its not about the gear in all accidents, IMO - the gear just makes you easier to scrape up, maybe not but that's what I think, I think it lulls you into a false sense of security, though I have had quite a few accidents without even a helmet or boots... motorcycling is just dangerous!

If you have two equally inexperienced motorists, one a motorcyclist and one the driver of a car, there's is probably equal probability both of them will cause an accident or be in one. But if you have an experienced motorcyclist surrounded by cagers who are either experienced or not, it's more likely that motorcyclist will be involved in an accident not caused by them exclusively.
