LOL "people've been criticizing my songs?" imagine that... that criticism wouldn't have anything to do with said songs being "pharmaceutically inclined" by any chance would it?
I've seen this video before. So, Steve Kilbey is interviewed in a church, but he does not act disrespectfully. All is plain to see.
Enough of my waffling. The Church are the one of the greatest bands of all time. The crime is that many more people can't see how brilliant they are. See 'em live - it's a real treat!
i am a follower of jesus christ, when i was19 / early twenties strung out this led me to church then jesus... there is nothing wrong with the name, or the lord works beyond our comprehenion..
I have a question. Why is he looking anywhere but the interviewer. The woman is much smaller than Steve, and he's looking upwards. He looks very uncomfortable aswell.
He seems very soft spoken, and fidgety. My guess would be that he is nervous. I know from my own experience that you tend to avoid eye contact with people when you are nervous. Or maybe he is distracted by something behind her or above her.
Weird to have them both standing for an interview. Doesn't seem too relaxing, would have preferred them sitting in the pews, but maybe they wanted to showcase the altar background.
I found them in 1988 like most Americans and have followed them ever since!
One of the Greatest bands of all time.Love all their records and cd's the've produced.Kilbey..very talented. How about you guys come up to Greece for a few gigs....you got lots of fans up here.
Still a great band no matter the name... They stayed true their music and it is some of the best out there. Every album has a great song if not many. The name The Church was a mistake.... hard for me to show others because of the stigma. As for this vid in a church.. yea kind of strange.. but marketing does not alway go as planned. Someone thought it would be a good idea. Sure like the name.. it was not.
Absolutely cheesey, candles and all. I reckon they regreted the name "The Church" for a long time, but then they tried to capitalize on the ooey mystery of it. But at this interview, OMG I'm sure they thought this was ridiculous.

It's refreshing to hear an interviewer who asks relevant questions yet doesn't try to say too much at once.
Kilbey's (and The Church's) songs have been with me for over twenty years, and my life is fuller because of them. Thank you, Steve.

Steve in a church, on the church......
The Chocolate bar bit is very funny,
And i love his idea of what a song is, and how people should not try to find meaning in it...

I really liked Steve's answer towards the end about taking song lyrics for what they are. Totally agree with his view on that point.
