  • Each soul is potentially divine. The goal is to manifest this divinity within by controlling nature: external and internal. Do this either by work, or worship, or psychic control, or philosophy--by one, or more, or all of these--and be free. This is the whole of religion. Doctrines, or dogmas, or rituals, or books, or temples, or forms, are but secondary details.

  • Both the host and the comedian miss the point regarding babies being born atheists; actually, they both make the point (that babies are a-everything) without realising that was in fact the point of the argument they're making fun of. Yes, babies have no belief in evolution, etc. The point is only religious belief is actually projected onto babies. That's why it's relevant to point out everyone is born atheist, but not that everyone is born without knowing how to do, for example, math.

  • @tml4873 are you suggesting atheism and evolution are coexistent? as if they only go hand in hand?

  • @drinkmoresoda No, I didn't imply any relationship between the two. I just granted the point that babies are born without knowing about evolution, but that it's different from being born without a belief.

  • I believe god but I don't believe in religion. If anyone asks, I'm atheist just to get the religious nuts off my back. I don't believe in god's miracles, or that lack of beliefs or different beliefs will land you in hell. That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. I also believe in evolution. Kinda counterproductive I know. Basically I believe gods role is the ruler of heaven. And that's it. God does nothing else.

  • google Doe's Account.

  • @Yellowwatts I've read it, it was so awesome and they're making money of it. -_-

  • id say ur religion is ur religion...dat makes a person theres alot of religions and alot of people are different....Either way we all would find out wen we die huh?...

  • @ortizta sorry you wont find out shit. you'll just be dead. thats it. im sorry

  • @GBJ83 I was starting to type something very similar to what you did before I saw your comment.

  • its ok thanks

  • Marrys a liar and got the shit fucked out of her and then their came jesus and she didn't want to be called a slut so she said she was a virgin and jesus was fucked up in the head and didnt do anything and was a false profit like chirs angel

  • wow, i really really wish people can open there eyes and take out that pathetic excuse of religion which is called faith from it so they can see the truth that Christianity is a fairytale that people believe so they are not afraid to die.

  • god is love ,now scrafice your children and let people smash them against rocks...because they are blessed

  • what?!

  • Good luck...you could be the most populated state for megachurches. I am in SC also a very pious state. I wonder why people do not question the doctrine more? As Swift said; "We have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love one another."

  • You go John... keep your view ...I am a Black Athiest also...religion was our great downfall during slavery...Hopefully our community will get a clue sometime.

  • I always tell people that I'm a minority minority. Not sure what part of the country you're from, but I live in Texas. In the south, of all places, black people cling to religion and I'll never get it. They also celebrate Juneteenth.

  • As a person who is also part black, YOU sadden me. How could you be so ignorant to be saddened by a black person just because they don't believe the same thing as you do? Really, I wanna know...

  • I feel sorry for you.

  • Guess that makes you a Pucker.

  • I love Satan!

  • you are a fukin retart

  • Child of Satan? I'm getting a DNA test before I accept THAT title...

  • Ha! I litterally lol'd.

  • I'm doing Satan's work? LULZ. YOU ARE TOTALLY MISSING THE POINT. Atheism is not only the knowlege that there is no god, but there is no Satan either. You're just an ignorant bastard who needs to read up on something before he argues about it.

  • Lost? No. I'm pretty sure I found my way out of the wet paper bag of religion by realising that there's in no way a "God." And, I've heard this many times before. What exactly am I lost from? Hm?

  • You're lost from blind faith and false hope.

  • I have no faith and I have no hope.

  • Good. You don't need it. Better to know the thruth than to lie to yourself and be content and ignorant.

  • Faith= Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.

    Faith = Gullibility.

    ^_^

  • DIAF?

  • Do us all a favor and fuck off.

  • get out of here with that fear speech.

  • you are an idiot. atheists are doing ANYONES work, because they dont believe in Satan either...or did you really not get that....

how do you people actually think atheists are satanists... its not too late for you to change your ways!! dont waste your life in church...go to a bar!

  • how do you know satan loves atheists? does it say that in the bible? when was the last time you two spoke?

  • Bow to the Holy Areola

  • I thought this was "comic" as in comic book.

  • thanks god I m an atheist.

  • No its really funny. Why shouldn't you be able to mock nonexistent things?

  • you don't become an atheist, everyone is born atheists, some just get confused along the way.

  • ...but the most are 'forced' to be 'believers' by being baptised after birth.

religion is simply stupid... however faith is very important.

  • lol. I liked that one

  • mocking man made things is perfectly fine.

  • i can realate to the writing down ideas as the pop up because ill forget them later, and hes right, alot of mine i end finding stupid looking back.

mostly music though, not so often with lyrics.

  • if homosexuality is bad why does god make them homosexual? dumb fuck

  • yeah, and if murder is bad why did god allow us to make guns!

  • i like that one xD

  • ur so fucking dumb dude, god isnt even real... and its not a choice, because there are a ton of people who are gay and dont come out of closet. There are also people who hate being homosexual and wish they were straight. And if you really belive that you can choose it then you must be bisexual, because i know for a fact that I'm not into guys, and i wouldnt even if i wanted to be..

  • Lol why are u cursing over it lmfao. You werent born liking gays u moron and u werent born liking both hence u pick ur sexuality when u get older...Im Straight not bi.

  • if your straight how would you know?

  • How about you choose to be bi then? Try it, I bet you can't. You can NOT control what you are turned on by. You can lie about it, but we can watch your brain light up on a scan and see what floats your boat.

  • Yes he was.

  • WOOH someones got sense. thank you

  • yeah but thats the way life is, " you dont know " give a way to prove god is just a theory, then you got a fact, but you cant say that and properly back it up, you can theorize but not tell fact. To the gay thing, as a lesbian girl 9 out of 10 will say they do it cuz guys are scum or its fun but most guys will say they are born like that so there you go again you cant prove anything, so just tell your opinion. dont throw it down people neck along with curse words ( cursing shows your ignorance )

  • That's like saying you can change your eye color. Or perhaps your natural hair color would be a better example, you can cover it up but you can't change what it is naturally. It's genetics, you can no more change what you yourself find attractive, dark hair or light, green eyes or brown, etc. As I recall they've done brain scans or something along those lines and the brain of a gay person is slightly different, the chemicals are slightly different, or something along those lines.

  • not true

  • gay brain

  • Maybe I've just heard too many talks about religion, atheism, and (/shutter) Castaneda, but I found this incredibly boring.

  • There are a few atheist comedians... Believers are comics by themselves.

    Sorry for my English

  • well said...well said...

  • "There are a few atheist comedians... Believers are comics by themselves."

Unfortunately, it takes an atheist to see that :)

  • Watch: atheist comedian on prayer in school.

It by the guy on the show.

  • "Louis CK investigates the Catholic Church." --hilarious atheist comedy

People here should google "objectivism" and check out Ayn Rand's writings. Also great is optimal(dot)org

  • ... did he say he "knows homless guys that do pretty well"?

  • I think he was referring to the fraudulent homeless people who use begging to make a living and are actually not homeless.

  • As hard as I try to be healthy I still do unhealthy things every day. Does this mean I should not identify and try to avoid unhealthy lifestyles or habits? Is it all or nothing?

  • no, not at all. All i wish to promote is peace and understanding. Im trying to say that is better than riddicule and hate. I wanted to point out that logic important but because people use different logic we should respect each other. I have nothing against atheists i respect their views. But i disagree, i don't mock and hate.

  • As a comedian, I have to ask. Can't I mock affectionately? Can't I mock ideas and still love people who possess these ideas?

  • For sure! as long as its not malicious its all good. For example im christian but i love the movie dogma and that mocks christians like crazy, but its funny and i don't feel like hatred is behind it. A lot of people take themselves to seriously.

  • im more talking of the people who automatically assume your an idiot if you are religious. "you beleive in God your a f*cking idiot" to me its just as stupid as "you don't worship my God, your going to hell"

  • There is only one logic: Logic. It doesn't cater to opinions.

  • i agree. not sure what your getting at here though.

  • You said "because people use different logic"

    My comment refuted it.

  • oh, ok right. But what i mean is that people use logic but ariive at diferent conclusions.

  • It would be more precise to say: "Not everyone aspires to perfect logic at the same level".

  • isn't that just a fancy way of saying that you think your right and someone else is wrong? Logic is a tool used to find truth...people can still arive at different conclusion, logical aspirations aside.

  • No I'm not saying that. I simply said that there exist only one type of logic. And diffrent people will arrive at diffrent conclusions because they are not all at the same level of logic. I never said anythign about where I am at. So I don't see how you got that I was saying I was right. If two people arrive at two diffrent conclusions one person is more wrong and the other is more correct.

  • my mistake then sorry. I guess a got a bit touchy. Good points though.

  • In a wide sense, logic is defined as you do. In a narrow sense, logic is defined as a way of making conclussions (as asurion43 says). So, BOTH are right.

Don't forget that "almost every discussion comes from a wrong definition".

  • Logic can indeed be defined that way, but all logic will still range from poor logic to the most correct logic, that being the science of logic.

His point was that people have diffrent logics was entertaining the idea that logic is subjective, when true logic is really the very opposite.

The method of logic may vary, but if it's correct it should yield the same result as another method that is a equally valid logical method. So diffrent results should not be reached, as he said.

  • Yes, you are perfectly right.

¿Isn't it funny? Many people have false premises, make bad inferences and get wrong conclusions. Then, they believe that is the "truth" and live under that. ¡That's really crazy! It could be funny if not pathetic

"The problem with believing irrational think is that anything is possible"

Greeting from México (atchiisss)... and don't say "Bless you" as I'm agnostic xD

  • when people use logic, without prejudice and preconceptions, conclusions tend to correlate. disagreements almost always come from one or more parties having made up their mind ahead of time

  • LOL, I am joining the Church of Nipple IMMEDIATELY!!!

  • "Beautiful"

    "Kind"

    "Loving"

I don't hear "Skeptical" Anywhere in there.

  • I never intended to imply that they were perfect or skeptical. I was replying to someone who said:

"Most of the christians I have known all my life are one or more of the following: lyers, child molesters, protecters of child molesters, drug adicts, drug dealers, swindlers, theives etc."

  • In my instance of watching this video, an advertisement for McCain/Palin ran next to the video. Not a very Republican message, methinks. I find this funny.

  • Hehe, I saw you on trading spaces or whatever, I feel for you man, that was painful to watch.

  • waking life was the catalyst for me. opened my mind to all sorts of philosophys. check it out people.

  • that is a GREAT movie!

  • Lol aren't you the guy who cried on wife swap?

  • Gosh you're supporting depriving people from money they need to feed their families that they're giving to the collection plate of the church. Nice and Godly.

  • sell someone another life, take away this one

  • *cough* irssi *cough*

mIRC costs to much. irssi is free :D, mIRC is not...

  • Most of the christians I have known all my life are one or more of the following: lyers, child molesters, protecters of child molesters, drug adicts, drug dealers, swindlers, theives etc.

  • Sorry you've had such bad luck.

Most of the Christians I've known are beautiful, kind, loving people who I'm proud to call my friends and family.

I'm the atheist being interviewed in this clip.

  • A few things. You may be blinded by wanting to believe the best in people.

You really may have great luck.

More likely, anybody can be nice, even an abortion clinic doctor killer. Religious people definitely sound beautiful, loving, etc... as long as they dont feel threatened by your disbelief in their GOD.

I know a christian who is as you described normally, but she heard once that Obama was a muslim and turned suspicious and didnt care anything else about him. She was opposite then.

  • I also was raised catholic, went to catacism and all. I was a born skeptic and science/math buff and I fought all my childhood with the conflict of only being told god is real, and wanting to believe that while finding it hard to. Then I justified that I cant believe it in early teens. Didnt fully break free til i was able to leave home. I am a very observant person.

One thing I observed is that all the christians around me were hypocrites. They were also loving as long as you agreed with them.

  • It is hardly rational or scientific to take your personal experiences, anecdotal evidence, and judge an entire group of people.

Some of my dearest friends are Christians and they know that I disagree strongly with them but they remain loving and kind. I'm sorry you've been unlucky but chances are who you are factors in to your results as well.

  • kitty, your friends are hypocrites who dont follow the teachings of the bible which tell you to be intolerant of disbelief in god. Even jesus promoted stoning which also isnt done today. I judge a whole people by the bible they follow. You can pick and choose the passages as much as the christians but you being an atheist doesnt make it any more right to do so.

Also, I never made my statement as anything but to say he had good luck, because my anecdotal evidence was much different.

  • I already disagree with them strongly on their believing the bible at all, now I'm going to concern myself with whether or not they're consistent in their following of it?

I'd rather just except that I find them batshit crazy where theology is concerned and then get on with enjoying their wonderful friendship.

Please note that you are shifting from your initial argument regarding their behavior into a critique of their adherence to their professed faith.

  • I said nothing about hating them as people and said I have a coworker that is crazy, but not that we stopped getting along

Thats not the point. You are on a tangent. I was just saying them being nice has nothing to do with them being good or bad. They are always good until asked by a person representing god to be bad. Think patriotism and how normally good people are willing to kill blindly in the name of security because their president says so. Americans are taught to worship that too sadly

  • Nor did I argue that you had hated them as people or as anything else for that matter.

You implied they were loving until disagreed with. I have loving relationships with many who know I disagree with them.

You also compared "them" to abortion clinic doctor killers.

Sorry you think I'm on a tangent. I'd say the feeling is mutual.

Ah well, this is going in circles so I'll step out now. Good chatting with you.

    Sincerely.

  • basically, be as friendly as you want, be as trusting as you want, but the first person responding to the OP of this particular topic made a needless statement about how his friends are good people, as if that invalidates everything the OP said.

It should matter to you how faithful they are to their religion only if something you do goes against it.

Be lucky they are such hypocrites. Not all are so lucky.

  • i feel overwhelming love and inner peace, i'm religious, it sometimes makes me want to fly planes into building, but i'll have to wait for that special message from god before i do that.

    /sarcasm off

  • You're supporting these attacks beebobox. More so, you're supporting ANY other act of OVER-REACTION caused by, I dare, fanatic religious nuts; you're a religious nut.

    Sarcasm off.

  • good one :)

  • So you know better than we do how we feel eh? I guess that is the kind of conceit that also allows you to know the nature of the universe better the astronomists, the age of the earth better than the geologists, history better than the historian.

Maybe I feel empty because I'm not full of shit. :) Sorry, couldn't resist.

  • awesome!!!!

  • YOU feel empty inside. Don't project your feelings onto others. Atheists/agnostics don't need a God to be happy. :D

  • bee and fly win

  • Don't feel sorry for me. I don't need your pity. Maybe I should pity the fools who believe in myths.

  • Interesting. You feel sorry for us because we value our life very preciously while not being tainted by self delusion or wishful thinking.

  • Great show, Dara O'Briain is another comedian who aside from being really funny does some good stuff on religion from his atheist viewpoint, part five of his live at the theatre royal has it, it's up on youtube at the moment.

  • Good.

  • do you ever broadcast live on stickam?

  • Whos the guy he mentions at the start with youtube vids and the bible?

  • Lewis Black. When I went looking for the clips though I found plenty where he discusses the bible but I can't find him actually holding it? I hope I wasn't wrong about that. Either way, worth checking out. Just search Lewis Black Bible or Lewis Black Religion and you'll get an earful.

  • Sad and so true infidelguy.

  • Oops, the remove and reply link are too close together.

Um yes.. I had to switch mics because that black one has a damaged diafragum'. :)

My Shure Beta has always been more trust worthy.

  • is this a new video, I haven't seen your videos in a while, well I like how you analyze people's views and critisize without trying to insult the majority.

  • I had a local radio show some years back where I was so unfortunate to air (so to speak) my atheist views. I was called in to the manager for a real talking to. I left by my own a month later.

  • Man.. I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, in terrestrial markets we have to be very, very careful. Don't wanna lose advertisers or piss off the higher ups.

  • Cool interview/video. ★★★★★

    Katalyzt

  • infidelguy ftw

  • dont worry about the audio...i minimize the window and listen...just as if i was listening on the radio.

great episode! keep up the great work man!

  • My interest in Christian bashing is directly parallel to the absence of Pringles Chips in my empty Pringles Canister.

  • pringles are tasty but not as fulfilling as knowing why we're here though, right? the point I was trying to make is I spend so much time bashing christians for their horrendously flawed beliefs, but really that simply demonstrates my inner want to find meaning in life, something which currently cannot be answered. What's my REAL motivation for bashing religion? I think it's poking fun at people's beliefs simply because I lack beliefs that answer similar questions. So every time I do I show that.

  • You dont find their beliefs to be absolutly fucken FUNNY????? I love a good laugh.

When some of these christians respond it can be one of the best laughs you can ever get in life. Thats one reason for 'bashing' christians. The other is to help them see reality and help protect our futures.

    :)

(flying horses, ascending god men....hahahahaha) wicked!

  • Basically we don't know how life started and how the universe started, or what 'point' there is to life. Laughin at religion is fun, but when, like the infidelguy, and previously myself, we devote almost all of our time to arguing or trying to 'crack' religion on youtube, we're really only demonstrated our inner desire for peace/harmony/meaning whatever you want to call it. I think infidelguy is obsessed with religion-bashing EQUAL to his own existential crisis. Just a thought+wanted his opinion

  • Jamezmon

I think that if you lived in Vermont with its intense winters you might be a bit obsessed with snow and ice and cold.

The Infidel Guy lives in America where religion is plentiful and has a way of covering everything around you. So, he is out shoveling the walk, salting the roads, and putting chains on the tires.

    Thanks Infidel Guy, much appreciated.

  • Thanks, klfly,

What jamezmon also doesn't realize (probably due to his narrow view) that I'm not bashing Christianity. I am simply analyzing the claims that believers 'of all stripes' make. Surely I can discuss and criticize the claims that people make? The error in his statement is equivalent to one stating that early Greek Mythologists must be obsessed with the idea that the Greek gods must have really existed since they argue in depth that they were indeed myths.

  • dont label me with having a narrow view infidelguy, i was making a suggestion and wanted to know if you thought it had any resonance with you, not trying to create an infallible piece of logic. My epiphany was related to me and i wanted to know what you thought of it. what klfly said makes more sense, i'm from the uk where religion isn't as horrendously prevalent, and i think that gives you guys more justification for devoting lots of time to religious criticism. nuff said. as you were!

  • Such an epiphany doesn't even resonate with my sensibilities. However, yes.. it is very common for folks in the UK to not quite have an understanding of how prevalent religious inculcation is here in the US. I recommend that you google video a number of BBC documentaries that discuss just how bad things are here in the US. Search for Evolution, Trial, Dover.
