Hey Benny, I'm a Hong Kong born Chinese American. Did you know who stopped WWII in China? 2 US Atomic bombs. Do you know how many Chinese were killed by the Communist during the Cultural Revolution? 100 million people. My family escaped China to HK b/c they had money and were considered enemy of the state. I understand your sympathy toward the Chinese condition since WWII, but the cultural revolution was not caused by the West. Millions escaped to HK with their lives at stake b/c of this regime.

I am a Chinese-born Canadian citizen at Duke. The conduct of the Chinese graduate students and scholars in this matter has been abhorrent. They have made Chinese-Americans and Chinese-Canadians ashamed of their ancestry. For a long time to come China will the laughing stock of the world. One silver lining I see is that Chinese-Americans (and Chinese Canadians) on campus have reacted with collective horror. Quietly we have been supporting Grace Wang in tangible and concrete ways.

This episode is a clash of values. The educational system in the West (as well as in Asian democracies like South Korean, Japan and Taiwan) encourages and celebrates the type of independent thinking that Grace has exhibited. I remember how the government immediately redoubled its effort to brainwash students.

I am a Chinese-American student at Duke. I can say that most Chinese-American (I should say Asian-American)students have been very supportive of Ms. Wang. The hall-mark of a strong nation is giving people the right to think for themselves. China needs more Grace Wangs if it wants to become a major global power.

I will end by saying that I am glad that my parents left China so that I did not have to grow up with the Fenqing.

I spent 2 weeks in China just last year. Have you been to the US? I live here and it's great. Even with all the recent things going on with China nobody has been racist against me. I went to a rodeo 3 days ago and had a great time. And if you don't like what's on TV just turn it off (gee...!). What CNN did was wrong, but the way Chinese people have responded is 100x worse.
