This is NOT an Arab-Israeli war. It's ok calling Israel a legitimate state, but in whose eyes? The UN might have agreed to it after Palestine was taken in 1948, but the Palestinians never have. They're still fighting that war. The overall point I am trying to make (and Israel's 60 year history proves) is that a military option is only a short term fix, usually resulting in further extreemism and further bloodshed (on both sides). I don't seek to defame Israel, I am merely pointing out the facts - Israel has been indited by the UN for the innocent slaughter of women and children. Please post a Link to the cluster bomb article(s) and I'll take a look. I suspect propaganda since Hamas fighters are blending in with civilians. Cluster bombs would be a good choice at training camps and other places where Hamas fighters are grouped together, and exposed, in high concentrations. I don't believe such targets are being presented at this time.

And for my last gripe. There's no control to the arms Israel can obtain even though they've broken more UN resolutions than any state at least in the last 60 years. If Palestinians where allowed to buy weapons like Israel can, then the results would be devasting. Therefore why only pick on one side. Why doesn't the world limit arms to both sides and force them to negotiate? I know the answer and I don't like it, but that's the corrupt world in which we live. Time for a revolution in world power!

It's ok calling Israel a legitimate state, but in whose eyes? The UN might have agreed to it after Palestine was taken in 1948, but the Palestinians never have. They're still fighting that war. While Israel is pertaining to be the good guy and labeling any palestinian fighters as terrorists there'll never be peace. Israel needs to show leadership, negotiate, create a 2 state solution and pull back to the land of 1947 plan. I'm sure this would create a solution or am I too much of an idealist?

This conflict has very complex issues that's for sure, but I do keep reading quite a bit of comment that seems a bit skewed, so this is my perspective.
The Zionists formed terrorists groups, one of them known as the Haganah morphed into the IDF. Unfortunately, the activities in the 1940's seem to have a set a standard for the IDF. They carry out the same disregard for civilian life as the Haganah did. The only difference is they can now afford proper kit to fight with.

The overall point I am trying to make (and Israel's 60 year history proves) is that a military option is only a short term fix, usually resulting in further extreemism and further bloodshed (on both sides). As you righly recognise, this bloodletting degrades the moral fabric of Israel. The only solution is dialogue coupled with a fair and just two state solution. That cannot be achieved with further illegal settlement on the west bank, nor the blockade of Gaza.

The IDF fires on Hamas mortars and missile launching platforms when those are being fired, or being prepared to be fired, on Israel. The IDF is duty bound to protect its own citizens from these Hamas barrages BY PREVENTING SUCH BARRAGES HOWEVER THE IDF POSSIBLY CAN. If Palestinians die from such IDF defensive fire, that is indeed unfortunate and tragic. But it is far better than permitting the Hamas rockets and mortars from taking Israeli life.

I cannot predict what the final negotiations between Syria and Israel will determine as to what, if any, portion of the Golan Heights will be permanently annexed by Israel. President Assad is awaiting the presidency of Obama, as sponsor of and as a precondition to, direct negotiations between Syria and Israel regarding a permanent peace treaty.

Hamas was caught attempting to tunnel into Israel, following the example set by Hezbollah in 2006, for the purpose of killing and kidnapping Israeli soldiers. The tunnel was bombed by the IDF, killing Hamas members still inside of it. Hamas responded by vastly increasing the number of rockets it was firing into Israel. Israel refrained from a counterattack until Hamas made it absolutely clear that Hamas would not renew the ceasefire EVEN AS EGYPT DESPARATELY PLED FOR HAMAS TO HOLD THEIR FIRE.

All you have to do is look at maps between 1947 and today to see that they've been slowly claiming more land. It isn't rocket science.
Not to mention- Israel helped create Hamas as a foil for Fatah. Israel then forces the people of Gaza to live in poverty in horrific conditions. It doesn't matter who governs Gaza- Israel will refuse to acknowledge them regardless, because THEY WANT THE LAND.

Cluster bombs would be a good choice at training camps and other places where Hamas fighters are grouped together, and exposed, in high concentrations. I don't believe such targets are being presented at this time.
