You don't count a pet separate from the player, it's a mechanic they have to use. That's like saying a Bubble isn't part of the paladin mechanics, or blinking isn't part of the mage mechanics.

In the beta discussion some Blues have confirmed that these Devilsaurs are part of the planned "exotic pets" that the 51 pt talents lets you tame.

Though I'm sure they'll suffer down-sizing and probably won't have much more to offer than a normal raptor class pet.
