I know this is probably a dumb question/s , but i'm new to fishing game. Can you put any kind of bait on any rod / reel like a spinner or a lure or live bait or artificial? And do you always need a leader for your line? And how long is the leader? If somebody would answer me i would appreciate it very much. Thanks.

I have bought braided line for the first tine, after a day,I notice the line looking like it coming apart, why is this happening????spiderwire 20lb test at 6lb dia...If i doing my reel alone should the label be up or down????
@wildslave1 Your line should not be coming apart like that....perhaps you can return it.
As for spooling, the label could be up or it could be down - it depends who the manufacturer spooled up. Regardless of label location, use the method explained in this video and you will have no problem at all.
Also remember, when spooling up with braided line, you need to start off with some sort of backing, such as a few feet of mono.
@smosherx ..nice to hear from you again and to recap, Spinning reels are designed for lighter line (14 lb test or less) where as bait casting reels are designed for heavier line. However, if using braided line, then you can certainly go heavier on your spinning reel.
If using a close faced spin/cast reel, it is best to use lighter line. Thanks again for writing in.
@jagenberg42 If you are using mono, it shoudl be changed at least yearly, if not twice per year - it depends how often you get out. Mono absorbs water and light and weakens with time as well. Fluorocarbon will last you the year, no problem and braid will as well - in fact, most braid should last up to 3 years.
We have plenty more fishing and line tip on our Thundermist Fishing Tips Web Site - if you get a chance, be sure to check it out. Until next time, good fishing.
@KymaticaHealth Thanks for writing in and glad you enjoyed the video....we did do anohter version in HD, so if you get a chance, check it out (the link should appear while you are watching this)
Hello Evo, What brand of line do you prefer. Use for mostly casting lures and bobber fishing. I am having trouble with 8lb. spiderwire ez mono..It twists and springs out of reel even after putting it on correctly.
@rejsixpac72 Mustad makes a very nice mono line, but it can be difficult to find - The Berkley XL would be a good line for you to use, as would the Bass Pro brand "Excel".
Wow I am just starting to get into fishing late and this honestly helped. aside from not being able to see the line, this video has been extremely helpful. Videos like this are what give the internet a great rep. Thank you

@N47Z86 Hi, im just about to try this on my own so fingers crossed!
Sit on the floor or chair, place a screwdriver through the hole in the middle(make sure the label is facing you).
And 'clamp' the metal end of the srewdrvier inbetween your feet. if you keep the spool tight against your feet you can slow it down if need be. And then just reel in like the guy said making sure you hold the line to set it tight on your reel.
@N47Z86 An easy way is to use a vice and clamp a screw driver. Then put the spool of line on the screw driver. Also, if you angle the screw driver a bit, pointing upwards, it will help.
@Davide131 Trolling is having the bait continuously moving by a moving boat. For example, you are in a boat and equipped with a fishing rod and a diving lure (say body bait with a lip).To troll, you would toss the bait into the water, and let out line (say 50 - 100 yards) then set the rod in a holder and wait for a bite. All along, the boat would be travelling about 2-3 miles per hour. By moving the boat, the bait looks like a swimming minnow travelling long distances ready for a fish to take it.
@thundermistlures Cool man, I'm gonna go try this trolling, hopefully i do it right and i don't get my bait caught on something and my dumbass falls outa the boat haha. Thanks dude appreciate the info.
Thank you for friendly easy to follow how to video sir. I had to subscribe, your the best! I just watched almost a dozen videos before this, your the only one that covered everything. Shame on 16 people that gave you thumbs down, probably people that made the other videos on this topic hahaha. Thank you again, and good luck this year.
@gsxr723 I am very happy that you are enjoying our videos! Thank you for being a subscriber and for your kind words, as they are very much appreciated! We have plenty more videos in edit and will be happy to share them with you.
Thanks again and as always, until next time, good luck and good fishing.
@FenderStratPlayer87 We are very happy that you had a great year on the water, with trouble free casting! Thank you for taking time to write to us and sharing this, as this is what makes posting videos very worth while - knowing we are able to help.
Thanks again and hope this year is even better for you than last year!
get good reals this i think is the most important thing anything upwords of 40 dolars should be fine at least for small stuff and chage your line at least once a sesson as it will weekin with abrasion sunlight and water. also make shure all the eyes of your rod are intact
@kevthedude1 Hello Kev, "the English man form Spain" - great to hear from you. We have plenty more tips and videos for you, on our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site, so feel free to check it out. We put out videos and tips on a regular basis.
Thanks for tuning in and for writing in. Until next time, good luck and good fishing.
The beginning is a little tough to understand at first but just try it and you will figure it out. It worked great for me and I had someone hold the line which helps a lot.
@crow3601 Thanks for sharing this with our viewers as we are glad you liked the video and that we were able to help. We did do a better version and when you view this version, there should be a pop-up that you can click to take you to the HD version which would be better to see....although it looks like you have done just fine.
@Dodaderf If you do not have someone to hold your spool, you could put the spool on the ground...just be sure it is "wrapping off the spool of line as shown in the video. If you can get someone to hold your spool, it would be preferred.
Until next time, good fishing.
P>S> we have plenty more tips on our Thundermist Fishing tips web site.
this video sucks a whole lot, your way was too fast especially in the beginning and u just expect people to get it the first time. go a little slower and i tried to make a fucking loop and the another loop around the open faced reel and it never snagged together and would always open up. THIS VIDEO SUCKS, make a better one thats slower and zoomed in better, i couldnt see the string in the beginning for my life...when you make a better video then post that up onto youtube and send it to me
@hossein755 Thanks for writing in. We have since made another version, filmed in HD which we think you will like much better.
When you start to watch this video, click on the notation that appears and this will take you to the HD version.
This is a great method to avoid line twist and we hope you find it helpful. Thanks again for writing in and until next time, good luck and good fsihing.
@thundermistlures what line would you recommend for a mitchell 300xe spinning reel im using 20lbs test (i dont wanna loose my 10$ lures) but the line quality seems poor, it doesnt last too long and gets tangled easy...it was 10$ cnd line dont know the name brand..i know the test lbs is more than recommended for the reel (is that whats causes the tangles) thnks!
@thegreatcb7 That's a nice reel you have - suggest going down to 10 lb test line. 20lb test monofilament line is very "springy" ("coily") and is better suited for a bait casting reel.
If you are really worried about loosing lures, you can always use a 20 lb. braided line (like Power Pro). which is thin in diameter & better for your reel. With braid, be sure to use a leader line of fluorocarbon.
Check out our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site for more great tips & info on line. Good fishing
@thundermistlures thnks a lot for your reply! i ended up buying 10lbs Sufix performance green braided line..had good reviews, i cant wait to try it out in the spring! :)
@potcrak ...that's great to hear - glad we could help and thanks for tuning in and writing in as well. Until next time, good luck on the water and good fishing!
I just want to say thanks guys i am on disability pension due to psychiatric reasons and fishing is helpful for me, your tips in many videos have saved me a lot of frustration and blind trial and error thanks for teaching a hungry man to fish so to speak.
@Super1ofmany Glad you are enjoying our videos and we thank you for tuning in! We wish you all the best in the new year & hope your disability gets much better with some great days on the water, fishing :-)
Man!!! I just threw my whole spool of line away. I thought it was the lines fault,,, Cheap line or somthing....i just wasnt spooling it right...thanx Mr. ..ima go jump off the pier to see if i can find my fishin string.
@F15h1NGGuy We like to use Stren, P-Line & Mustad line - but for the value, it's hard to beat Bass Pro Shops Excel brand....it is surprisingly an excellent line and very economical. As for fluorocarbon, we like Seaguar - it is the original and the best.
@srstrikers We actaully have a whole web site specifically for fishign tips that you will find very helpful. It's called Thundermist Fishing Tips
Just go do a google search for Thundermist Fishing Tips and our site will come up. You will be able to scroll through each page or search for something in particular.
@411sponge Glad you enjoyed the video - yes, the procedure is exactly the same for a closed faced reel (i.e know as a spin-cast reel), but not the same for a bait casting reel.
NICE i just got into fishing a few months ago and ive been wondering how to put on some new stronger line. good stuff. im glad people took the time to make this, its ten times better to watch someone do it then try and read how.
i took my reel to a fishing shop to spool it for me ( wish i hadn't ) ..... i think these tips will definately help........one question though..... how will i if im spooling it too tight / loose ...... is there an easy fix so i dontneed to worry about it? thanks
@uktaz28 If your line is too tight or too loose, it would be best to let out all your line from your spool and then reel it back in slowly and apply a bit of pressure. If you are in a boat, you can let your line out while trolling and then reel it in - otherwise, you can do this in your yard as well.
If your line is too loose, it could tangle on you - if it's too tight, it could jam up on you while casting and break your line.
Thanks for writing in, good luck on the water and good fishing.
@deIeteThisComment Thanks for writing in and for teh feedback - We did a re-take of this video, with blackened line - you can check it out on our you tube channel.
The re-take is also filmed in HD, so you will like it much better. Until next time, good fishing.

nice vid but i think you should of added
get good reals this i think is the most important thing anything upwords of 40 dolars should be fine at least for small stuff and chage your line at least once a sesson as it will weekin with abrasion sunlight and water. also make shure all the eyes of your rod are intact

The beginning is a little tough to understand at first but just try it and you will figure it out. It worked great for me and I had someone hold the line which helps a lot.
crow3601 1 year ago
@crow3601 Thanks for sharing this with our viewers as we are glad you liked the video and that we were able to help. We did do a better version and when you view this version, there should be a pop-up that you can click to take you to the HD version which would be better to see....although it looks like you have done just fine.
Thanks for tuning in and good lcuk on the water.

do u recomend puttin the spool on the ground?
Dodaderf 1 year ago
@Dodaderf If you do not have someone to hold your spool, you could put the spool on the ground...just be sure it is "wrapping off the spool of line as shown in the video. If you can get someone to hold your spool, it would be preferred.
Until next time, good fishing.
P>S> we have plenty more tips on our Thundermist Fishing tips web site.

this video sucks a whole lot, your way was too fast especially in the beginning and u just expect people to get it the first time. go a little slower and i tried to make a fucking loop and the another loop around the open faced reel and it never snagged together and would always open up. THIS VIDEO SUCKS, make a better one thats slower and zoomed in better, i couldnt see the string in the beginning for my life...when you make a better video then post that up onto youtube and send it to me
hossein755 1 year ago
@hossein755 guess you missed that massive annotation at the beginning of the video that says "click here to view the new/better version."
HerosRequiem 1 year ago
@hossein755 Thanks for writing in. We have since made another version, filmed in HD which we think you will like much better.
When you start to watch this video, click on the notation that appears and this will take you to the HD version.
This is a great method to avoid line twist and we hope you find it helpful. Thanks again for writing in and until next time, good luck and good fsihing.
thundermistlures 1 year ago
@thundermistlures what line would you recommend for a mitchell 300xe spinning reel im using 20lbs test (i dont wanna loose my 10$ lures) but the line quality seems poor, it doesnt last too long and gets tangled easy...it was 10$ cnd line dont know the name brand..i know the test lbs is more than recommended for the reel (is that whats causes the tangles) thnks!
thegreatcb7 1 year ago
@thegreatcb7 That's a nice reel you have - suggest going down to 10 lb test line. 20lb test monofilament line is very "springy" ("coily") and is better suited for a bait casting reel.
If you are really worried about loosing lures, you can always use a 20 lb. braided line (like Power Pro). which is thin in diameter & better for your reel. With braid, be sure to use a leader line of fluorocarbon.
Check out our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site for more great tips & info on line. Good fishing
thundermistlures 1 year ago
@thundermistlures thnks a lot for your reply! i ended up buying 10lbs Sufix performance green braided line..had good reviews, i cant wait to try it out in the spring! :)

What are your thoughts on brands of line? I've been using Vicious fishing line I've had some luck with that --What brands do you like?
F15h1NGGuy 1 year ago
@F15h1NGGuy We like to use Stren, P-Line & Mustad line - but for the value, it's hard to beat Bass Pro Shops Excel brand....it is surprisingly an excellent line and very economical. As for fluorocarbon, we like Seaguar - it is the original and the best.
Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water!

Excellent video! Thank you very much! One question: Is the procedure the same for a closed faced fishing reel?
411sponge 1 year ago
@411sponge Glad you enjoyed the video - yes, the procedure is exactly the same for a closed faced reel (i.e know as a spin-cast reel), but not the same for a bait casting reel.

i took my reel to a fishing shop to spool it for me ( wish i hadn't ) ..... i think these tips will definately help........one question though..... how will i if im spooling it too tight / loose ...... is there an easy fix so i dontneed to worry about it? thanks
uktaz28 1 year ago
@uktaz28 If your line is too tight or too loose, it would be best to let out all your line from your spool and then reel it back in slowly and apply a bit of pressure. If you are in a boat, you can let your line out while trolling and then reel it in - otherwise, you can do this in your yard as well.
If your line is too loose, it could tangle on you - if it's too tight, it could jam up on you while casting and break your line.
Thanks for writing in, good luck on the water and good fishing.
