be only slightly less awful than the socialist, got no choice really.

  • The sad part is that having suffered 12 years of Labour treason, 12 years of watching our nation be deliberately destroyed. 12 years of policy being made by corporate paymasters. 12 years of watching our freedom & rights being hacked to death. 12 yrs in which the British have become 2nd class citizens. After all that the alternative is what? Is it more corrupt government, more leaders who take backhanders from criminal multinationals, is it more traitors who sell us out to EU communism?

  • CON servative is this the best this country can offer up as an alternative to la bore? I think not.

  • Vote BNP!

  • Who the hell vote for these idiots? Different party, same Government!

Change change change!! They'll be no change whoever gets in.

  • Until the Conservatives have some policies and commitments other than "vote for us, we're not Labour" then it's really hard to take you seriously. We've all had enough of Labour, but that doesn't mean you'll be any better.

  • ok there are a few things that i dont agree with. Firstly, when it says "Give power back to people". don't do that, people are fucking idiots most of the time. "Make politics more local". NO! i think most of the politcal traditions and parties in this country should be liquidated and simplified as well as many protocols taken out. lets be logical and open with our approach to government. in all honesty the conservatives aren't going to be much different, or at least be different enough.

  • BTW

This is both insulting and goes to show the depths that the Torys will sink to.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

  • The only people that David Cameron wants to help is firstly David Cameron and secondly his class.

We all hear about Thatcher and how marvellous she was. She spent next to nothing on the nations infrastructure, and did the same as all Tory leaders have done.

Cut taxes and ignore public expenditure. This gives the actual income of the ordinary man about a tenner in his wages and increases the rich parasites income by millions while the country goes to waste.

  • Judging by what happend to the pound today at the slightist hint of a Labour victor this country is doomed if Brown gets another 5 years. Public sector workers will be voting themselves into IMF sponsered purgatory if they vote Brown. Labours taking this country into a death spiral. Instead making cuts gradually he's storing it all up for a public finance armageddon, what an evil fucker!

  • It wasn't the hint of a Labour victory that affected the pound, it was the hint that there could be a hung Parliament.

  • 5 months is like 5 years, 5 years would be like 50. it can't happen and thankfully won't. no more hard labour.

  • How old are you? Do you know what previous Tory governments have done to ordinary people?

If you don't you soon will if Cameron gets in.

  • Oh it was terrible, We didn't have the most CCTV per person in the world, we didn't have a DNA database, we didn't fingerprint children, we didn't create over 3000 new criminal offences, we didn't torture foreigners, we didn't invade sovereign nations, we didn't use terrorism to grab more power for the state and we didn't have an MP arrested for embarrassing the government. This government have turned a once free country into something that's not a million miles away from a police state.

  • @oblivionuk And you think the Con men will not carry on this draconian plan?

  • No I don't, they are the party of the individual, not the state and they'll be cutting the state down to size. They've been running campaigns agaist ID cards and the DNA database. If you think they'll carry on goose-stepping around like New Labour then you don't know much about them.

  • The reason they campaign about ID cards and DNA datadases is that they will oppose anything that the government does, regardless of whether it's good for the country or not just to get into power by fair means or foul.

  • Police state? Complete nonsense, when were you last troubled by the 'Police State'?

Where do you get these 'facts' from, the Daily Mail?

The last tory PM who gave a damn for the ordinary people of this country was Neville Chamberlain.

If the Eton tory boy gets power he will line the pockets of his own class just as all the others did.

  • You don't remember the last Tory government do you? if you did you wouldn't post rubbish picked up in some sixth form debate. Do stop the "Eton Tory boy" nonsense, it's infantile.

  • I remember it only too well, and all the previous ones right back to Macmillan.

I speak from long and bitter experience, I was born in 1946.

'Eton Tory Boy' is far from nonsense, it's fact.

  • Should having a decent education be a bar to office? anyway have a look at the privileged backgrounds those champagne socialists in government have had.

  • Of course its not, but Eton isnt so much an education, more a rich mans club.

All the Tory governments Ive lived through cut taxes which puts a few quid in the average mans pocket each week but thousands to the rich while leaving public services to rot.

I remember watching millionaires cheering the news that Thatcher had been re-elected on their yachts in Marbella while whole communities were being devastated by her vile policies.

Ive lived though it and I dont want my grandchildren to.

  • and yet your happy to put your grandchildren into debt to fund Browns spending? There were problems under Thatcher, mostly as a result of dragging this country into the 20th century, I notice those who complain about Thatcher forget the mess she had to clean up, it's always the same, Labour make a mess and Tories get the stick for tough times we'll all endure as part of cleaning up that mess.

  • I can throw that straight back at you. Labour came to power in 97 they inherited an infrastructure that was literally falling to pieces due to years of Tory neglect.

To blame any one government for the present economic problems is quite ridiculous.

Is Brown responsible for the problems in the US, Europe and Japan?

The slumps in the 80's were Tory created and largely affected this country only.

Thatcher would have been out but for her godsend of the Falklands.

  • Before you reply, you and I will have to agree to disagree on this.

I respect your opinions as I hope you respect mine.

All I know through over 50 years of working is that whenever a Tory government is in power, life gets harder.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Dont misunderstand me, if I were rich Id vote Tory, Id be a fool not to, Im not a hypocrite.

I assume you are rich, if not you are playing into the hands of the ruling classes which still exist.

    Good luck.

  • I'm far from rich, I was bought up in a council house and went to standard comprehensive. I just like to keep more of what I earn and not have the state deciding what my earnings get spent on. Might be best to agree to disagree, if not we'll still be at it when the 2015 election comes around.

I think there's one thing we can agree on, with the election so tight the likes of the BNP will get squeezed out and that's good for all of us.

  • @oblivionuk

Taxes provide the services that so many of us rely on and should be seen as a civic responsibility. If you are relatively well off that shouldn't be a problem for you, if you are struggling then yes you should pay less taxes, a fair tax, whilst the wealthier pay their fair share. The Tories are only interested in cutting taxes for corporations and the very wealthy. Also, low wages are a result of corporate exploitation of your labour, something the Tories will only make worse.

  • You cut corperation tax to stimulate jobs, more jobs means more higher tax receipts and less spending. I have no problem with paying for services, I have a huge problem paying for an inefficient and bloated public sector. Spending has gone up by a ridiculous amount and yet that isn't reflected in the quality of the services provided. Any fool can spend money, spending it wisely is the trick, something Labour have failed to do.

  • We were in trouble before the global ressesion started, the debts were huge and that wasn't including PFI and pensions. The Tories didn't get everything right, far from it but they took us from the sick man of Europe to a major fianacial power.

  • Are you for real?do you not remember the basket case of a country Thatcher inherited in 79? The dead remaining unburied-rubbish on the streets-the country gripped by the Unions-going to the IMF with begging bowls because we were bankrupt..or do you dispute these facts? And on a day when Michael Foot sadly passed away, you show little political knowledge if you think Thatcher would have been out had it not been for the Falklands? The longest suicide note in history ring any bells?

  • We're all seeing what a Labour government does to ordinary people..I love how this country has to put up with Labour bringing the country to its knees..it did in '51..it did in '79..and now it's done it again in 2010..unreal..well I suppose we should be thankful for small mercies..the dead are at least being buried nowadays unlike under Labour in the late 70s although I suppose there's still time for a repeat of this Labour 'triumph'.

  • I'm personally doing wery well under this dreadful scourge of a government, I dare say you are too.

The fact is that big business and the wealthy want a tory government because that is whats best for them.

Why do you think that the owners of so many newspapers print dubious news if not outfight lies to promote the tories?

Simple, they will make more money with one of their own like Cameron in power.

Where will this money come from?

Out of your pocket and mine, unless you are one of them.

  • Well if you're doing well, then that's fine..wow..wasn't that exactly what the voters of the Tories and Thatcher were accused of? I'm in the public sector..i could cop out and vote Labour but I'd rather cut off my own arm..they've effed up the country once again but why is anyone surprised? Labour always run out of other people's money. Your newspaper comment makes no sense..hardly any paper supported the Tories in 2005..they may support them now as they realise what an awful job Brown has done

  • Labour runs out of other peoples money?

Well maybe, the tories just keep it for themselves.

The reason no papers supported the tories in 2005 was because they thought they would do better under Blair. Do you seriously think that Murdoch gives a damn about whats good for England?

Murdoch cares about Murdoch, Cameron cares for Cameron.

Ive heard all this caring for the people crap from a string of tory leaders for the last 50 years.

Nothing Cameron says sounds any different.

    Same lies.

  • PS You are not Alf Garnet are you?

  • Yes I am.

I can go to a hospital and not have to wait nine months for an appointment.

I can see uniformed support officers on the streets on a regular basis.

The school my sons attended is no longer falling apart as it was when Major was in power.

I can see roads being repaired after being left to become ploughed fields under Thatcher.

  • Oh you poor love-just because someone disagrees with you, it's not very intelligent to accuse of them of being "Alf Garnett"?I wont accuse you of being some Leftie Loony-you fail to realise that the only reason Labour got into power was because they gave up lots of their principles, copied Tory policies and had a leader who could easily have been a Tory PM!You must be mad if you think Brown cares for the people-remind me who savaged millions of the poorest by getting rid of the 10p tax?

  • hmmm..under Thatcher in the 80s the dead got buried (they didn't under Labour), there wasn't rubbish piled on the streets (there was under Labour), the country wasn't gripped by the Unions (it was under Labour - though funny how Labour haven't repealed a single law since returning in 97), she went to the IMF as a CONTRIBUTOR (under Labour we'd been to the IMF with our begging bowls)..so far the dead are being buried under Brown but there's still time for this Labour 'triumph'

  • Comment removed

  • Another five years of McDoom and we'll end up like Zimbabwe.

  • Just looked at you channel, you are a typical tory from the look of it.

  • i love the way that politicians have resorted to slating each other over the internet

  • gordon brown is the man

  • Yes please.

  • It sends a shiver down the spine to think that we might have to endure a further 5 years of the worst Prime Minister this country has ever had. A control freak of a bully whose incompetence has brought this country to its knees

  • It's funny how the false bully allegation haven't hurt Labours poll ratings. The tories face a little bit of scrutiny and they turn to jelly. The country wants a strong leader like gord, not a PR vacum like Cameron.

  • "a strong leader like gord"..come on..you must have been smiling as you wrote that...he's been an awful PM, presided over the biggest BUST we've ever had (having boasted he had ended BOOM AND BUST), savaged millions of the poorest over the 10p tax, cocked up with the selling of our gold..once again, just as in '51 and '79, Labour isn't working &it will be left to the Tories to clean up the horrific mess..the sooner that Bully is out, the better..the country can't afford 5 more years of Labour

  • @steps1 Labour isn't working but to think the Tories will clean up the mess is crazy. Madness is when you repeat the same mistake and hope for a different outcome.

  • They did in '51 and '79..trouble is if the Tories don't get in, it may be too late because we're in dire straits thanks to Labour and Brown

  • The game is rigged because thats all it is, a game. Labour vs Torie, one fucks up the other gets in till the sheeple... I mean people get fed up and vote the other one in. Yet we gain nothing, we just keep our heads down and pay our fucking taxes while Goldman sucks and the rest of the banking elite rob us blind, but wait, the solution to the mess must be? THE TORIES yaaay!

  • To be honest I would rather have anyone except Cameron. I don't mind the right wing, but Cameron's not even that. He thinks he can do a Blair on us and sweep to power without even awnsering basic questions about policy.

  • @ZZZOE11

Now what`s this, here we are again with... "the country wants a strong leader like "Gord" ..

So you`re "not a New Labour spammer & are going to vote UKIP"? So much for "I`ve been criticising Labour as well"

ZZZOE11 IS A LYING NEW LABOUR SPAMMING ZOMBIE, towing a political line around YouTube, the sooner Madelson, Campbell & their scuttling minions like you are kicked into the trash can of history along with the failed New Labour project the better it`ll be for this nation

    AB

  • If you want to get rid of this awful man, you need to vote Tory!

  • If you want to get rid of him vote Lib Dem, more like.

  • @zzzoe11 Voting Limp Dump will let this imbecile back in.

  • Neither thanks
