ok...i thought there was a 1.8 turbo....anyways...so if i put a turbo kit on my escort, do i have to do anything to the engine internals, or can i just but the kit and bolt it on....

@313stratus as far as i know, they only turboed the 1.6 in protege. look into the familia gtr and gtx (aka 323)because those had the same basic engine with improvements of course. in regards to the transmission, i'm not sure considering the familias were 4 wheel drive rally cars. you should be able to just drop a turbo in your car with mods here and there (especially the ECU). they should handle 9 psi easy.

@DiVlJaKzzzz Well in the case of the Escort and Probe, Ford came to the realization that they couldnt make a decent engine or chassis, so they stole mazda stuff. The entire escort chassis 91-03 is of mazda design. Any parts from 90-94 Protege/323/MX3/ and even 94-97 Kia Sephia all interchange, they are all Mazda BG Chassis. as well as the probe, also mazda chassis.

@DiVlJaKzzzz Our Toyota's have been built here in the US for years. Back I think in the late 90's Toyota had a cavalier. Guess what it was. Our lawnmowers use Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh and Kohler engines mostly same with Chainsaws, unless it is a Honda mower or saw. Most Coffee Makers are made in China or Taiwan. You're logic is just ridiculous. The original SHO engine was Yamaha and the GT was a 1.8 Mazda. Does it even occur to you that Ford owns Mazda?

My '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse came with a 420A Chrysler motor, and my '99 Chrysler Cirrus came with a 6G73 Mitsubishi motor. The running joke is that I had to buy a Chrysler to get a Mitsubishi motor. lol

To top it all off, I also had a '93 Chrysler Lebaron with a 6G72 Mitsubishi motor. My girlfriends' '99 Acura SLX has a 6VE1 Isuzu motor. The Cologne 2.9 in my '86 Ford Bronco II was made in Germany. The only 100% American vehicle I've ever owned is my '67 Chevy C10 stepside,

these were sold in Australia as a 1.6 and 1.4 litre carby motor, an injected 1.8 SOHC a 1.8 DOHC and the fuckin cracker car...the 1.8litre DOHC turbo which came in a choice of front wheel drive or all wheel drive (google Ford Laser KE Turbo 4WD) was an awesome car! Had the previous model (KE Laser TX3 1.6litre Turbo 4WD) and it was just as awesome.....

But I have said it before, what the fuck is with that Escort GT grille?? Check the Aussie version, i reckon it's much better...

No internal engine mods since the engine is factory built for boost, get a complete JDM GTX turbo setup or import the complete JDM GTX swap and drop it in with ECU and add one wire from TPS to VAF
