  • This was listed in the book "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" and I had to listen for myself. It's exactly what I expected and for that reason I have to say this is bizarre. The music is way too upbeat for the lyrics. It's about an orphan girl who freezes to death, yet the music screams "good times!" Ah Youtube. You are way better than cable.

  • @GloriaD5767 Check out "I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself" by Elton John....

  • @gage992112 Thanks for the tip! I will do that.

  • @gage992112 Just did. The tap sounds in the bridge were a warped, but nice touch!

  • And BTW, always loved Bobby. He was one of the greatest.

  • I just love the fact that all these singers and other type of singers including Rock and Rollers are always compared to the Man the Original. The one and only "Chairman of The Board" Frances Albert Sinatra. There's only one.

  • bobby darin is my role model for life..........i've never been so inspired by another, through his spirit, personal story, and simply his music.

  • @mattdaddyful haha. You have no idea :)

  • me gusta

  • bobby 1#

  • wish i had seen you sing live. rip bobby

  • Bobby, you were a story teller, a bard and a class act. It's hard to tell the way he rocks it, but this is such a sad sweet song.

  • Big fan thanks for the post, just one thing; Bobby Darin's music was more edgy than Frank's plus he wrote most of his own music which guys like Frank, et al, really didn't do! But Frank was also awesome!!!

  • the man was as cool as the other side of the pillow..no offense to frank, dino & the rest of them, but this guy was the best..thx for putting this up gus..it's my favorite bobby darin song, and beyond the sea was my wedding song...

  • Waaay Cool!!!!

  • Give her the REAL thing!

  • I love how he moves, just letting the music flow through his body. You can tell he was loving every second and so was I.

  • Marianne (original middle given name "Ann") made artificial flowers for a flower shop. She did this at home. She was also a clerk, who sold real flowers, in the shop. She was the love of my life for 44 years. I will never stop loving her. She passed away July 18, 2011.

  • Incredible.

  • Thank you so much for posting this...my all time favorite song of his...I adore him and wish I could have seen him perform...what an entertainer!! And that voice...just amazing!! Going in my faves for sure!! Thanks again!!

  • God, I love this song, and have since it was first released.

  • God, I love this song, and have since it was first released.

  • Holy shit that was awesome! Darin was untouchable!

  • gone too soon! rip bobby

  • the guy was as cool as the other side of the pillow, and as smooth as a baby's behind. sorely missed. rest in peace...

  • Bobby Darin was just amazing! How sad that he died too soon!

  • Good singer,great band,awful song!

  • On which dvd is this featured? Thank you for posting...love Bobby!

  • @grandye20 "Bobby Darin - Mack Is Back" (1973). The show was taped and never shown due to his dying before the show was edited for broadcast. The DVD is the full, unedited hour and a quarter-ish show. It's astonishing to see.

  • I am a singer who does vocal impersonations of Sinatra, Martin & Darin. I love Darin. His songs are fun to sing and upbeat. He always had great arrangements & took songs that were often done as ballads and swung them! I will also tell you that his songs are fun to sing because they are easier to sing than many Sinatra Songs. Sinatra songs sound easy to sing only because Sinatra made them SOUND easy. When you actually try and duplicate Sinatra, you"ll know why he was and still is, The Best Ever.

  • @FrankieSands1 I agree. I sing karaoke, pretty seriously, and some of what Sinatra sang - "My Heart Stood Still," "I Have Dreamed" - is incredibly hard to sing. Darin is fun. Sinatra set the standard but, Hey!, there's room for everyone. But, if you're singing this kind of music, it's always Sinatra you're compared to. Like it or not, Sinatra set the standard. What I admire about Darin is that he was his own man; he got over trying to beat Sinatra at his own game. He got a lot done in 37 years.

  • Connick. Buble. Botticelli. They just don't make 'em like Darin anymore.

  • A real, honest to God, showman.

    He's still missed.

  • Kevin Spacey gives the most amazing performance in Beyond The Sea. And he sings it all too.. AMAZING! Check it out if you are a real fan of Bobby Darin.

  • I love him, but he had nothing on Ol' blue eyes.

  • Love Bobby Darin! He was the best!!!!

  • I love it back then when people could sing live without lip singing.

  • he was great however like with all the rest they are compare to the best Sinatra

  • dARIN'S stage presence ranks with ...STREISAND, SINATRA, JOHN DENVER, DIANA ROSS and GARLAND...........INCREDIBLE ; HE CAN BRING HOME A SONG. WHAT SET BOBBY APART WAS HIS LOVE OF BROADWAY SHOW TUNES....he would open his act with: HELLO YOUNG LOVERS, ON THE STREET WHERE YOU LIVE, GETTING TO KNOW YOU, HELLO DOLLY.........

    Pure unadultrated magic.

  • Bobby Darin could easily have Sinatra nad the whole rat pack for breakfast.

A legend and number one by far..

  • @billtox have to agree 100% with you there!

  • @billtox Couldn't agree more that this cool dude would have put Sinatra in the shade.

If Matt Monro hadn't left this world prematurely he would also have robbed Sinatra of much of the limelight.

  • @bobcooper31 Oh...Matt Monro!!! Respect!!!!!!

    indeed dude...indeed...:)

  • @billtox I agree Bobby was The man but let's not GO THAT FAR!!!

  • @mattdaddyful - why not?

  • @mattdaddyful Comparing Darin to Sinatra is apples and bowling balls,to create a new analogy....Sinatra had purity of voice, and career longevity over Bobby Darin.Thats it! As a musician,Darin played 6 or 7 instruments well, wrote 170 songs, produced successful songs from the booth for other artists, was a stand-up comic, brilliant mime, and an acclaimed actor....all in about ten years...Sinatra had over 40. Darin gets the nod over Sinatra,as the best performer/musician/talent.Ever!

  • @mattdaddyful My reply is full of respect.Dont take it in a wrong way. :)

  • @billtox No Worries..You make a lot of GREAT POINTS..A LOT!!!I like them BOTH but you have a POINT..God Bless

  • @billtox What did you think about the MOVIE????They made about HIM..I cant think of the ACTORs Name...But Im curious to what you thought my friend..

  • @mattdaddyful Kevin Spacey was brilliant! The whole production was great!Even Kate Bosworth as Sandra Dee was in the role 100%!

A movie that everyone has to have...:)

  • I had the honor to be at this mans walk of fame induction, and sang this song live with is band , in his honor for the Heart FundAssociation. Nobody does it better than Mr Darin. Truly a gem of a guy and so dynamic. You are so missed Bobby.

  • CAN HE BE ANY SMOOTHER AND AWESOME THAN THIS ....!

  • This live version sound okey with all things considered. When it comes to these r&r hits from the Doowop era, I find it dose make a difference when their done live as the never sound quite the same as the original...like this one for instance, but again this version still sounds okey. I don't notice it so much with the newer r&r, in fact I like the Backstreet Boys & Nsync concerts better than I do the original recordings for some reason or another. Thx4 postin'

  • What a great singer the best ever

  • Bobby Darin was the best. And he gets better with age.

  • I so love this guy!! He just tore up that song!

  • Thanks for this clip. I'd never seen Darin sing this live.

  • Can't get enough of this video! He was amazing.

I hope you are well, Gus! Merry Christmas to you, and yours, my friend! :)

  • @singingkid likewise my friend, have a great festive time!

  • MAN EVERYONE HAS GOOD TASTE! 0 DISLIKES!

  • @PersausDcw pssst don't say that!

  • Bobby Darin was as good a singer as any of them duirng his career.

  • I love this well played and sang Lovely Site great videos cheeeeers

  • Back to watch again. Bravo, Bobby! Can't thank you enough, Gus, for uploading this clip! :))

  • Damn that was good !

  • Wow he can take any song and just sing the heck out of it!!!!!. He was so much better than Sinatra here, but that's not even the point, he still isn't appreciated as he should be. He is a legend!!!!!!!

  • @jozzi1 So true. I dont know what it will take for people to talk about Darin in the same breath as Sinatra, Davis Jnr. Martin etc.

  • @jozzi1 i wouldn't worry about darin getting popular thanks to 2k using beyond the sea as the theme for bioshock his popularity has sky rocketed recetnley

  • I just love Bobby Darin - this is a great find - thanks for posting!

  • can you please tell me what dvd this is from? i must have it!

  • @POTZ123 'Bobby Darin Seeing is Believing' - Hyena DVD HYN 9350

  • @GusMcC cheers mate.

  • @GusMcC One of my favourites thanks for posting

  • This live version is as good as it gets at showing the Talent , confidence and swagger this ierncredible performer was blessed with!

As a performer and professional entertainer myself, he has made an impression on my life for the last 40years. My Father introduced Bobby Darin's music in the late sixties and we both adore and respect his great talent.

Thank you Bobby for your great gift to all of us.

    Your music will live on!!

  • A talent like this comes along so very rarely: singer, songwriter, record producer, actor. And he did it all so well. I remember hearing he had died, and how very sad that made me. Had his health allowed it, he would have been as big as Dean or Frank or anybody. Maybe bigger. Thanks for posting, Gus.

  • Omfg! What a performance. Easily one my top 10 favorite videos on YT. Excellent video quality.

  • Completely insane!

  • What does it say about you when you watch your own posts - Mr Bobby Darin, the King of Cool.

  • this song is going to be in fallout new vegas.......very good

  • A TRULY GREAT ENTERTAINER SINGING A TRULY GREAT SONG! THANKS FOR POSTING!!

  • INCREDIBLE! Every phrase and note delivered expertly. I cant express how much i love watching this performance, May you live Forever Bobby D!

  • He was so much better than Sinatra.

  • there's a kid starring on general hospital who looks just like bobby darin his name is bradford anderson he play damian spinelli computer geek but he can belt out a tune too.

  • Bobby was a magical singer: cool, suave and rhythmic beyond compare. Sinatra called him 'my heir apparent." He controlled an audience like no one before or since. Whether, jazz/swing, R&B, standard ballads, folk-rock, Country & Western, etc. this guy did it all and made it all look easy.

  • No singer ever swung as hard as Bobby. He was "cool" personified---like Sinatra with soul.

  • No singer ever swung as hard as Bobby. He was "cool" personified---like Sinatra with soul.

  • Fabulous!!!!! Bobby was so underrated.

  • Sinatra had nothing on this guy.

  • He was the best...

  • No singer ever swung as hard as Bobby. He was "cool" personified---like Sinatra with soul.

  • both small influences of mine.

  • Gus,

This is the only Darin arrg't that actually out-swings "Mack the Knife", especially the studio version. Thanks so much for this live version. Thank God it's not over-done. An absolute gem. Can you confirm if "Flowers" is originally from a show? If so, which one? I'm singer and along time Darin fan. Please be kind enough to view my channel at danrbiz@sbcglobaln with my own tribute to Darin.

    Keep up the good work!

    D.C. Hall

  • The song is originally from the Bock and Harnick musical "Tenderloin," but this arrangement sounds almost nothing like that one. The original sounds like an 1890s song.

  • victorian?

  • Sort of. The musical takes place in New York, so it's pretty American. The song is like "The Baggage-Coach Ahead."

  • @TheChivalricAge

Thanks for the info. Heard that it was, indeed, from "Tenderloin". Darin did almost same treatment of "Mack the Knife"; taking tunes from a different era and redefining them to point of making HIS versions the new standard.

  • THANKS THIS IS MAGIC

    BOBBYs STILL SWINGING

  • Thanks for posting this video. It's a great song by a great performer!

  • I love you Bobby

  • Bobby, you're the only one! Perfect!

    Thanks GusMcC1

    Carmen

  • Perfeito!

    -----------

    Perfect!

  • Talk about goosebumps! Wow! Darin was MAGIC! Thank you so much, Gus for sharing this amazing clip! 5 stars, and favorited! :)

  • Have this dvd, and am stunned every time I watch it! Thank you for posting this, I think it trumps the studio recording...still undecided...but thats good :)

  • I know what you mean. I just love the way he gave his own songs a different take from time to time - his phrasing in the live version is simply stunning

  • Exactly, his phrasing leaves me immobile. What a smooth man he was. And to think he'd only be 74...

  • Immoble isn't that far fetched of a word! Says it all, budski! Man, wasn't he better than ever here! :)

  • @singingkid Immobile is the perfect word!

PS - time for you two guys to dip back into the Two of a Kind album and do another gem! C'mon the motivation must be there now :-)

  • We may or may not be working on East of The Rockies ;)

  • That's "Immobile". My bad. ;)
