  • good :-)

  • Niesamowite to mało powiedziane...

  • niesamowite

  • Love her voice.

  • I've heard her and she did not sound like she did in 1963. The song was sped up. Notice in :50, she says "hey hey.,," in her current voice. Im sure she sang live when this was done but the video sound was edited.

  • FABLOUS !

  • good bye Miss Horton!!!

  • It's ALWAYS Eazy to Pick on THE DEAD; They can't defend themselves...

  • i was thinking damn this woman's voice still sounds the same but then i had to think about aretha who can sing her ass off doesnt still sound the same so she is lip synching that's why no close up's but she still cute

  • ms horton seems to be lip-synching here bcuz her voice is distinctly different at 0:51 to 0:53 than at every other part of the song when she's singing

  • @ladymuziklover i totally agree it sounds so fresh and clean at first then at the time u stated it gets all rough and deep. lol clearly she's not singing.

  • @ladymuziklover Gladys Horton WAZ NOT Lip-synching!!! #1. T.J. Lubinsky WOULD NOT ALLOW IT ON ANY OF HIS STAGE SHOWS! #2. She IZ NOT Singing the song EXACTLY like the record!! and #3. YOU ARE AN EVIL JEALOUS HEARTED PREGNANT MOOSE FOR SAYING SO!!! LOL!!! Marvelette FANZ WHERE ARE U????

  • @zodiolestes it looks like u need anger management bcuz all i did was make a statement..if u don't agree w/it, it don't bother me..fyi - i am not jealous of ms horton cuz i dont need to be & i am a fan of the marvalettes music but i can hear well & know a lip synched performance versus a true live one..and "a pregnant moose" - really? if u callin some1 that, u must know how it is to be 1..lastly, did u verbally harass the person who agreed w/me? clearly, u jus need to chill out & that's that

  • @ladymuziklover Really now? I'm pickin? Well, WHO brought this CRAP Up??? The performance here was SPEEDED UP for the Stage. If she were Lip-Synching? Wouldn't Gladys sound like Minnie Mouse/Diana Ross? And, maybe Mz. Horton requested NO CLOSE-UPs for reasons of "Vanity"? She wouldn't be the 1st woman in show-biz Guilty of PROTECTING HER WRINKLES? Also, maybe Gladys voice was STRONGER than Martha Reeves, Diana Ross & Aretha because her voice was Seldom USED due to FAKE MARVELETTES Performing?

  • @zodiolestes yes i made the comment first about ms horton lip synching but not for you to hurl ur insults as a result of it...i dont think "bankman58" wants verbal wars on his page so this is all i have to say: it's clear we have different opinions & everybody is entitled to their own...peace

  • @ladymuziklover WoW! Just because someone won't allow A CAMERA DOWN THEIR TONSILS? IT'S MILLI-VANILLI TIME ONSTAGE!! Just Luvin' that IDIOTIC FORETHOUGHT... You must have ridden "The Small Bus" to school??? And as for me attacking your comments? There's an Olde saying:" If you can't take the Heat? Don't start Cookin' CRAP in the kitchen..."LoL!!!

  • @zodiolestes omg and u call me idiotic?! who's shoutin in all caps and gettin all offended - u not me! have u heard of the old saying: mind ur business?

  • @ladymuziklover And just for the sake of argument? Lets just say that you're RIGHT? Lets say Gladys just had a stroke and Mr. Lubinsky Agreed to let her rip off her audience?? Why would someone LIP-SYNC HALF A SONG?

  • @zodiolestes

Exactly! I was THERE and she was NOT lip synching. They may have done something for the televised show but at the taping EVERYONE sang live.

  • Thank's for shearing, really good !

  • My god... She still sounds like she's sixteen...

  • Man they were great, only person who matches this is Karen Carpenter.

  • ok hold up who all die and when can someone tell me pls

  • UNBELIEVABLE - Still the same voice as in 60´s !!!!!!!! The best female group ever! Diana Ross´s voice is not the same anymore as in 60´s, but Horton´s voice is...GREAT!

  • What an amazing live performance. Gladys' voice was one of the reasons that The Marvelettes were the greatest girl group Motown ever had.

  • RIP Gladys, such a wonderful gritty soulful voice

  • RIP Gladys... The Marvelettes were the TRUE QUEENS OF MOTOWN!

  • I was just singing this song last week when I saw a mail man deliverying mail.

  • Some performers come across so pure in their art and so perfectly likeable in their stage presence; Gladys Horton was one of those people. Just watch any of the few live performance videos on YouTube and you will see that she had star quality, whether performing lead or backup. Check out the live pergormance of "Don't MessWith Bill." All three women were polished performers here, but Gladys just added something special. Watch it. You'll see what I mean. She was flawless.

  • BIOP ... I hope someone will produce a biopic movie about the Marvelettes and their experience at Motown and iin life.. This would be a tear-jerker but a box-office hit ..I think. Motown and it's artists won't look so good though (he he he )

  • @grifitti True It took Motown 43 years to give them a Gold Record. It would be great to see Unsung do a documentary on them

  • R I P Gladys Horton. I don't care what anybody says about looks....glamour. This lady had an incredible voice....the absolute BEST voice of that era and even now. The Marvelettes with Glads' lead on "Mr Postman" was the jump-start for Motown and girl-groups. I loved Wanda's voice but Gladys held it DOWN...the quality and unique raspy-soulfulness of her lead vocals ROCKED the soul. R I P Gladys... I am one of your most grateful fans....

  • Still, it would have benn nice to have original Marvelettes Katherine,Wanda, and Juanita onstage with her atleast one final time! REST IN PEACE GLADYS!!!

  • I wish I could see her sing Playboy

  • OMG My girl sounds sooooooooooo good.

    God Bless Her

  • I think all the great performers are dying away, the famous singers that are left from the 50's and 60's are still around but we take them for granted, I say we get them together and make an album!!!!!

  • Would have been nice if the camera person would have done a head shot instead of a Tambourine shot.

  • Why when the drummer suppose to crash the cymbal, I never see it.Are their two drummers?

  • She sounded as good as when she first recorded it!! RIP Gladys!!God Bless You!!

  • RiP Gladys Hortman Wait Mr.Postman great song I remember when whoopi sang this song on Sister Act 2 man Gladys sounds great cand classic from 2008 this women should have had big album she sounded classic

  • RiP Gladys Hortman Wait Mr.Postman great song I remember when whoopi sang this song on Sister Act 2

  • Gladys will be here forever...I hope so...

  • No close-ups of the lead singer? What? Fire the producer!

It seems like the band rushed through the song as well. Gladys sounded great!

  • i very agre why the cam wa so her back ground singrs and not her hello sheis the singer???

  • love you always gladys rip you were the one love you always

  • Just goes to show. Right up till the end. She was THE voice. RIP Gladys. And Thank You.

  • Gone from midst from our hearts never, Rest in Peace Gladys

  • Marvin Gaye was the drummer on the Marvelettes original song "Please Mr. Postman" at Motown Records.

  • RIP Gladys Horton you left us much to soon

  • RIP Gladys Horton, and thank you for the beautiful music you shared with us all

  • I said the same thing when i was watching this on PBS,But maybe Gladys requested no close ups.I had heard she had a stroke.Any way i loved her and shes singing with the angels now.God bless her.

  • @Desiree50 I agree with you sis

  • To Ms. Gladys Horton. Great Peace and Love to you in Eternity. Thank you for sharing your gifts. Blessings to your family and loved ones.

    R.I.P. Gladys Horton

    Lead Singer of THE MARVELETTES

Credited in the early 1960's with "Please Mr. Postman" the first

Billboard Pop Charts # 1 Hit for what would become the recording empire

    Motown/Tamla/Gordy/Soul

    "The Sound Of Young America"

    "YOU'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN"

    "GOD SPEED" :-)

  • she sounded great-God Bless You MS. Horton. RIP and thanks for the good for great music.

  • she sounded great-God Bless You MS. Horton. RIP

  • R.I.P. Gladys thanks for the Great Music..

  • this is bad video no focus on the star Gladys Horton

  • Wow, this was in 2005! She's great!

  • Yah I Agree it is disrespectful.... for Gladys Horton....

  • This lady had CLASS, take note of the Gloves.

First Class Act & Genuine. Wish she could have skyrocketed,

it all depends on whom you employ as your PR. It 's Show Biz

    remember.

  • R.I.P Great singer!

  • I will never forget my reaction to her voice when postman first came out. Unique, tough, cool etc. Loved everything that Ms. hotrod

  • RIP GLADYS..well done servant...

  • RIP Miss Gladys Horton, you were great, unique and will always be remembered and loved.

  • She sounds great and looks great, too. Never got heavy as the years passed. A very tough childhood--orphan passed from foster home to foster home–and very tough years as a mother to a needy child she was known to care for with the utmost responsibility and love. Motown made lots of many with her and recorded her on hundreds of songs but she left realizing Motown had turned its attentions elsewhere, regardless of what she had done for the company.

  • another motown-girl.

    May she rest in peace..

  • Gladys Horton, co-founder of Motown's Marvelettes, dies at 66 ...

RIP Gladys... a good soul and true SOUL SISTER

  • RIP Gladys sadly passed away today

  • She's a talented singer who never got the recognition, respect, or money she deserved, especially from her own label: Motown!!

  • ...she still has an excellent voice...!

  • this simply cant be her singing alive. even great singers chance voice through times, and this voice is exactl the same as in the 60's

  • @zeroleminski

I was there in the audience. She sang live but when they televised the performances they overdubbed her and some of the other groups too.

  • @zeroleminski

I was there in the audience. She sang live but when they televised the performances they overdubbed her and some of the other groups too. If you listen carefully you can hear some parts don't have the overdub. I don't know why the producers did this. She sounded fine live.

  • @behdoc yesi i can notice, at 0:49 the original sound comes a little while.

i guess thats disrespectful to her and fans too, because even if she sounded not so good, we want to hear her singing NOW, no matter what.

  • It's so funny because she sounds exactly the same from the 1961 recording.

  • at 0:48 gladys shows the girl in the middle. she know wat she doin, and she aint stupid thats ole skool vibes...

  • It is a very rare treat to see one of the original Motown superstars still able to excite with her voice. What is sad is when groups such as the "Four Tops" and "The Temptations" appear and there is one or even no original founding members left. Gladys Horton has my respect and along with her bandmartes, holds a place of honor on my 2,000 plus vinyl record shelf and turntable any day!

  • Hey melodymx86, I wrote this a year ago, I'm shocked that anyone noticed my comment. Perhaps you are correct on the point of Ms.Horton not wanting close up shots. Close up or not It, singing live or not, I am happy to see her. Listening closer, there is hand clapping on the original version. Except for the opening here, no one is clapping on this video, you do hear it. I don't have a problem with an artist singing over their own recordings. No big deal, not that serious. Take care.....

  • Even without dubstep this song is amazing

  • I came back again just to see this great post.

  • Stroke or no stroke Gladys looks and sounds fabulous. I was lucky enough to see her more than once, live, on Detroit TV back when their hits were playing on the radio. Since I had a crush on her she helped me to NOT be prejudiced even though I grew up in an all-white neighborhood. And I always thought that the gap between her teeth was cute, sexy and adorable. It's a shame that so many people "fix" so called imperfections that are often the very thing that makes a person more attractive.

  • she is amazing...just a shame the clip doesnt show the start properly..one of the best song starts EVER

  • i came back to listen to miss gladys because i love her voice

  • Gladys Horton is a very vivacios and elegant lady. this a real black woman....she's been around in the spot light since the Racist days.Marvelettes were true soul sista's. FROM THE LATE FIFTIES to 2005 Gladys you are too "Deadly"...LEGEND

  • Age has done nothing detrimental to her voice.

  • Just GREAT STUFF and the way it should be. Motown

  • wow she sound so much the same

  • Wow, her voice ramains the same o_o is fantastic!

  • when was this

  • She still got it!!!

  • she sound live to me , because she humms some parts that is not hummed on the record she is just a amazing star, this is the real deal and I am glad to have found it, I have a crush on her from her 1964 stuff and I am 40 years old and I wish I could meet and hug her one day.

  • why is there no close up of Gladys...really a pity they showed everyone but her....

  • i said the same thing, why is there no close up of gladys.i said maybe she requested it that way?the little glimpse i got on her says shes really aged, but she still has a nice figure.i had no idea she had a stroke did you?did you see the way the backup singer on the right of her at the end of the song give gladys that cool cool look.any ways i know she lip synched but it was to something she had recorded recently.her voice is still great.i will alway love miss horton.peace, desiree

  • @Desiree50 SHE IS ACTUALLY SINGING LIVE

  • She's moving damn well for someone who had a stroke.

  • If she is really singing live then WOW!!!! her voice hasn't changed at all and she still sounds like a 20 years old.

That is an amazing uptempo version!

  • I actually doubt she is really singing live. It sounds too much like the original version...

  • This is the first 45 rpm I ever bought

Man that was long ago now.

I remember buying it and Sandy Nelsons

    Let there be drums.

  • that is gladys, my wife sang with her & i did her videos, She does fall off on her song rehearsals, but is a fabulous person and was given the shaft by smokey. He hid her triple platinum award from her for years. because she had motowns 1st certified #1 hit postman

  • Oh, please. Another ridiculous rumor. Gladys is singing live. The tempo is much faster here than on the recording and some of th lyrics are different.

Gladys is fabulous!!!!!Thanks for the memories.

  • I had a friend who attended the filming of this show. Gladys did sing live, however she didn't sound good so the producers over dubbed the original recording. The only thing that's "live" is the "hey", otherwise it's the original vocal. So Gladys wasn't lipsynching when they filmed it, but it became a synch job in post production. Also listen to the background vocals--it sounds exactly like the recording, though mixed down.

  • To me she sounds pissed off with this song now, although her voice is great. As usual, far too hurried and a bit souless.

I wonder why she didn't go solo?

  • It's so good to see Gladys Horton, who sang the ORIGINAL version of this #1 song back in 1961. Her voice sounds just as good now as it did back then.

  • is she retiering?

  • where can i download this version of the song? where can i get it?

  • Far too fast. Sounds as if she was sick of the song she wanted to get it out of the way

  • q excelente! canción.

  • The porducer said the distant camera view as due to a stroke Ms Horton had.

  • omg she still sounds the same....amazing!!

  • Still GOOD. love this song. COME TO HOLLAND :D:D:D:D

  • Like many of you, I would like to believe she was singing live, but I honestly believe she is lipsynching as well. I played the original along with this one, and aside from the speed of this version of the song, the vocals are identical.

  • Still sounds perfect....I love this song...

  • Even IF it is pre-recorded, she STILL had to SING! It is obviously not the record's vocals, and she has developed a confidence in her vocals that is not like the early years! She sounds GOOD whether it is or not pre-recorded y'all. Let's just 'enjoy' it! It's GOOD!!!!!

  • wow...she sounds so gooood!!! sound almost like the original record..wow.

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to fast

  • This is Gladys Horton, the band is live and she is really singing. It is disrespectful to put so much video attention on the back up singers. Gladys is the star of this video, She has a rich voice the kind that would sould good even wihout backup singers or music.

  • @Chocolateblondie i heard she didnt want any close up shots of her

  • @Chocolateblondie Definitely disrepectful!!! Did the cameraman not think we would notice there were no close-ups of her?? This was ridiculous footage for such and important person of our musical history!!

  • @Chocolateblondie I agree. Whoever directed this video should be ashamed. Gladys deserved the full attention of this production. What was this production company thinking!:??

  • @rowbyrowby How old are you? The WORLD then is nothing like it is today.

  • @Chocolateblondie i agree, and i thought i was the only one noticed that

  • @Chocolateblondie

No close-ups of the lead singer? What? Fire the producer!

It seems like the band rushed through the song as well. Gladys sounded great!

  • She still sound the same.

  • @AllMemoriesFadeAway I TOATLLY agree!!!!! She really does!

  • that really is her! and that is her voice too! omg i soo cant believe im seeing her live! in the 21st century! gladys will always be my #1! and she aint lip sycing!

  • She is NOT singing live. That is why there is NOT one close-up of her. Her lip sycing was bad.

  • Oceanbound is absolutely correct .... the reason there's no close-ups of Gladys is because she's lip syncing and, because she's old now, she's probably not doing the best job ... so they keep the camera at a distance, choosing to focus on the back up singers instead.

  • I agree, I don't think it is possible to sing the same way back in 1963 then sound the same in 2005. Whats the chance? Unless she just literally sat in a chair and did nothing for forty years.

  • Nah, she definitely sang at the show...check out 50 seconds that "hey" is her now! Cool.

  • I did not see ONE spot where her lip 'synching' was bad! She was 'on it' when they DID show her! Plus, how could it be, she still works live and sings this song all the time! She 'knows' how she sings it! And this is 'GOOD' regardless of 'what'!

  • i think this is pre-recorded!

  • It is VERY possible to have the same voice that you had in your teens--you have to PROTECT and take care of your voice &general health ,,, find yourself a good ear-nose and throat doctor, and avoid the obvious "vices"-- smoking, alcohol and street drugs. I'm 50+ years old, have 30+ years in the business, and much to many people's surprise! I am able to sing the same songs in the same keys as I did at 14 years old! It is very possible to still sound nice although you are getting along in years.

  • exactly that u for pointing that out i'm in music classes and understand wut ur saying

  • oh nevermind i guess she is lipsinking either way this is a great performance

  • A little fast. What's the rush? The 1962 version sounded much, much nicer. I sort of get out of breath listening to this version.

  • Wow... I didn't know that Miss Horton had been ill... I hope that she is in good health now... All of God's Blessings to her.

  • Amazing !!! she does sound the exact same!!! she must keep on her voice to keep it sounding good!

  • For all you idiots out there, she is not singing live, that is pre recorded with snippets of the original recording added to the new track. Can't you tell that is her original recording voice on there? She can't sing anymore. Her voice is much deeper now because of her age. if you look at clips from 20 years ago with her singing, she has a deeper voice.

  • Amazing!!! Her voice sound the same the way like it did back in 61.

  • I think it's live. The single is a bit slower & the old live recordings are much faster. Gladys makes a few slight rhythmic errors that would have been fixed if it were pre-recorded.

  • i dont think she's lip-synching.She sounds the same as she did 40 years ago!

  • i find that a bit hard to believe seening how she DOES sound like she did 40 years ago

  • i luv this video..and someone should upload some interviews of her and the other marvelettes..

  • To the guy down below...with all due respect....Gladys is definitely lipsynching. They did the same thing to Martha Reeves. Hey big ups to T.J. for giving these artists one last moment in the spotlight.

So many of the greats lose their voices for various reasons. Let them do one last performance with their dignity intact.

  • to peter peter pumpkin eater, you obviously no nothing about singing or the music business. when you perform live you bring musicians. don"t you see them. you must be caught up in that britney spears tape running bullshit. gladys horton is singing live. now your a fucking doctoror an authority on voices. nothing worse than an educated fool. and i'm being nice by using the word fool!!

  • I have seen Ms. Martha LIVE...and let me tell you....Her voice is WONDERFUL at almost 70 years old...Same with the Queen of Sould Ms. Aretha Franklin who is also pushing 70..Gladys semi-retired to care for her disabled son...I was unaware that she had a stroke...However,,, if you put in "holding on with both hands" and listen to her voice on that youtube video..you will see that the two voices are different...But, if you are a professional singer..and you train your voice..it can remain intact

  • Gladys is using synchronization, which is a technical term for matching lip movements with voice. This is one of her old recordings. Gladys, I hear might be writing a book soon. The Marvelettes are one of the nicest ladies I have ever met.

Lets hope that Wanda will sing again. I surely miss these ladies.

  • what happened to the third marvelette?

  • there was only 1 person from marvelette was dere coz if u watchin it da background singers r young

  • that was all lip synched!the camera never got close to her face cause she could not lip synch fast enough with the music.. not good to me at all

  • no bastard! the camera didnt go up cuz she had a stroke!

  • what are you talking about you old bag! i never said she had a stroke, could care a less if she had one.. you need read the post better, i just said she liped synch and i got you bastard hanging between my legs so open wide....

  • listen cunt,

you said she couldnt sych to the lyric, but thats not true, the camera dont get close cuz she had a stroke,

fuck u bitch, ive got ur mum up my arse.

  • you have to much time on your hand.. please stop e-mailing me or i am going to just report it... i could care aless its just a video...

  • you shouldn't make coments on things you don't know. i don't know you but i know your ignorant about music !

  • OMG, The Marvelettes forever, you better wait a mintue, deliver the letter

  • What do you call 1:35 - 1:38? Looks like a close-up to me ...

  • Hey Bruce

I am the Musical Director for Barbara Harris of "The Toys" and she did TJ's Show back in 2002. I played bass on the take. None of the artist from that show lip sank anything. Almost everybody did 2 takes and each take was a little different. On his "Red White and Rock " show there was no lip syncing. Sometimes when some of these clips are uploaded to youtube they suffer a syncing problem but if you purchase the actual video, you will see. There was no lip syncing.

  • I was there at the show too and when it was recorded there was no lipsynching from anyone. I don't know what happened once the video was produced.

  • where was the show at?

  • Atlantic City.

  • thanks trop.for posting to me

  • She still has her voice! Amazing!!!

  • She sounds exactly the same as she did in the 60's! AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I love this song :D

  • i love this song! great job! girl

  • what wrong with the dame camara person. does not go close to her face

  • There's a late 80s live clip of Gladys on youtube put up by Ian Levine that shows her voice had deteriorated somewhat from her heyday. I don't think 20 years later it would have gone *back* to her earlier voice. I've read that this Lubinsky show appearance was indeed lip-synched. Still, I love Gladys and am thrilled anytime somebody posts ANYTHING by her. Thank you!

  • Thank u! its the real marvelettes on background!

  • It is a very poor bet that the original isolated vocal track exists, or ever did. Everything was two track, so vocals were probably on one track, with the background vocals. This is not the original track by far.

(sonically and performance). Are you friends with TJ Lubinsky? Get him here in the chat then. I don't hear a "you bet" anywhere. I think ns0710 is Berry Gordy. Gladys rocks, even if it is a track. She has the best damn pop vocal sound ever. I love you Gladys!!!!!!

  • I agree with u frankothemountain i dont hear "you bet" etheri

  • Comment removed

  • The producer should be shot for focusing so much on the damn background singers.

  • Comment removed

  • I couldnt figure out why no close up of Gladys and then I heard she wanted it that way due to having had a stroke. Does anyone know the truth?
