Yo this is by far one of the most classik Hip hop joints of all time. Representin straight up Real Hip Hop for Life in the 012 and beyond. Big UPS if you reppin this and all the real hip hop classics from the beginning till bout 96.
Wow :O) I haven't heard this for at least 20 years. It was the first 12" single I ever bought, not long after it came out in the UK. Some of it is immediately familiar like I heard it yesterday but other bits are catching me by surprise.
My personal favorite part is Slick Rick's: "...Stepped on the D-Train, 205th I saw a pretty girl (so) so I sat beside her Then she went roar, she was Tony the Tiger I said, oh darn, there has been a mistake Honey, my name's Slick Rick, not Frosty Flakes (Oh, golly wolly) She was raised in hell She said, um, my name is Maggie, but call me Michelle..."
I FIRST heard this record at the "EM CLUB" (Enlisted Men's Club) on base at the old Naval Training Center San Diego (now Liberty Station) in late 1985 after I graduated boot camp and was attending Radioman 'A' School. I was 18 years old and it was my very first time in a night club hearing loud jams! There were civilian chicks allowed in the club and it was a most memorable experience for me! The DJ used to play this record all the time!
Whatta' time to be alive...my boys were just born and radio station KDAY started jammin' the box with Rap, Hip-Hop, Prince and other great new artists. I drove a service van in LA and listened to Doug E Fresh. The Show was one of those new songs that I turned up as loud as I could...and get this...KDAY was an AM station; the only station in LA playing this new music. Thank you KDAY and Doug E Fresh!
From wich recording is the sample "Is It Real" hearing trough this song.I be searching for this sample for many years but can't fing it anywhere!!The Mighty B force also use the same sample in "Is It Real Flash"(1987).so i think it's Grandmaster Flash song, but don't know wich one!!
Old school rap/hip-hop is way better than today's music! Lmfao, at the comments with people telling their age, I saw about 15! I didn't know this was a social network, lol!
Talk about the perfect time to be a teenager. Got to witness the rise of hip hop first hand. This was sophmore year in high school for me. Get your Wop on!
@1234righton THANK YOU!!!! I've seen New Jack City but this song reminds me more of Inspector Gadget! I used to watch it with my little bro back in the 80's.
I went to see them in 85 in Atl. My first and favorite HIP HOP show, using 2 DJs, CHill Will and Barry B cuttin it up at the same time then Slick RIck and Dougie on the mic, a real hip hop show.
