also the soviets were all men who have been playing together for nearly 20 yrs, they had 4 straight gold medals, and we 21-0 in their last 21 games. The entire hockey world knew the soviets were the best in the world. The US team was college kids, half of them hated each other in the beginning b/c of the minnesota/boston rivalry & they managed to upset the greatest team in the world. And it wasnt just about hockey it also had cold war politics involved.
