  • Hi Maangchi. I used large chunks of carrot instead of potato because I wanted to make it a little sweeter and it turned out really well. I hope you are not horrified by that substitution!

  • "feed them some spicy chicken and they will die" LOL i died laughing XDD

  • Am I the only one who watches this while eating normal, boring food?

  • I made this and it was soo delicious! But way too spicy for me... Is there a way to make this less spicy?

  • @jummuu Use less hot pepper flakes or use mild version hot pepper flakes. Check out the photo in the ingredient section on my website. Happy cooking!

  • I would eat this for lunch any day looks very good!

  • Anyong Haseyo!

I made this for dinner tonight after lusting over this video and also Googling extensively about this dish and my god, was it good!!!!

I did read on someone's cooking blog that ketchup is a secret ingredient and I love the stuff so I squirted some in and boy, oh boy did it make this stew even better!! Do try it too Maanchi!

i want a houseboat now. and braised chicken :(

  • I just tried your recipe!!! Just finished my first bowl. I didn't have any hot pepper powder so I added dried whole red chilies with the garlic and threw both in the food processor. Added them to the rest of the paste mixture and the dish came out delicious!!! Thanks so much.

  • This sounds good right about now. It is cold & raining here. I'm going to make this later. All I need is to go to the market to grab a few things. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe. Happy cooking!

  • @cy24 awesome, let me know how yours turns out. yummy!

  • @Maangchi It was hearty, spicy & delicious! It warmed me up on a cold & rainy day. I would have taken a picture, but I ate it all.

  • how come the minced garlic looks green? Can i simply make minced garlic by cutting the garlic into pieces? :p

  • @wisherdream Yes you can. Does it look green? Maybe because of lighting? BTW, the garlic I used in the video was fresh garlic and minced in a blender. We minced a lot of garlic for making huge batch of dakbokkeumtang for the meetup that night. I always use fresh garlic.

  • maangchi onni u sounded so cute when u said i wish i could give you some food awww lol

  • Whats the ingredients for Hot pepper paste?

  • Hey Maangchi thanks for another delicious video! I am your big fan. I always wanted to meet you in Toronto but it never worked. Now I'm moved back to Germany and if you visit again Europe then you're more than welcome to stay at our place. I'm not saying I mean it :-)

  • @symna Thanks a lot! Oh you used to live in Toronto, too!

  • @Maangchi I lived in Germany then moved to Toronto and when I came to Toronto you moved to States. I missed meeting you when you met some of your fans in Korean Restaurant. Maybe we'll meet in Germany, we have Korean community in Frankfurt but Korean Restaurants' food is very expensive and has not authentic taste. I miss Korean food, its one of the best cuisine and its really sad that its not so popular in Germany.

  • @symna oh~ Thank you for explaining this. Someday I hope we can meet up each other. Meanwhile, happy cooking!

  • such an easy recipe and delicious result!! thank you maangchi for sharing this recipe :)

my friend who has tried the recipe said that adding zucchini works too so i did and it was very delicious!

  • Add udon to the left over liquid

  • can't wait to get my own kitchen and cook all your nice recipes :/

  • I just finished eating this & it was very delicious! The only thing was that the chicken started to stick to the bottom when the potatoes were cooking and the sauce for me got really thick. I just added some more water & it turned out AMAZING! Thanks for posting this recipe! I always see people eating this in dramas :)

  • @Big2BangHeyGirl : ) now you can make it! Great, isn't it? This is super easy recipe. I'm very happy to hear that yours turned out delicious! Happy cooking!

  • i added a couple of carrots and a sweet potato......it was great! i also ate it for lucy the next day.......yummy! it was simple to make. I used thighs instead of wings and it worked beautifully.

  • @hcnitx great news!

  • @palomechas ah, thank you very much! Happy New Year! : )

  • @ParkLeeNa thanks

  • Can you give us the Asian black bean paste recipe ..Usually made in Korean black bean noodles? Thanks

  • Don't forget to add ramyun base soup...! (Just kidding)

  • @makkein Somebody watch Family Outing.. ? :P

  • Can you use other vegetables, such as zucchinis?

  • @megatron74 I think you would have to add them to the very very end, cuz they would get very mushy if you added them too soon.

  • @maangchi How come you boil everything so hard? I burned this recipe a little bit because you really have to watch and shake/stir at such high heat. Think you need to consider doing simmer version. Crazy high heat for 30 minutes?

    Not practical.

    Still love you, Bai!

  • "1..2...3 ... Hi everybody!" <-- So cute!

  • oh maangchi. I love your cooking. i wish you safe travels and many more dishes. =] Love it =]

  • Love your Dutch girl cap--so cute.

Making this now with chicken thighs. Thinking about doing a curry version with cumin, coriander and turmeric. Who knows?

  • i love it!

  • the original paprikash is similar to this though im not sure is it this hot (we always made it moderate-to-low hot) but if u add more rice in it then it becomes dyu-vech.

    everything is connected somehow... :)

  • maangchi, i tried this and it was really good! very tasty :) maangchi, im happy we were in the same continent lol!

  • @srainy Cheers! : )

  • I have a cold, and I think this dish would cure it lol

  • oh my~ that reaaaaaaaaaaally looks so yummy! >_<

  • This is one of my favs. Glad you finally made a video!

  • I just watched this again and I drooled (AGAIN) at the part when the sauce was made...--

or MAYBE maangchi's just TOOO awesome!! ^^

  • U have to get your own cooking show!!!!!

  • I really enjoyed seeing you out and about in Amsterdam! How fun! Looking forward to seeing more of the world with you and seeing more cooking.

  • @yoyomax12 Thank you very much!!

  • 대박! the sauce itself looks amazing (love gochujang) this dish seems very similar to deokbeokki.

haha i made some bibimbap sauce (gochujang + (lime juice+ sugar water) instead of sprite since i had none) and put it on some boiled mandu~ amazing...

  • omgoodness I'm drooling! I'm so gonna make this!!!!!!!!! I love spicy foods! ^.^

  • as usual! it looks wonderful! Happy New Year Maangchi! I wish you more good luck in the new year!

  • Ahhhhh, this makes me LOVE spicy food. Potatoes and spicy is my favourite. I miss my mum's cooking. I wonder if Egypt will have the ingredients available when I move there in a couple of months.

  • Isn't the potatoe kinda undone after 20minutes? o.o

  • I cooked this yesterday! but I put too much salt and peper..so the taste was not that great! btw u visited my country! haha

  • Can I sub something for the red pepper paste or leave it out? It's hard to find here.

  • "ohhhhmahhhgahd su cyoote!" -maangachi

i love asian accents! or just accents in general but asian accents are my fave <3

  • i had a green time there

  • You're so cute! Can I request something not too spicy? My brother and I aren't spicy food people but we love Korean food. Something a bit sweeter? Our family has lots of chicken and fish on hand to help narrow it down :]

  • @ThEePiCgOoFyKiD Check out my "Braised chicken with vegetables" recipe. It's on YouTube. It's not spicy.

  • @ThEePiCgOoFyKiD check out her dakjjim recipe on her website maangchi dot com! :) it's not as spicy and just as good ^_^!

  • The only thing I would do differently is to take the chicken out before reducing the sauce, as boiling protein often renders it quite tough.

  • that lipstick looks pretty on you

  • I want to go to a digital rice steamer that will cook wild rice, brown rice, short grain rice ,and long grain rice and barely. But if I spend money I want to know if it is a better quality brand over tiger brand. I am wanting to upgrade my rice cooker. I can read Korean but my Korean is not very strong. That was my weakest area when learning in school. my writting was next. I haven't spoken Korean in 9yrs so it is very broken when I speak it. I just want to know what brand is better quality.

  • @sweatonme1 try cuckoo it's a korean brand...won't break the bank + they make high quality cookers that is suited for the type of rice you want to make.

  • YOU WERE IN MY COUNTRY AND I DIDNT KNOW?! ...Life is unfair..

  • Yummy! 3 *tries*

  • @sweetfeat1

Try going to Bloor & Christie (Korea Town). Theres a really good Korean market there called P.A.T. They have a good selection of products. =)

  • @Lolihime66 oh I used to shop there! : )

  • she love hot pepper paste lol

  • Great job! It looks delicious :)

  • Ohm nom nom i want food ! lol

  • I wanna make this looks soooo good.

  • i love the lipstick color and outfit maangchi :D

  • What are good markets in Toronto?

  • @sweetfeat1 The best markets are in North York, i.e. between Finch and Thornhill. One is called Galleria which is near Yonge/Steeles, and another good one is PAT which is a bit north of Steeles on Yonge; finally there's H-Mart. Actually there's a much larger Galleria in Toronto somewhere but I forget the location, York Mills maybe? Go to the Galleria SM website, it has the address. Pretty much everything you need for Korean cooking is there :DD

  • can we subsitue the sugar for something like Splenda or Turvia?

  • @cheelee good idea! Or skip sugar. It will still be a little sweet because of onion. Happy cooking!

  • I love your lipstick! It's so bright on a dreary winter day like today!

  • omgeeee! I literally drooled as u guys were making the sauce...

can't wait to try this recipe-3

  • OMG YOU'RE HERE?!

  • How ironic that it's a rainy cold day to cook a delicious-looking hot meal as Sara said she always ordered this dish when it was a cold day. You two looked like you had fun. I'm going to try this recipe tomorrow since it's cold and pouring down rain right now. I'll post the photos on Maangchi's Site :D Thanks for another wonderful recipe! :)
