  • 5:38 looks like the granny was about to fall asleep haha

  • @misterbillylicious Actually Duckpin is significantly harder than tenpin bowling. Learn your facts!

  • @gamemeister27 it's amazing how many negative comments I get on these duckpin videos from people who just say that tenpin is much harder and more of a "real sport." I never thought people would get so upset-- especially if they just did their research (or even just watched the videos) and were able to understand the facts... How many perfect games are rolled in 10pin every day? These commenters should try bowling a game of duckpins and see how they do!

  • @sjaffe I've never even glimpsed a duckpin alley, but I have access to the internet (as they obviously do) and it becomes painfully obvious that scoring in tenpin is much easier overall than duckpin or candlepin. Candlepin appears to be about 20 pins harder than duckpin judging by the best averages and high score (150's to 130's and 279- 255 or so). Those averages are worse than the best tenpin bowlers by 70-100 or so pins.

  • Kindly tell the people at Barnum Bowl to straighten out the American Flag. It's not supposed to be "drooping" or "sagging" as theirs is.

  • I LOOVEEE duckpin!! I've been playing duckpin for over 18 years now.

  • Just did some duckpin bowling this weekend in Towson Maryland... LOTS OF FUN for the whole family ...

  • (1) The background music at the beginning was also the theme of the filmed TV series "Championship Bowling" in the 50s & 60s; I wonder if there is more than 1 YouTube clip of THAT available....(2) Not meaning to demean duckpins, but I wonder how many d'pin bowlers have tried their hand at candlepins in New England. Quite the challenge.

  • @cd637299 Duck pins is MORE of a challange then Candle pins and i've played candlepins before

  • @supersasukemaniac it's a known fact that duck pins scores higher... what do you mean by "challenge"?

  • I didn't say that 5 pin is only in Western Canada. I know it is in every province in Canada, and 2 of the territories. And to say that the majority of the lanes in Quebec in crazy, as 5 pin is only played in the Gatineau region. Quebec favours rubber banded duckpins. All I was stating is that 5 pin is the most popular form of bowling in Western Canada. Need proof? There are only 4 tenpin only centres here in Alberta, and there's NO tenpin only centres in Saskatchewan.

  • In the U.S., it's all about money and perception. Duckpins is a more difficult game than tenpins (there has NEVER been a perfect duckpin game). Since it's easier to score 300 in tens, and with our "U.S. as No. 1" mentality, the money has always flowed there.

Plus, as much as a lot of Americans may not agree, most babyboomers grew up on the Flintstones and the Honeymooners. And with TV, perception can be everything in terms of shaping one's adulthood.

  • Well, I think history has a lot to do with it, too. Fivepin bowling was invented in Canada's first bowling alley in Toronto and has spread throughout Canada. Duckpins, unfortunately, didn't it make throughout America. I think if duckpins would have made it to California, things would be different entirely. We grew up with the Flintstones and the Honeymooners, here, too. But the difference is fivepin was the most popular game here before those TV shows have came out.

  • Perhaps you are right. I'm not too sure if I agree (we'll never know for sure).

I just think that Americans generally are so consumer-driven and perception-driven that even if duckpins made it to CA, it would be like the hula-hoop and super-soaker guns: popular for a minute (and money-making), then gone.

Plus, bowling is driven, I think, by comraderie and family, things that are going by the wayside here. Too much individualism here.

  • It really surprises me that duckpins aren't more popular that 10 pin in the U.S. Here in Western Canada, our very similar 5 pin game is so popular, that 10 pin isn't even available in most of the bowling alleys. Duckpin bowling has the same advantages over 10 pin that 5 pin has, so it's hard to believe why duckpins aren't more popular.

  • you really need to travel a bit out of your town because to say that 5-pin is Western Canada's is possibly the stupidest thing i've ever heard. The majority of the lanes are located in Ontario and Quebec, and it was invented in Toronto

  • Because Canadians are behind in everything in life LOL!
