this song says it all. This is how diverse Pats music is all about. This song is more of a rock n roll than jazz. This is how they play with other stuff. Long lIve
yes young person this definately putts disney to shamelol. if you like pat matheny check out lee ritenhour he is also awesome. I like top drop an LA turnaround and have my tape deck full of this and the dead and do it lol . ps absolutely awesome
The original pat metheney is still the Gold Standard of his groups. I saw the first performance of this group in New York city and they smoked. Gottlieb and Egan gave this group an edge which can be seen on american Garage. this was the group that launced Pat metheney. And yes. Lyle Mays is an intregal part of the equation. Great musician and composer.
@allforch17 Plenty of bands play their songs live for months or sometimes even years before they record them. They try it out live first or if they write it on the road they don't wait until they get in the studio 6 months down the road, they play the tune at rehearsals and soundchecks and start including it in the show to develope it, especially improvising musicians like PMG.
I first saw this guy and his members in Spokane WA way back when...it was then and still today stands out as the best performance ever out of any single group or artist. Keep Drivin' Pat do love this music...SALUTE
The thing I like about music of this vintage is that there are no computerised musical instruments. A real drum kit, guitar, bass, and electric piano.
I got hooked on Metheny when he was with Gary Burton. It's amazing the journey he has taken since those early days. What a great musician and composer. The early PMG days were so much fun. Not many followers back then.
Dude, I was at a gig at the old Sanders Theater in Springfield, MA in April 81. Pat had already rolled out As Falls... a couple of years earlier. That night he played the rest of the album - a couple of months before its release - and several jams from Offramp. The place was half-full. The night was cold and gray. Freight trains barrelled by the place as we left. Awesome. Next thing I knew, the PMG was all about ice wine and pronouncements. Oh, well.
One of the first songs i used to transcripe for drums and play again and again... still love it!
