  • truly amazing playing... music for the soul

  • i guess 6 people don't know crap about musicality

  • This is great. I'm ripping the audio and this is going on my iPod alongside my chopin and motzart playlist

  • I think he was high when he made this.... I get the whole premises of changing a song for a cover, but he went a little far with that plan...

  • @filipeguitarrista83 if you only knew!

  • Comment removed

  • @filipeguitarrista83 haha now he says sorry after Jorden replies haha

  • @Cod4isllineed I was, but it wasn't an offense in the first place. I just didn't liked the improv. After all we don't have to blindly push ourselves to love everything that comes from the musicians we like, right?

  • @filipeguitarrista83

but in this case, i think u didn't know about music, sounds like u are too mainstream in music.

  • @johnmoncrot No, i actually love Pink Floyd. I have 7 of their cd's, and all DT albums and DVD's, including The Dark Side of The Moon cover. I'm also digging Devin Townsend Project, i think you can't get much underground than that. All in all the comment served as an experience of what i DON'T like to share. Scuza's to Jordan though, for trying to mess up his reputation, he has nothing to do with my problems. Back on my way to the Bright Side Of The Moon. x]

  • @Cod4isllineed My apology was for this is his channel, much like his home, and i expected the fans to reply me, not him. As soon as i saw he's active here, i apologized. x)

  • @Cod4isllineed And it also bothered me cause i too know what it's like having an euphoria espisode. My attempt was to connect and share, only.

  • @JCRUDESS your my hero. just wanted to throw that out there

  • @JCRUDESS Unfortunatelly i know, and i'm sorry i bashed at you, since it's not you *YOURSELF* whom i was mad at. I'm actually quite a fan of Dream Theater and your work, since SFAM.

  • @filipeguitarrista83 who said that music it's about organize?

  • @Crisrockin Good lord man, chill!

  • @filipeguitarrista83 It's a musical technique called rubato, often displayed by such ridiculously famous classical composers as Chopin. It is a swaying, flowing, direct expression of emotion that, when done well (as in this interpretation of Hey You) results in very soulful music.

  • @mitsubachi2 Good, i didn't know i was gonna poke on so many people's wounds. But i guess my major on Social Communications taught me a thing or two about myths, and how some people are almost as fanatic as kamikaze pilots.

  • @filipeguitarrista83 I did not mean for my comment to come off as preachy or annoyed: I was just trying to clarify a point. So far as being a musician, I am not a fanatic, but you might find people that are so musically passionate that they are indeed fanatics, and in this sense, I see no problem with fanaticism.

  • @filipeguitarrista83 Forgive me for any misunderstanding I might have caused.

  • @mitsubachi2 You didn't caused any, in fact you were pretty clear.

  • @filipeguitarrista83 Too fast for what? Do you really think he was playing it as a "cover tune" LOL.............

  • @badhandtim1 Yes i do recognize that now...What i was mad at at the time difficult to explain in a few words. But i already told him i was sorry, and i'm pretty sure that everyone who commented FANATICALLY NEGATIVE in my comment, also did lots of pretty bad things in their life too, so don't come here judging me as i did something absurd that YOU (whoever you are) didn't do it too to someone else. A little more EMPATHY to those who admit their mistakes please...

  • Comment removed

  • @filipeguitarrista83 i bet you can't even play a Gm on a piano and you are judging him ? how dare you ?

  • I came..

  • Please, show Drem Theater play PinkFloyd in Brazil, sory my English . Por favor façam um show no Brasil tocando Pink Floyd.... Por Favor...

  • @phaelo1982 I have the original DVD, and it rules! It would be a blast to have them playing it here!

  • Words evade me...this is just...WOW!

  • I wish they had a love button.......

  • Superb job on one of my favorite songs... completely blown away right now. 2 kudos

  • Yes quite a talent. But let's not underestimate the amount of study and practice that Jordan must put in, THAT'S the gift. You rock Jordan, wow.

  • This is fantastic. This is how I would imagine this song had Keith Emerson wrote it. Superb interpretation of a great song.

  • its amazing

  • *.* so wanderful...

  • Very nice

  • That is called chanelling. You are connected to god.

  • @Charrasca I have a feeling he IS God!!!

  • @Charrasca Connected to god? I'm pretty sure he IS god...

  • @Charrasca why would god need connection with himself?

  • @Dragonforce6709 One of the greatest replies ever. Thank you.

  • awesome

  • that was incredible, i didn't think it was possible for someone to do a better job of a Pink Floyd song than the band themselves but your version simply eclipses the original (not that that in any way takes anything away from the original), well done !

  • Awesome player. That is fantastic!!

  • wow..... that was mesmerising!!!! thumbs up if u couldnt keep ur eyes off of his fingers!!! good job :) x

  • Such a spectacular performance. Original and profound feeling. Bittersweet taste is emitted tickling all our senses.. . This is how i personally define music. I definitely agree with KARABINAS said.

  • Oh My God.... I'm speechless! I started shivering when I heard it... So amazing<3

  • MASTER, MASTER MASTER!!!!!

  • Well, im learning to play the piano, but after seen this, i quit. MASTER!

  • @ruamode i agree :(

  • Sheer genius. Love the original, stunned by this new version.

  • A great song with a new perspective. You never cease to amaze, Mr. Rudess! :)

  • No words... :')

  • if you're here watching this obviously you and this guy have the same personal taste in music, so what you hating for? Dude, there is no room for hatred when it comes to the floyd. So shut the fuck up, and enjoy real music, cus this shit is going extinct. BTW great job, really loved this cover

  • Gênio.

  • It sure seems hard disliking this man. Good thing that all the Justin Bieber-fans stayed the fuck out.

  • I prefer simpler versions, but your play is amazing. I am quite envy of your talent.

  • Nice, jordan!

  • Jordan, can you play a cover WITHOUT hundreds of notes per bpm? Really,it is NOT necessary, specially in a PF cover. This is only noise. A very good exercise for fingers, but nothing more.

    With respect.

  • @alee82 Its called passion. When someone plays with passion, they set their own tempo. You're preference is slow soulful notes, where as others have a different opinion on what is soulful. If you put them down because you have biased and ignorant opinions, then you sir are the fool.

  • @MattiasOfTheMetal it's called kitsch. I totally agree with alee82

  • @Keybern Then that is your opinion. But you may be ignorant as well.

  • Bravo!

  • godd work

  • Love it when fingers can sing...Nice touch..

  • Love

  • Ohh man... astonishing!! So nice to hear this song on a well played piano version! So much felling on it! I really hope that someday Rudess make a Cover CD of some rock classics!

  • Hi, I am very impressed by the way you play this beaufil song. I also play the piano and would love to try the same. Could you send me sheet music of this version please? I would be very grateful!

    Rita from the Netherlands

    Thanks

  • @ritameshulam :D I hope this is a joke! It would take years to write down the improvised awesomeness of JR! And if someone really would do it, nobody would be able to play it!

  • Hi, I am very impressed by the way you play this beaufil song. I also play the piano and would love to try the same. Could you send me sheet music of this version please? I would be very grateful!

    Rita from the Netherlands

    Thanks

  • I would like to ask you kind sir that you record all your piano videos with this camera. This is how it is meant to be enjoyed. What a difference.

  • Please Jordan, make an a piano solo album!! (2)

  • Just saw this today (November 4th)... my nephew passed away yesterday and he loved Roger Water's. It was just so perfect to have had someone post it on the day that I really needed to hear it. Amazing by the way... I was spellbound! Thank you!

  • @ILoveBoatDrinks I'm really sorry to hear that. Glad to hear the song helped.

  • you've got a cloud on your chin

  • Very very nice...I enjoyed this a lot :)

  • wow

  • please Jordan, make an piano solo album !

  • Very good jordan rudess ı loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Dream Theater is one of my all-time favorite bands, but I really wish Jordan would slow down every once in a while. His work on Scenes From A Memory is essentially untouchable in my mind, but this video is exactly what i don't like about his current playing style.

The melody has been buried under hundreds upon hundreds of superfluous notes. I'd love to hear more of 0:22 - 0:34 and less of the unnecessary scale runs. The man is clearly a virtuoso, but he needs to rediscover his musicality.

  • @Kajaah117 or maybe you just cant follow him and you lost the melody, all the extra notes and scales he uses, are to complement the rest of the instruments, and of course he has to do the vocals too, another thing is that, if you know Pink Floyd, you know that Gilmour usually improvises this solo, so, Jordan did improvise as he usually does, thats another "charm" of cover songs, to "version" them, sometimes music does not reach you the first time, try to get used to the song first.

  • @necroyoli08 Oh, I can follow him. Don't worry, Jordan is still one of my all-time favorite pianist, period. I've listened to all of his solos hundreds of times. It's just that in the last 5-6 years, they've just become too... busy. John Petrucci can shred like nobody's business, but there is a very well-defined and well-articulated core melody to his solos too.

Just listen to the Petrucci/Rudess solos on A Nightmare to Remember compared to The Great Debate. Nobody's perfect; he's close.

  • @Kajaah117 u obviously arent a big of fan as u think. becuz if you listened to "An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess" you'll see some of the potential of two of the most talented musicians that ever lived!

  • @JEDSaje15 I adore "An Evening With...," I'm just saying that even though Jordan is among the most talented pianists in the world, nobody is above criticism. I personally think Petrucci did an amazing job covering the Comfortably Numb solo. He made it his own, but he kept the core of the solo intact. Jordan just missed the mark on this one.

Again, these are just my personal feelings on the matter. Jordan is a true virtuoso and this doesn't lower my opinion of him at all.

  • @Kajaah117 i do have to agree with you on everything is personal opinion, but i dnt think jordan went too far off the beaten path, i still heard the song in my head while he was playing. nd ur mentioning the comfortably numb solo from the queensryche dvd right? cuz i find it so funny how the 2 guitarist could not hold their own against petrucci lol it was epic fail for them lol

  • @JEDSaje15 Haha, I love Queensryche, but the bald guitarist's thumb was just.... awkward to look at as he was bending those last few notes. Especially when contrasted with Petrucci's pitch-perfect technique. =P

I can hear the melody just fine by the way. I've just always felt that just because you're capable of playing more notes, doesn't mean you should. That's the philosophy that Petrucci has inspired me to apply to my guitar playing at least...

  • @Kajaah117 he is discovering his musicality. You just don't agree with it :)

  • @Kajaah117 I totally agree with you. I think somethink he just need to stick with a melody and not add many extra notes. Sometime it sound pretty insane (Scenes from a Memory) is the best exemple, but sometime, it does'nt sound right. Jordan is one of my all time fav keyboard player, but i agree with what your saying.,

  • cool! :D

  • amazing

  • WoW!

  • Wow! This made me fall in love with Hey You all over again, like I did 17 years ago. Thanks man!

  • He did not play the piano, it caresses.

He is not Jordan Rudess, is God

  • cant stop repeatinginginginginging this magic.

  • Had To Hear 1 More

    TIME !

  • amazing! after hearing this and your version of imagine, i think you should make a cover album on piano, i dont care too much for covers i think people should only do there own stuff but you are a very big exception =]

  • Relaxing! Very cool!

  • He plays very well. Not a Pink Floyd fan at all appreciate this very much. Very light touch on the keys
