Much respect to the great cowboy and one of the best poker players to live on this earth- Doyle goddamn Texas fucking Dolly Bad-ass Brunson.

I got to play with him in 1998. I saved up 5k and went to the Bellagio. This was a 9 man tourney. I raised Ac-Kh and Bruson called.

The board came: Ad 6c Kc.

I checked and he checked.

The Turn came: 8c. I didn't like all the clubs so I raised 500 chips.

The river came: 9c.

I sat there with an A-high flush. I felt like the man. The raised initially 250 chips. Then, he called. The board flopped and we both checked. Then, on the turn I bet double the pot 500 chips. He quickly called. I felt like I had it won.

So I raised 1500. Doyle announced "All-In!" Thus raising me 1500 more. I had to call. The pot was huge and both of us were all in.

I turned up the ace-high flush.

Doyle turned up 7c 10c. The straight flush.

I had just spent 4k and went broke. I felt sick to my stomach and Doyle must have been able too tell.

I walked to him and shook his hand and said nice playing Dolly. He looked at me and smiled and said- did I put you broke? And I said "yes sir, but as long as it was by the great."

He reached and grabbed his wallet and handed me 2k smiled and said- "half should get you half way home or to another game."

I thanked him and got a picture with him.

True. It's not exactly fun to get broke by a legend but it is an honor. He's a great player- a sharp player. Something, I didn't add to the story is he also told me that many people perpetuate that hold em' is mostly skill- but that in his older age he has come to understand it's very much luck. That's why he plays premium hands generally. Wish I could have talked to him longer, soothing voice, good, calm Texan. Great man and a legend as well.

Wow. Yeah, I'm sure that it's a true story. I was there when it happened. I still have that picture of me and Doyle in my lock-box. I already made it apparent I'm not rich but I had saved a lot of money and I went to Vegas. Dolly seemed to be in a very cheerful mood and was sitting at a lower limits table. He seemed very social. It's strange because of TV he's not very social. But that's a true story and one I love to tell. Greatest memory ever! Sorry you are angry.

Doyle didn't recall the hand he played with Stuey Ungar quite correctly. Stuey had 4-5 of spades, not 3-4 as Doyle said. Therefore as the flop was A-7-2 the turn card was a 3 completing Ungar's gutshot straight draw. Stuey made a modest bet as he was the first one to act and Doyle responded with an all-in raise. Needles to say Stuey called with his nuts. Doyle didn't catch an ace or a seven on the river card to make a full house so Stuey won the championship.
