No, this should not be remade, or get a part two. This movie is brilliant as it is. Leave it alone! Don't diminish it's value by making stupid sequels or gritty remakes!
After this movie was made their was a UFO that crashed, near the sight of where the movie was made at . The United States Government covered it up as a train accident. The soldiers that arrived there were told to tell the civilians, that a train derailed with toxic chemicals on board . They would not anyone go to the sight. My father was one of the Army soldier that was their guarding roads and paths that lead to the sight of the UFO crash . That's my proof
what if Jesus Christ was, in fact, an alien messenger from outter space, sent to Earth to teach us, humans, the ways of the alien race that's behind our creation? the Bible would definitely make so much sense [at least to me]
Hi blablaidocarewhour..Okay...got your message. I just have always wanted a part two since he made the first. Where did he go with the ET's? What happens when he comes back..what did he learn to help us advance etc. I guess we just have to fantasize about it, don't think Spielberg will ever indulge us.
@Skaterblood1 I too remember watching the re-release "special edition" with my parents in the theater when I was in the first grade. It blew my little kid mind!
when i saw the beginning of the trailer to super 8 i thought spielberg had remade this movie never mind i have to say would would prefer a sequal to close encounters rather than a remake come on steven get your finger out and start doing some follow ups to thoughs great movies from the 70s and 80s if you want to smash box office records again its the only way forward trust me i know what i,m talking about
@miediev999 That's true, it is "just a movie". However, many people actually believe this movie is more then just entertainment and that it portrays alien life as witnessed by people since Roswell etc. A lot of times Hollywood will take a nonfiction eyewitness phenomena and turn it into a fictional storyline to give their picture some believability. That's what this movie does.
This movie is silly. Three fingered beings are suppose to be able to engineer these highly structured sophisticated space machines? Not with their frail bodies and lack of proper articulation due to having only three fingers and being built like a 7 year old. Also, if they're able to function in the same environment as humans, that means they must exist in the same environment , and there's no way these beings would survive.
the thing i like about speilberg is he tries to get the truth out in some of his movies -the things seen in close encouters did happen may be not in the same places but the the government did meet with ets and there was an exchange of 16 people google william cooper or search on youtube also majestic 12 or grudge
does anybody know the title of film about a kid who sees through his window an alien spaceship landing and latter finds out that everybody in his school are aliens or controlled by aliens or something like that? i just remember that those people had plasters on the back of their necks. if you know the title of this film please tell me.
What can I say guys. This film is undoubtedly classic!!! Great & intriguing storyline, great acting and visual effects. Steven Spielberg is master. Richard Dreyfuss and Melinda Dillon did a great job as well. Our modern SCI-FI is trash compared to such classical movies like this one.
I found these messed up recently unveiled archives from feb, you gotta see them. You need to visit ufosecretXnet (replace X with . ) and then take a look through them!
I am in love with this film. I love the props, the direction, the actors, the props, the scenes, everything.
In fact, the first thing you see in the trailer (Roy's truck driving through the night) is my favorite shot in the film. It's so beautiful, seeing the stars in the dark sky; and the little truck driving along.
I also love how Spielberg uses the Air Traffic Control Center in this film.
I also love how beautiful and brightly colored the UFOs are :D
out of his alien films everyone seems to favor ET, but i prefer this one, theres something about the idea of a secret meeting between humans and aliens. if they were real, something like this would happen, how could something like another alien life possibly be introduced to the world? it would totally go against every religion on the planet. religious groups would try to destroy it. something like that could only ever be done secretly, hidden from the world.
Brilliant comment and as much as I hate to be a suck up I think you're dead right. Humanity is not ready collectively to experience this. That being said I can imagine a simple encounter that involves multiple ships hovering over every major city on the globe and video tape delivering the final blow to religion. I think they'd be wise to merely let us know they exist and then simply vanish without actual contact. I'd settle for that wouldn't you? By the way this is the greatest sci fi ever made.
I don't really see aliens as contradictory to my Christianity. And I think it would be cool to meet some. At my church, we'd invite them over to hang out.
Yeah definatley, I think video tape evidence wouldnt be enough though, theres always some joker who would try to make it out to be fake. The only way they could realize would be to have actual contact, and even then religous groups wouldnt want to beleive it, or maybe make it out to be their own God.
yh and no one would notice that a huge spaceship hovers in the sky lol.... there is no way they could keep something like that secret for a long time.
@darthvadermasterchie Yes, this is... "HOLLYWOOD." But consider the build up in this film, and the lengths of secrecy and security, Government goes to in order to make contact. If Aliens were ever real, obviously I doubt they would look as over the top as they do here, but this was the "70s," we have to accept back then, alot more people were interested in the idea of Aliens, sci-fi in general, than they are today.
Spielberg hits it or he doesn't. There are many instances where his films are too often drenched with sentimentality. In other words, some of his works are extremely overrated. BUT... on Close Encounters... he gets it.... it's an utterly brilliant movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
77 was a great year with Close Encounters and Star Wars altogether a few years on ET. This movie to me amazes me - they had no CGI this is still a realistic film to watch

Fo a Spielberg movie this was amazingly boring. Though it isn't really his fault but the script wrtiers's... The only thing I found interesting enough in this movie was the fact that the little boy in the beginning who got lost is almost exactly look-a-like with my big brother at that age. Not even just during some faces but all the time. It's creepy.
And i don't think its boring. Well when i first watched this movie was like 10 years old and now I'm 36. It had a huge impact on me about space and aliens.
so what happened when he went on the ship with those dudes in the red suits? and when they return will they have aged? also lplease tell me what kind of lives did all those "returnees" end up having, that would have been more interesting!
@vonlossberg Wow. How can you love this film and want more. The beauty that comes from this film is its ambiguity and vagueness which is ruined in the Special Edition.
Amazing Film -- 30 years later and it still tops my list as the best motion picture I have ever seen -- quite the accomplishment for Spielberg considering that he was not yet 30 when the film was completed. The DVD Ultimate Edition is much appreciated.

they should do a remake of this (2012 version). and bring back Dreyfuss to the cast. that would be worth waiting for.
