In 2004 I traveled to Normandy and saw the guns at Brecourt Manor. Life changing experience. Some of Shifty's friends are buried just above the Omaha Beach.

I grew up just down the road from Mr. Powers...First, he lived in Clinchco, Va not Clintwood, Va...Second, there will never be a generation of heroes like him and those like him that answered the call to defeat the Nazi's! I am an airborne infantry veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and I earned my Combat Infantrymans Badge in Al-An Bar Province and I am proud to have earned the right to be called an American but they're sacrifices made it possible for us all to live like Americans! I've known shifty. From Clintwood Va in Dickenson County. People lable us down there as rednecks but we're proud of it and at least we don't denie our roots. He was tough and stood strong. I am the son of World War Two Vet. To me all of them are Heroes and part of an extended family. Just remember them as long as you live. Teach you children about them and what they did, and why it's important to remember their deeds, and to pass these ideals on to their children, and their children.
